Weekly Tarotcast™: 12-26-17 through 1-02-18
The weekly Tarotcast card is the Magus – also called the Magician, and in some very old decks, the Juggler. We’re invited to become the conscious creators of our reality this week. Through our imaginations and our ability to think and visualize, we translate ideas into action. Self-confidence and a sense of personal power are ours to enjoy!
On the kabalistic Tree of Life, the Magician travels path 12, joining sephiroth or sphere 1, Kether (the Crown); to sephiroth or sphere 3, Binah (Understanding). Our conscious connection to the divine coupled with knowing the way things work manifests in the real world as solid, material results. The Hebrew letter assigned to this card is Beth, which means “house” and that encompasses the concepts of both our personal home and household as well as the House of God – the temple.
Astrologically, this card is the planetary trump of Mercury, the planet of mental agility and quickness. Like many of the old gods, Mercury is a bit of a contradiction. Known as Hermes to the Greeks, he is a trickster and even a deceiver. But to both the Greeks and the Romans, he also embodies creativity, new beginnings – and in his role as the messenger of the Gods, news and communication of all kinds. In our 21st century world – this especially means electronic communication and the internet – so watch your e-mail and make sure you keep your cell phone charged and handy.
In real-time astrology, Mercury stationed direct on December 22nd in Fire-sign Sagittarius just prior to this forecast period. We’ll experience a Full Moon in Gemini’s next-door-neighbor, Water-sign Cancer on January 1st. This Full Moon is in opposition to the Sun in Earth-sign Capricorn. These signs share some similarities – both like to feel safe and secure. Both are cardinal signs and tend to stick to traditional, tried-and-true paths. This combination integrates masculine and feminine energies. Their polarity benefits us most when drawing from each other’s complementary gifts. Too much Cancer and we worry and fret as victims of anxiety; too much Capricorn and we are too rigid, unyielding and closed.
Full moon energy can be very intense – with the right balance we can create using Capricorn’s strengths in conjunction with that of this week’s card – from a positive perspective. Drawing from Cancer’s strengths, we’ll remain sensitive to the feelings and needs of others. Lastly, Uranus stations direct in Fire-sign Aries on January 2nd.
Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes abuse or misuse of power, aggression, egotistical and selfish manipulation, dishonesty and deceit.
Let’s focus on the positive aspects this week – assertiveness, bold action, clear and timely communication, beneficial activities and positive channels for our vital energy.
A little home alchemy: Power colors this week include yellow, purple, grey, indigo and violet.
Diamond, jade, jasper, topaz, aquamarine and iron pyrite worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will enhance our thinking and communicating abilities this week.
Mercury is this week’s metal. It’s not wearable but it’s a good reminder to us that being flexible and adaptable still requires us to stay honest and act with integrity.
Scent your home, bath and body with snapdragon, iris, rosemary, cornflower, valerian, lavender, lilac, and vervain to keep your physical stamina and energy at peak performance.
Foods prepared with parsley, dill, rosemary, lavender, lemongrass, mace and peppermint as well tea brewed from ginseng or peppermint will provide the same beneficial effects.
