The Hermit: Weekly Tarotcast™ – Free Tarot Reading
3-24-20 through 3-31-20
This week’s Tarotcast card is The Hermit. As always, I drew this week’s Tarotcast card at random. Since the state I live in issued a stay-at-home order that went into effect this past Saturday, The Hermit turned out to be the perfect card for this week.
The Hermit card shows us that taking a solitary path will aid us in our search for truth. Solitude and being alone don’t have to mean feeling lonely. But we may find that we seek and very much enjoy our own company this week. Probing our own inner consciousness and exploring our psyches will appeal to us. We find the solutions to our problems through the insights we gain and the discoveries we make. We’ll have the seeds to sow for a crop of new ideas and fresh directions.
With the concerns over COVID-19, The Hermit card reflects current events. The same events we will likely withdraw from this week. We are in retreat from our relationships and surroundings. This is not due to depression or disinterest, but the energy this week calls us to look within. Through reflection and introspection, we emerge refreshed, renewed and ready for action again.
On the Tree of Life, The Hermit travels path 20. It joins sephiroth or sphere 4, Chesed (Mercy), sphere of Jupiter and the rule of law; to sephiroth or sphere 6, Tiphareth (Beauty). Sphere of the Sun; energy in complete and balanced manifestation. Its Hebrew letter is Yod, meaning the hand. It is with our hands that we sow seeds. They lie hidden in the ground during the early stages of their development and growth. Then they sprout. It is also with our hands that we cultivate our gardens – and harvest their bounty.
The Hermit is the zodiacal trump of Virgo, in which Mercury both rules and is exalted. Mercury, the Earth and Sun come together in this card to create the special magic of growing things. The seed placed into the soil undergoes a transformation. It bursts forth into the sunlight to be further nurtured and grow to maturity. Here Mercury (Hermes to the Greeks) shows us his versatility. He is more than a messenger and trickster. He also acts as a guide for the dead crossing over. He is an interpreter and a transformer. He is the patron of boundaries; also, the travelers who navigate them. This applies to both geographical and metaphorical boundaries.
In real-time astrology, the Sun is transiting Fire-sign Aries. Mars’ and Aries’ energy are not the best match to the energy of this week’s card. They are outward-directed and action-oriented. Use this energy to fuel your plans while you’re in contemplation.
New Moon in Aries on March 24th: this lunation promises a fresh start. We’re ready to act without fear on our pure and innocent impulses. The time for over-thinking or worrying about what others think is over. Self-reliance gives us integrity, confidence and an aura of strength. Combined with the energy of The Hermit card, we may experience a pause or delay before going forward.
Mercury is still transiting Water-sign Pisces, Aries’ next-door neighbor in the Zodiac. Mercury in Pisces brings gentle and compassionate communication. When necessary, keep communication honest and direct. Intuition is strong during this transit. Avoid the tendency toward vagueness or moodiness.
Take time to dream and imagine – but don’t let these states take you into La-La Land.
On March 30th, Mars enters Air-sign Aquarius. Independence and innovative, creative thought highlight this transit. Avoid obstinance. Enjoy intellectual pursuits. Find the method in your own “madness”. Respect others’ freedom as much as your own. The combination of intelligence and a strong will can lead to domination of others to get our own way. Be forewarned. Go with the basic energy of this transit – live and let live.
Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of The Hermit card includes rigid thinking. Hard attitudes. Inflexibility. Bitterness and hostility toward the outside world – even narcissism.
Let’s focus on the qualities of emotional maturity, wisdom and enlightenment.
Power colors: yellowish green, slate grey, grey-green and plum.
Power music: this is a great week to listen to Revolution 9 from the Beatles’ White Album. For classical, Beethoven’s Ninth symphony or Gregorian chants. This is Major Arcana card number 9 – the number which always comes back to itself.
Power stones: onyx, clear crystal and diamonds. Wear as jewelry or carry as power stones. They will make your alone-time or me-time productive, meaningful and instructive.
Power metals: gold and platinum. Pricey yes, but wear ‘em if you’ve got ‘em, because they symbolize the light that is born from darkness.
Power fragrances: lily, valerian, lavender, lilac, and frankincense. These will awaken the introspective and transformative powers of the Hermit.
Power foods: foods prepared with parsley, dill, rosemary, lavender, lemongrass and mace. Tea brewed from peppermint; as well as beverages containing juniper (gin!) and wormwood (absinthe!) – in moderation, please! All provide the same beneficial effects already described.
