Ten of Swords: Weekly Tarotcast™ – Free Tarot Reading

8-24-21 through 8-31-21

Ten of Swords

The Ten of Swords is this week’s Tarotcast card. No trips to Happyland this week, folks. The energy here can’t degenerate any further. In the Minor Arcana, the energy of the Tens transforms the energy of the current suit into that of the next suit. In this case, the next suit is Disks.

Here, Swords represent the mind and the intellect. That’s another way of saying the Ego. Since they are in the final process of destruction, all I can say is “ouch.” There is a positive side to this. Yes, the Ego-self experiences great pain. But our true Self comes through the process more integrated and better on the other side.

The Elements

In the Ten of Swords, the element of Air is all disruption and disorder. Mental and intellectual energy are reason devoid of reality.

The Number 10

The Tens of the Minor Arcana represent completion. They are the manifestation and culmination of energy. This completion gives way to new beginnings.

Kabbalah

On the Tree of Life, the Ten of Swords represents the formula 10. Sephiroth or sphere 10, Malkuth (Kingdom) the sphere of the Earth and the material world. In the suit of Swords, the element of Air. This is the realm of our thoughts and mental faculties; Ruach – the intellectual world. Plus, the Sun in Gemini equaling Ruin.

Astrology

The Ten of Swords symbolizes the Sun in Gemini. It rules from 20 to 30 degrees Gemini, or June 11th through June 20th. So, if your birthday falls on or between those dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. The Sun in Gemini is the complete identification of the Ego-Self with the mind. Devoid of all but the intellect, this is a recipe for self-destruction.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is transiting Earth-sign Virgo. Organized, practical energy can ease some of the tensions this week. On the positive side, Virgo – or our pure, virgin Self can come through the destruction better than before. Avoid some of the negatives of Virgo – criticism and harsh judgement. Also, taking attention to detail to extremes – nit-picking and irrelevancy.

“I hear hurricanes a-blowing, I know the end is coming soon – I fear rivers overflowing – I hear the voice of rage and ruin…”

On August 30th Mercury enters Air-sign Libra. This transit can also help counteract the negatives of this week’s card. We’re diplomatic and take other’s points of view into consideration. We look for win-win solutions.

“Guess I’ll see you dancin’ in the ruins tonight! Dancin’ in the ruins!”

On the same day, we have the Last Quarter Moon in Air-sign Gemini. This phase corresponds to “letting go.” Release toxic and destructive people and situations. Go within and find answers through meditation, not analysis.

Shadow

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes extreme violence. This is intellectual but includes emotional and even physical manifestation. Catastrophes of all kinds.

Light

Let’s focus on what is positive in this card. Abandon and separate from the toxic; or anything that no longer serves our highest good. This is the way of liberation.

Alchemy

Power colors: olive, russet, yellow, orange and amber, along with gold.

Power metals: mercury and gold. Mercury serves as a symbol of change and adaptability. Gold reminds us of the Sun’s power – to burn and scorch, but also to bring life-giving heat and energy.

Power stones: diamond, ruby, jade, topaz, amber and agate. Wear these as jewelry or carry them as power stones. They remind us that much like a trip to the dentist, the anticipation of pain is often worse than the pain itself. And we usually feel much better once it’s over.

Power fragrances: marigold, heliotrope, juniper, orange, acacia, cedar, cinnamon, clove, and frankincense. These invoke powerful “solar” energy this week. Use discretion in wielding that energy.

Power foods: foods prepared with sunflower seeds and oranges. Season with galangal, cinnamon, clove, parsley and dill. Beverages made with hops (beer) or juniper (gin). Trust me, this week some alcohol (in moderation) – may serve medicinal purposes. All provide the same beneficial effects already described.
