Weekly Tarotcast™: 2-23-16 through 3-01-16
The weekly Tarotcast card is the Moon. Lots of people find this card spooky and it can be, to the extent that it invites and draws us deep into the world of the unconscious, sleep, and dreams – or nightmares.
We are challenged this week to overcome fear, the “dark night of the soul” that this card eerily represents. If we are willing to make our journey with courage – we can use the symbols and images of our dream-state to master the waking world. Emotion and intuition run strong this week. Things are not necessarily what they appear to be – but again, the challenge – both practical and spiritual – is to acknowledge our fear and move forward. Repression or denial creates a nightmare landscape; acknowledgement and acceptance bring the mysterious and unknown to light.
On the kabalistic Tree of Life, this card travels path 29, joining sephiroth or sphere 7, Netzach (meaning Victory, the sphere of Venus and the masculinized Yin) with sephiroth or sphere 10, Malkuth (meaning Kingdom, and representing our material, physical world). Its Hebrew letter is Qoph, which means the back of the head. Interestingly, in our physical brain anatomy, the back of the head is where the occipital lobes are located. They are responsible for our visual perception systems. Disorders of or diseases affecting the occipital lobe can cause visual hallucinations and illusions. This is perfectly in keeping with the nature of the Moon and its elusive – and sometimes deceptive – energy.
Astrologically, this card is the zodiacal trump of Pisces where Jupiter and Neptune rule and Venus is exalted.
In real-time astrology, the Sun is currently in Water sign Pisces (until March 20th) and Jupiter opposes Chiron on February 23rd. We may be searching for meaning and understanding, but challenged to find a philosophy or belief system that truly reflects our essential selves. It’s easy to be led astray by beliefs and ideas now, or to experience a crisis of faith. Others might not understand our opinions, visions, or plans, resulting in feelings of loneliness and isolation. During this forecast period, we need to look within for answers and intuit our own true needs and beliefs. It’s best to avoid blindly following something or someone without knowing what serves our highest good.
Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes succumbing to fear, hysteria, or paranoia – or indulging in drugs or alcohol to escape reality – and any or all of these can only worsen matters and trap us in a hall of mirrors.
Let’s focus on trusting to our intuitive knowledge and understanding, which will bring great rewards this week. By connecting our dreaming and dreamlike intuition to our waking consciousness, we can turn dreams – rather than nightmares – into reality.
A little home alchemy: Power colors this week include crimson, silver, black and silver-flecked white as well as violet and pale blue-green.
Emeralds, amethyst, aquamarine and sapphire worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will bring courage and much-need illumination.
Tin is this week’s metal – not great for wearing, but a good reminder in this way: tin is used to coat other metals to prevent corrosion. We can likewise use our waking consciousness to protect and channel the powerful energy of our intuition toward constructive purposes.
Scent your home, bath and body with heliotrope, carnation, opium and belladonna to stay tuned into and focused on the light in the darkness.
Foods prepared with the friendlier members of the nightshade family – tomatoes and peppers; as well as foods made with poppy seeds, lotus root, and coconut as well as tea brewed from jasmine or wintergreen will provide the same beneficial effects.
