Weekly Tarotcast™: 3-12-19 through 3-19-19
The Hermit tarot card is this week’s Tarotcast. This card shows us that taking a solitary path will aid us in our search for truth. Solitude and being alone don’t have to mean feeling lonely. But, we may find that we seek and very much enjoy our own company this week. Probing our own inner consciousness and exploring our psyches will appeal to us. We find the solutions to long-standing problems through the insights we gain and the discoveries we make. We’ll have the seeds to sow for a crop of new ideas and fresh directions.
We’ll likely withdraw from current events and from our relationships and surroundings. This is not due to depression or disinterest, but the energy this week calls us to look within. Reflection and introspection will supply the tools that allow us to emerge refreshed, renewed and ready for action again.
On the Tree of Life this card travels path 20. It joins sephiroth or sphere 4, Chesed (Mercy – sphere of Jupiter and the rule of law) to sephiroth or sphere 6, Tiphareth (Beauty – sphere of the Sun; energy in complete and balanced manifestation). Its Hebrew letter is Yod, meaning the hand. It is with our hands that we sow seeds. They lie hidden in the ground during the early stages of their development and growth. Then they sprout. It is also with our hands that we cultivate our gardens – and harvest their bounty.
This card is the zodiacal trump of Virgo, in which Mercury both rules and is exalted. The way in which Mercury, the Earth and Sun come together in this card creates the special magic of growing things. The seed placed into the soil undergoes a transformation. It bursts forth into the sunlight to be further nurtured and grow to maturity. Here Mercury (Hermes to the Greeks) shows us his versatility. He is more than a messenger and trickster. He also acts as a guide for the dead crossing over. He is an interpreter and a transformer. He is the patron of geographical (and metaphorical) boundaries and the travelers who navigate them.
In real-time astrology, the Sun is transiting Water-sign Pisces, Virgo’s polar opposite on the wheel of the zodiac. Mercury continues its retrograde in Pisces (through March 28th). All of the usual retrograde warnings apply. During this forecast period, careful communication and allowing extra travel time will keep frustration to a minimum. When in doubt, hold your peace instead of speaking it.
Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes rigid thinking and hard attitudes. Bitterness and hostility toward the outside world – even narcissism.
Let’s focus on the qualities of emotional maturity, wisdom and enlightenment.
Power colors: yellowish green, slate grey, grey-green and plum.
Power music: this is a great week to listen to Revolution 9 from the Beatles’ White Album. For classical, Beethoven’s Ninth symphony or Gregorian chants. This is Major Arcana card number 9 – the number which always comes back to itself.
Power stones: onyx, clear crystal and diamonds. Wear as jewelry or carry as power stones. They will make your alone-time or me-time productive, meaningful and informative.
Power metals: gold and platinum. Pricey yes, but wear ‘em if you’ve got ‘em, because they perfectly symbolize the light that is born from darkness.
Power fragrances: scent your home, bath and body with lily, valerian, lavender, lilac, and frankincense. These will awaken the introspective and transformative powers of the Hermit.
Power foods: foods prepared with parsley, dill, rosemary, lavender, lemongrass and mace. Tea brewed from peppermint; as well as beverages containing juniper (gin!) and wormwood (absinthe!) – in moderation, please! All will enhance the benefits described.
