Weekly Tarotcast™: 8-02-16 through 8-09-16
The weekly Tarotcast card is the Emperor. This card represents order in our lives as well as authority figures. Our fathers, bosses, and more generally the police, court systems and the government all come under the strongly masculine (Yang) energy of this card. This is a great week for getting organized! Even the small ways we use logic and left-brain thinking, and the small things we do to create a structured framework pay off big in the coming week.
On the kabalistic Tree of Life this card travels Path 28, joining sephiroth or sphere 7, Netzach (meaning Victory, imbalance in the form of the Masculinized female) to sephiroth or sphere 9, Yesod (meaning Foundation, the sphere of Luna, the crystallization of energy). Its Hebrew letter is Tzaddi, meaning “fish hook”. This is the first letter in the word tzaddig, or “righteous man,” so tzaddi stands for both righteousness and humility. And the only other thing I will say about this letter in relation to this card is that Mr. Crowley swapped it for the Hebrew letter attribution of the 17th Major Arcana card, The Star. He had his reasons – to agree or disagree with them I will leave entirely up to you.
Astrologically, this card is the zodiacal trump of Aries, in which Mars rules and the Sun is exalted. This energy gives us plenty of opportunities to show our leadership skills.
In real-time astrology, the Sun is currently in Aries’ fellow Fire-sign, Leo. On the first day of this forecast period, we’ll also experience a New Moon in Leo. Also on August 2nd, Mars enters Sagittarius (through September 27th); so along with this week’s card, the zodiacal modalities of the Fire signs – cardinal, fixed and mutable – are fully represented.
The New Moon in Leo awakens a sense of fun and child-like wonder into our lives. This can certainly lighten up some of the heavier aspects of this week’s card, hopefully in positive directions.
Mars in Sagittarius can prompt verbal attacks with some hard and harsh words –anger can also combine with dishonesty to do some real damage. Be forewarned. On the plus side, this can be a great time to save money or invest effort into education and/or travel. We may seek actual geographical journeys as well as internal ones to discover or reconnect with our personal truths and spiritual beliefs. We may feel a need to fight for our rights or beliefs – make sure you know what you’re truly fighting for, and pick your battles wisely.
Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes domineering, authoritarian actions, rigid thinking and over-planning. Other things to avoid are irrational, impulsive actions, hyper-sexuality and aggressive behaviors.
Let’s focus on successfully navigating this strong energy by using the best of it without going overboard. We can exercise personal responsibility and be good grown-ups.
A little home alchemy: Power colors this week include scarlet, warm gold tones and any bright, vivid shade of red.
Ruby, bloodstone, diamond, garnet, black onyx and clear quartz crystal worn as jewelry, or carried as power stones will balance the light-and-dark energies of authority and leadership as well as the fires of ambition and determination.
Iron is this week’s metal. Although not wearable, it is a symbol of endurance and strength – but also stubbornness, so take care.
Scent your home, bath and body with eucalyptus, thistle, wild rose, woodbine, pine and tobacco (the scent, no need to smoke anything) for both calming the nerves yet stimulating the mind and body in a positive, focused way.
Foods prepared with allspice, cayenne, garlic, ginger and pepper will give a fiery kick to your recipes this week (just remember fire is a great servant but a dangerous master); also artichokes and sunflower (seeds or oil) will provide the same beneficial effects.
