Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Seven of Cups

Weekly Tarotcast™: 9-11-18 through 9-18-18

Seven of Cups

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Seven of Cups. This card represents imagination, fantasy and daydreaming, but mostly in their challenging or negative aspects. Sometimes floating around with the idea that every option is “open” means we choose not to act at all, and we stay in a state of indecision and confusion. It’s hard to see the forest for the trees with the Seven of Cups. We’re easily seduced (sexually or otherwise) and just as easily disappointed and disillusioned.

The Sevens of the Minor Arcana illuminate the motives for manifestation for their respective suits and elements. Balance gives way to questioning and exploration as well as the disruption which naturally arises from the search for the underlying causes of action. The sevens dissolve and deconstruct.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, this card represents the formula 7: sephiroth or sphere 7, Netzach (meaning Victory, sphere of Venus) in the suit of Cups (Briah, the creative world; the element of Water and the emotions) plus Venus in Scorpio (more on that in a moment) equaling Debauch.

The erroneous idea that more of anything is always better, and the consequences of acting as if that were true couldn’t be better illustrated than by this week’s card. That first cocktail is fun, the second probably is too, by the third (or the fourth for some of us) we’re getting sloppy and by the fifth – well, we may be dashing to the bathroom for some private time with the porcelain god – soooo not sexy.

Astrologically, this card corresponds to Venus in Scorpio and rules from 20 to 30 degrees Scorpio, or November 13th through November 22nd so if your birthday falls on or between those dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. Venus in Scorpio is not at her best – the Goddess of Love and Beauty can be a bit self-indulgent and reckless in this sign.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is transiting Earth-sign Virgo (through September 22nd). As sometimes happens, this week’s card perfectly matches the current astrological climate, with Venus having entered Water-sign Scorpio on September 9th (through October 31st). All of the energy – both positive and negative – will be magnified, so choose well. Venus will remain in Scorpio longer than usual due to its upcoming retrograde (October 5th).
Jupiter is sextile Pluto on September 12th. This is the last of three perfections while Jupiter is in Scorpio; the previous two occurred in January and April 2018. This transit favors both business and law, and powerfully sparks our ambitions. We are highly motivated to pursue personal or professional goals. We are persuasive and able to positively influence our environment and the people in it.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes delusion, delirium, and sinking into a swamp of false or illusionary pleasure. Extra care should be taken this week with intoxicants (of all kinds) and we should remind ourselves that escaping our troubles by building castles in the air rarely gets us closer to our goals. There is certainly a place for constructive daydreaming, imagining and visualizing, but this week, there are many more chances for pitfalls and errors than there are genuine opportunities.

Let’s focus on exercising good judgment. We can temporarily narrow our focus to one plan or situation and then we can stay on top of separating reality from illusion. Careful consideration may show us that a particular choice isn’t viable, and we can then move on and realign with a more practical plan of action.

A little home alchemy: Power colors this week include emerald, sky blue, bluish-green tones, and rose pink along with very dark brown.

Topaz, ruby and jet (for Scorpio), as well as emerald, opal, jade, lapis and sapphire for Venus worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will help us stay grounded and keep us from over-indulging in too much of a good thing – or anything – this week.

Iron, plutonium and copper are this week’s metals. Only copper is really wearable – but it easily tarnishes. Despite its reported medicinal properties, that turning/tarnishing should serve as a good reminder of Venus’ tendency toward the weaknesses of the flesh and the senses.

Scent your home, bath and body with purple heather, violet, wild rose, apple, bergamot, hibiscus, magnolia, plumeria, strawberry, vanilla or vervain to clear the emotional, mental and spiritual dust-bunnies and cobwebs out of the corners.

Foods prepared with sweet basil, apple, strawberry and vanilla as well as tea brewed from hibiscus or rose hips – provided you don’t gorge on or swill any of them – will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Two of Cups

Weekly Tarotcast™: 9-04-18 through 9-11-18

Two of Cups

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Two of Cups. In many instances it indicates romantic love, marriage and partnerships even more than the Major Arcana card, the Lovers. It can indicate a friendship that develops into a romantic relationship; an engagement or marriage, and can also include the pleasure of enjoying the company of our good friends and family.

The Twos of the Minor Arcana are the balanced but polarized states of their respective suit and element. The twos are duality, and this is our way of seeing and being in the world in order to understand it; weighing and balancing things against their opposites – good vs. bad, dark vs. light, positive vs. negative. Until we differentiate, we can’t resolve and unify.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, this card represents the formula 2: sephiroth or sphere 2, Chokmah (meaning Wisdom, sphere of the Zodiac and the Divine Masculine or Yang energy) in the suit of Cups (Briah, the creative world; the element of Water – our feelings and emotions) plus Venus in Cancer (more on that in a moment) equaling Love.

Astrologically, this card is ruled by Venus in Cancer and rules from 0 to 10 degrees Cancer, or June 21st to July 1st so if your birthday falls on or between these dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. This card depicts the element of water in its best and highest form. Harmony between male and female energies (Yin and Yang), joy and pleasure are all contained in this beautiful vibration. Use this gentle, positive energy to open your heart and connect with the people you love.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is in Earth-sign Virgo, soon to be joined by Mercury on September 5th. Also during this forecast period we’ll experience a New Moon in Virgo on September 9th. Saturn turns direct in Earth-sign Capricorn on September 6th. Capricorn is Cancer’s polar opposite sign on the wheel of the Zodiac. The direct motion of Capricorn’s ruling planet eases some pressure and allows for steady but significant progress for all of us, but is especially helpful in balancing the complementary energy of Cancer.

Venus enters Cancer’s fellow-Water sign Scorpio on September 9th. In combination with the energy of this week’s card, love becomes intense, passionate and committed during this forecast period. There is real opportunity for a healing and transformational bonding experience in relationships.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes disillusionment, separation, and loving energy disrupted or resisted through fear or rejection.

Let’s focus on enjoying the positive aspects by spending time with people we genuinely like, and let attractions blossom with people we hope to get to know and like even better.

It’s a great week to flirt, begin dating, or even fall in love – or to develop an existing relationship and see it move forward in a positive direction.

A little home alchemy: Power colors this week include pearl gray, emerald green, sky blue and pale pink for Venus, amber, maroon and russet for Cancer.

Emerald, opal, jade, sapphire and lapis worn as jewelry, or carried as power stones will awaken feelings of love and attraction.

Silver (for Cancer) and copper (for Venus) are this week’s metals. I’d opt for the silver of course, but choose whichever makes you happiest, alternate or even combine them.

Scent your home, bath and body with poppy, white rose, violet, wild rose, bergamot, geranium, hibiscus, and plumeria to create a sensuous, relaxed mood. These will work wonders whether you’re deepening an existing relationship or if you’re hoping to attract love into your life – so this week, use them to help you draw in what (and who) will make you truly happy.

This week’s array of flowers, fruits and vegetables offers us ingredients for tasty meals to share with those we love. Cancer rules the stomach and Venus the heart – so this week the way to our loved one’s heart definitely is through their stomach! Along with this week’s scents, foods prepared with apples, watercress, strawberries, poppy seeds and vanilla as well as teas brewed from hibiscus and bergamot will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Death

Weekly Tarotcast™: 8-28-18 through 9-04-18

Death

The weekly Tarotcast card is Death. Although most people don’t enjoy seeing this card come up in a reading, impending physical death is rarely the message this card delivers. The Death card tells us that things are about to change in a big way. In the cycle or circle of life, Death is a necessary stage in bringing about the constant renewal of life.  T

Transformation is the mode by which energy continues on, taking many forms – or even no discernible form – but never truly dying.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, this card travels path 24, joining sephiroth or sphere 6, Tiphareth (meaning Beauty) with sephiroth or sphere 7, Netzach, (meaning Victory). Its Hebrew letter is Nun, which in one form means “fish”. The fish is a symbol of activity and life. The fish is also one of the foremost symbols in Christianity, representing life, death, and resurrection. In another form, Nun means “sprouting seed” representing life beginning anew.

Astrologically this card is the zodiacal trump of Scorpio in which Mars rules and Pluto is exalted. The sign of Scorpio manifests in three images and aspects – the lowest is the scorpion, the middle is the serpent (or lizard), and the highest is the eagle (or phoenix).

In real-time astrology, Sun is in Earth-sign Virgo (through September 22nd). Mars is now direct in Virgo’s fellow Earth-sign Capricorn (through September 10th). We should experience a slow but steady increase in our confidence. Our ability to assert ourselves in a constructive manner is growing, and we can positively influence our environment to create meaningful changes.

On September 3rd Jupiter in Scorpio will semi-square Saturn retrograde in Capricorn. In combination with the energy of this week’s card, we may experience financial issues around debt and will need to exercise caution with our investments. This is a good time to plan paying down or paying off loans.

When Saturn turns direct in Capricorn on September 6th we will finally get some clarity in our work and career. Stalled projects move forward. This energy is aided by Mars stationing direct on August 27th, just prior to this forecast period. Though still in its shadow phase, both the motivation and the effort needed to make progress are gaining momentum.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes resistance to change, fear, ignorance or misunderstanding of the regeneration cycle.

Let’s focus on inner wisdom, consistency, and making room for the new while we clear away the old.

A little home alchemy: Power colors this week include indigo, blue-green and dark brown.
Topaz, onyx, nephrite and malachite worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will help us let go of whatever we need to release gracefully and joyfully.

Iron is this week’s metal – not great for wearing, but a good reminder of strength and endurance.

Scent your home, bath and body with patchouli, vanilla, pomegranate and heather to clear your energy and open yourself to embracing positive changes.

Foods prepared with ginseng, dill, saffron, pomegranate and vanilla will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Two of Wands

Weekly Tarotcast™: 8-21-18 through 8-28-18

Two of Wands

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Two of Wands. This card indicates dynamic energy and the stresses and tensions – as well as the benefits – which come from it. In partnerships and collaborations, there can be friction and even conflict as each person attempts to make their point and share their ideas and feelings. If well-managed, tremendous creative energy is unleashed and can be channeled into constructive and productive projects.

The Twos of the Minor Arcana are the balanced but polarized states of their respective suit and element. The twos are duality, and this is our way of seeing and being in the world in order to understand it; weighing and balancing things against their opposites. Good vs. bad, dark vs. light, positive vs. negative. Until we differentiate, we can’t resolve and unify.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life this card represents the Formula 2: sephiroth or sphere 2, Chokmah (meaning Wisdom, sphere of the Zodiac and divine Masculine energy, Yang) in the suit of Wands (Atziluth, the archetypal world; the element of Fire – our will) plus Mars in Aries (more on that in a moment), equaling Dominion.

Astrologically, this card represents Mars in Aries, and rules from 0 to 10 degrees Aries, or March 21st through March 30th, so if your birthday falls on or between these dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. Mars is the planet of physical energy and is Aries’ ruling planet. It embodies assertiveness and the courage to take action.

In real-time astrology, Mercury is now direct in Aries’ fellow Fire-sign Leo (through September 5th). Communication, travel and progress should all begin to improve as we move through the shadow period and forward momentum once again begins to build. The Sun enters Earth-sign Virgo on August 23rd. Combined with the energy of this forecast period, we are practical and quite able to make the most of our resources. We are generally productive, good collaborators and contributors to group efforts, and we may find it easier to get and stay organized. The Sun forms a grand trine with Saturn and Uranus on August 25th which helps us stay grounded and balanced through the changes occurring around us.

Jupiter is sesquiquadrate (a form of astrological square) Chiron in Aries on August 25th. Chiron is an asteroid called “the wounded healer”. In Aries, this energy gives us the opportunity to resolve identity and ego issues. Combined with the energy of this week’s card, extra caution is advised. Healing oneself need not damage or diminish others.

When Mars turns direct August 27th, we should experience a slow but steady increase in our confidence. Our ability to assert ourselves in a positive, constructive manner is growing, as is our ability to influence our environment and create meaningful changes.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes energy unleashed wildly, egotism and violence, oppression and destruction, domination rather than dominion. When ill-dignified, this energy doesn’t work or play well with others.

Let’s focus on our creative impulses and the courage to take positive and assertive (rather than aggressive) action this week.

A little home alchemy: Power colors for this week include scarlet, fiery red, azure blue and deep emerald green.

Ruby, bloodstone, diamond and garnet worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will remind us to avoid negativity and aggression.

Iron is this week metal – not really wearable, but a reminder that genuine strength can be exercised gently – we can choose to make tools, not weapons.

Scent your home, bath and body with wild rose, pine, tobacco, and woodbine to reinforce positive energies and generate some creative heat.

Foods prepared with allspice, cayenne, garlic, ginger and pepper will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Six of Swords

Weekly Tarotcast™: 8-14-18 through 8-21-18

Six of Swords

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Six of Swords. This week finds us moving along on our journey, literally or figuratively, through a gateway to new solutions for our problems. Physically, spiritually or emotionally, we are distancing ourselves from the past. Since Swords represent the intellect and mental processes, we are clear-headed and our ability to focus and concentrate is excellent. Intense curiosity and analytical thinking are also signified by this card.

The sixes of the Minor Arcana restore harmony, balance and the energy of success to their respective suits and elements. After the disruption caused by the fives, the sixes bring affirmation, confirmation, validation and solidification. In the Six of Swords, the Air element acts as the force of creative intelligence.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, this card represents the formula 6: sephiroth or sphere 6, Tiphareth (meaning Beauty, sphere of the Sun, where energy manifests in a completely balanced way), in the suit of Swords (Yetzirah, the formative world; the element of Air and our mental and intellectual processes) plus Mercury in Aquarius (more on that in a moment) equaling Science.

Astrologically, this card corresponds to Mercury in Aquarius and rules from 10 to 20 degrees Aquarius, or January 30th to February 8th, so if your birthday falls on or between those dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. Intellectual balance is perfectly at home here. Through the application of right thinking and right action, we’ve earned – or are earning – our success.

In real-time astrology, Mercury remains retrograde in Fire-sign Leo (through August 19th). Leo is Aquarius’ polar opposite on the wheel of the Zodiac. This energy complements that of this forecast period. Part of our ability to balance ourselves and find creative solutions to our problems may come from a fresh perspective on old issues or projects.

Mars continues its retrograde transit until August 27th, having revisited both Aquarius and Capricorn. Normally assertive, action-oriented and outwardly directed, Mars energy has been turned inward. Exercise caution and avoid passive-aggressive behavior. Our efforts – physical and mental – seems sluggish and stagnant. Reviewing, reworking and restructuring plans and projects is a much more productive use of this energy and is in harmony with that of this week’s card.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes skepticism, mistrust, prejudicial or overly-critical and judgmental thinking.

Let’s focus on our search for truth with objectivity, holistic thinking and intense analysis used constructively!

A little home alchemy: Power colors this week include yellow, purple, grey, violet, indigo and salmon pink.

Jade, jasper, topaz, aquamarine as well as amber and malachite worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will definitely keep our heads clear and our thoughts balanced this week.

Uranium, mercury and zinc are this week’s metals – and other than zinc, none should be worn or even handled for obvious reasons. A little zinc oxide on your nose will prevent sunburn there, though.

Scent your home, bath and body with cornflower, lilac, vervain (verbena), snowdrop and foxglove to enhance your intellectual and analytical powers this week.

Foods prepared with parsley, dill, rosemary, lemongrass, peppermint and mace will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Nine of Cups

Weekly Tarotcast™: 8-07-18 through 8-14-18

Nine of Cups

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Nine of Cups. This is one of the happiest, most positive and optimistic cards in the deck, especially in all matters emotional, including romantic love!

Is everybody happy? You bet! This week is a great time to get centered, smile and celebrate while enjoying the pleasures and comforts of the very best things life has to offer. This card is the big “YES” – so be prepared to say yes to just about anything this week, and be prepared for the big “YES” in terms of good things coming your way.

The Nines of the Minor Arcana bring things toward a conclusion. They represent integration, fulfillment and attainment for their respective suits and elements, in this case Cups and Water energy. Social and sensual pleasures are still enjoyed in moderation, desires are satisfied and contentment reigns.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, this card represents the formula 9: sephiroth or sphere 9, Yesod (meaning Foundation – sphere of Luna, where energy crystallizes) in the suit of Cups (Briah, the Creative world; the element of Water – our heart and emotions) plus Jupiter in Pisces (more on that in a moment) equaling Happiness.

Astrologically, this card represents Jupiter in Pisces, and rules from 10 to 20 degrees Pisces, or March 1st through March 10th, so if your birthday falls on or between those dates you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. Jupiter’s knack for enjoying the good life and “bigger, better, more” energy is right at home in the mutable water sign of the Fish, where things are comfortable and cozy.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is still transiting Fire-sign Leo (through August 23rd), and Mercury remains retrograde in Leo (through August 19th). The New Moon partial Solar Eclipse in Leo on August 11th can propel us into a period of playfulness, romantic connections and powerful self-expression. The strengths of the Lion – generosity, creativity, courage and warmth, to name just a few – come to the forefront. We are motivated to share our unique gifts with the world around us. We look for positive ways to take charge of our lives. This is a harmonious complement to the energy of this forecast period.

We’ll have to wait just a little bit for the solar system to catch up with the energy of this week’s card. On August 19th, Jupiter in Pisces’ fellow Water-sign Scorpio will trine Neptune in Pisces, a truly perfect match to the energy of this week’s card. Let’s consider this week a preview of good things to come!

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes conceit and vanity. Avoid being gullible. Check your “Too Good to Be True” Meter, because if something really IS too good to be true you’ll want to take a pass.

Let’s focus on sharing our good fortune and positive news with others and allowing them to share theirs with us! Stay receptive and be ready to say “YES” – accept affirmatives into your life this week.

A little home alchemy: Power colors this week include sea-green, blue, purple, violet and white.

Of course, there couldn’t be a better time to listen to music that makes you want to dance, sing, or – if you’re feeling too shy for those, just lifts your spirits high! How about Pharrell Williams’ “Happy?” or “Don’t Worry, Be Happy?” The word “happy” doesn’t even have to be in the title. One of my all-time favorites (and a song I lovingly describe as the happiest flippin’ song in the world) is “Jackie Wilson Said” by Van Morrison. Whatever works for you.

Amethyst, aquamarine, sapphire, emerald or topaz worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will help us to clarify and manifest what makes us happy and serves our highest good.

Tin is this week’s metal, not great for wearing – but a strong alloy (and ally) for strength and flexibility.

Scent your home, bath and body with musk, lavender, jasmine, heliotrope, carnation, opium poppy, cedar, honeysuckle and hyssop to feel love, happiness and optimism; to awaken Pisces gentle, loving nature and to radiate Jupiter’s noble power.

Foods prepared with clove, sage, anise, cinnamon, nutmeg and mint especially in liquids (soups, teas) and in all types of desserts and sweets, will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Ten of Wands

Weekly Tarotcast™: 7-31-18 through 8-07-18

Ten of Wands

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Ten of Wands. This week’s energy is a warning against many things – all of which represent the ways in which we imprison ourselves in cages of our own design. This can include anything from workaholism to taking on burdens that aren’t ours to bear. Personal responsibility is important, but so are boundaries. Taking on the responsibilities that rightly belong to others can lead to feelings of resentment because we’re playing the martyr.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, this card represents the formula 10: sephiroth or sphere 10, Malkuth (meaning Kingdom – sphere of Earth and the full materialization of energy) in the suit of Wands (the element of Fire – Atziluth, the archetypal world; our Will in action) plus Saturn in Sagittarius (more on that in a moment) equaling Oppression.

Frankly, this is not the most pleasant energy around. Since all of the tens of the Minor Arcana cards are in the sephiroth of Malkuth on the tree of life, this lowest sephiroth represents the material world, and is the position in which all the elements (in this case Fire) expend their energy in its grossest, and often most destructive form.

Here is what Crowley writes of this card: “This is what happens when one uses force, force, and nothing else but force all the time. Here looms the dull and heavy planet Saturn weighing down the fiery, ethereal side of Sagittarius; it brings out all the worst in Sagittarius. See the Archer, not shooting forth benign rays, but dealing the sharp rain of death! The Wand has conquered; it has done its work; it has done its work too well; it did not know when to stop; Government has become Tyranny.”

Astrologically this card represents Saturn in Sagittarius, and rules from 20 to 30 degrees Sagittarius, or December 13th to December 21st so if your birthday falls on or between these dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. Sagittarius is the most ethereal of the fire signs – Saturn’s oppressive, repressive, heavy iron boots can be freedom-loving Sagittarius’ worst nightmare realized.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is transiting Sagittarius’ fellow Fire-sign Leo (through August 23rd). Mercury is retrograde in Leo (through August 19th). This heavily-charged energy can create some serious challenges during this forecast period. Leo’s force of will and sometimes aggressive communication style can meet with hard resistance and create conflict. This is only multiplied and intensified in combination with the Mercury retrograde energy which tends to mess up communication.

When Venus enters Air-sign Libra on August 6th we’re more likely to try charm rather than aggression to get what we want. Since we’re likely to be repelled by aggressive or rude behavior we may be somewhat cool and detached when dealing with others – and under the influences of this week’s card, that might not be a bad thing.

Both Mars and Saturn are retrograde in Saturn-ruled Capricorn. While Saturn’s energies are most at home in methodical, practical and ambitious but slow-moving Capricorn, Mars energy is straining at the seams and chomping at the bit to move quickly and aggressively.
Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card abounds – fixation, obsession, repression and oppression are rife. So are inflexible attitudes and beliefs and the idea of a punishing, vengeful God. If the only tool you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. Check your toolbox carefully this week.

Let’s focus on what positives are available, mainly the strength to persevere and the use of slow, structured growth to push past our internal obstacles.

A little home alchemy: Power colors this week include yellow, indigo, black, blue and green.

Sapphire, emerald and topaz enhance the light, mobile energy of Sagittarius while obsidian, garnet, onyx and jet represent Saturn’s grounding force. This week wearing either (but not in combination) as jewelry or carried as power stones will keep us moving forward slowly but surely and keep our boundaries securely in place.

Tin and lead are this week’s metals. Neither is good for wearing, but can be good reminders of the strength to be found when we combine our efforts in positive alliances.

Scent your home, bath and body with carnation, sage, valerian, comfrey, musk, patchouli, slippery elm, thyme, and witch hazel to enhance any of the positives available this week.

Foods prepared with thyme and sage, or teas brewed from valerian or comfrey will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: The Hermit

Weekly Tarotcast™: 7-24-18 through 7-31-18

The Hermit

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Hermit. This card shows us that taking a (temporarily) solitary path will aid us in our search for truth. Solitude and being alone don’t have to mean feeling lonely, so we may find that we actively seek and very much enjoy our own company this week. Probing our own inner consciousness and exploring our psyches will not only appeal to us, the insights we gain and the discoveries we make can bring us solutions to long-standing problems or issues, and give us the seeds to sow for a crop of new ideas and fresh directions.

We may find ourselves withdrawing from current events and taking a less-active role in our relationships and environments, not due to depression or disinterest, but because the energy this week calls us to look within. Reflection and introspection are our best tools to emerging refreshed, renewed and ready for action again.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life this card travels path 20, joining sephiroth or sphere 4, Chesed (meaning Mercy – sphere of Jupiter and the rule of law) to sephiroth or sphere 6, Tiphareth (meaning Beauty – sphere of the Sun; energy in complete and balanced manifestation). Its Hebrew letter is Yod, meaning the hand, and it is with our hands that we sow seeds – which are hidden in the ground during the crucial stages of their ultimate development and growth. It is also with our hands that we cultivate our gardens – and ultimately harvest their bounty.

Astrologically, this card is the zodiacal trump of Virgo, in which Mercury both rules and is exalted. The unique way in which Mercury, the Earth and Sun come together in this card symbolizes the special magic of growing things. The seed placed into the soil, hidden from view, undergoes a transformation and bursts forth into the sunlight to be further nurtured and grow to maturity. Here particularly, Mercury (Hermes to the Greeks) shows us his versatility beyond being a messenger and trickster. His roles include acting as a guide for the dead crossing over, an interpreter, a transformer and the patron of geographical (and metaphorical) boundaries and the travelers who navigate them.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is transiting Fire sign Leo, Virgo’s next-door neighbor.

Mercury turns retrograde on July 26th in Leo (through August 19th) and will not leave that sign through this transit. All of the usual warnings apply during this forecast period – take extra care in all forms of communication, allow extra time when traveling, expect some delays, obstacles, postponements or cancellations. With both Mercury and Mars retrograde now, forward progress may be minimal – things will be moving slowly.

A Full Moon Lunar eclipse occurs on July 27th in Air sign Aquarius (Leo’s polar opposite on the wheel of the zodiac). During this forecast period we are very sensitive to the flaws and shortcomings of those areas of our lives where we interact with others: personal relationships, work colleagues and members of our community. While we’re very aware of our need for human connection and interaction we may have a hard time acting objectively and rationally. Decisions made at this time are driven by our emotions. Combined with the energy of this week’s card, the challenge will be balancing our personal goals with the needs of the community and groups that we belong to.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes rigidity, hard attitudes, bitterness and hostility toward the outside world – even narcissism.

Let’s focus on the qualities of emotional maturity, wisdom and enlightenment this week.

A little home alchemy: Power colors this week are yellowish green, slate grey, grey-green and plum.

This is a great week to listen to Revolution 9 from the Beatles’ White Album, Beethoven’s Ninth symphony or Gregorian chants, since this Major Arcana card is numbered 9 – the number which always comes back to itself.

Onyx and clear crystal as well as diamonds worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will make your alone-time or me-time as productive, meaningful and informative as possible.

This week’s metals are gold and platinum – pricey I know, but wear ‘em if you’ve got ‘em, because they beautifully symbolize the light that is born from darkness.

Scent your home, bath and body with lily, valerian, lavender, lilac, and frankincense to awaken the introspective and transformative powers of the Hermit.

Foods prepared with parsley, dill, rosemary, lavender, lemongrass and mace, or tea brewed from peppermint; as well as beverages containing juniper (gin!) and wormwood (absinthe!) – in moderation, please – will provide the same beneficial effects.

Weekly Tarotcast™: Ace of Cups

Weekly Tarotcast™: 7-17-18 through 7-24-18

Ace of Cups

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Ace of Cups. The aces are the source or seed of their element’s energy, so the intrinsic powers of the element of Water are embodied in this card. Fluidity, receptivity, Yin (Female) energy and water’s power to reflect are all contained in the Ace of Cups. The water element also symbolizes our emotions – and more accurately with the Ace, our potential to feel and express a range of emotions.

All of the Aces of the Tarot can be a bit confusing, especially since they actually have a closer bond with the Princesses (Pages) of each suit than they do with cards 2 through 10 of their respective suits. This card has the Princess of Cups as its throne, and together with her rules the Libra-Scorpio-Sagittarius celestial quadrant above the North Pole and the area of the Pacific Rim. Whew!

This card represents the possibilities of desire for harmonious union, love and affection, and the mystery of romantic attraction, although all types of love can come into our lives this week.

We are ready to go to the core of our hearts and souls, and we are open and receptive to the deepest feelings of others too. A sense of newness – birth or rebirth – is connected to this card. All things “new” will have a strong appeal – a new love, a new start, a new-found appreciation for life, new (or renewed) emotional connections.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life this card represents the 1st sephiroth or sphere of Kether (the Crown, origin) through the element of Water – Briah; the Creative world and the divine soul, intuition.

Astrologically, for interpretive purposes, this card incorporates the energy, qualities and characteristics of the three water signs – sensitivity (Cancer), desire (Scorpio) and mysticism (Pisces).

In real-time astrology, the Sun continues its transit of Water-sign Cancer (until July 22nd). Cancer is a Cardinal sign – the leaders and originators of their astrological elements. Cardinal signs want to initiate plans and take action. The best use of this energy in this forecast period is to manifest what we most love and value. Sow the seeds of new projects nearest and dearest to your heart’s desire, but remember that the Mars retrograde may keep you working on the planning stages for the rest of this month and most of August. Nurture and care for what you hope to grow and harvest later this year.

As the Sun moves into Fire-sign Leo on July 22nd, we finish this forecast period with heart-felt appreciation and a sunburst of creativity.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes vague thinking, irrational indulgence of the emotions, and creating emotional “tsunamis” that can overwhelm or threaten to drown others (or ourselves).

Let’s focus on inviting and welcoming the healing qualities of water into our lives this week.

A little home alchemy: The true color of the Ace of Cups is pure white brilliance. Power colors this week also include grey, indigo, aquamarine, turquoise and all the various colors of water.

Aquamarine, beryl, opal, amethyst, blue tourmaline, pearl, coral, blue topaz, blue fluorite, larimar, lapis lazuli and sodalite worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will help us channel the cleansing and liberating powers of water.

Mercury and copper as well as white metals (such as silver, white gold and platinum) are all reminders of water’s power of reflection, refraction and brilliance.

Scent your home, bath and body with aloe, gardenia, lilac, lily of the valley, lotus, mosses, passion flower, rose – water lilies and all water plants will help us connect with our innermost emotions in a calm, peaceful and powerful way this week.

Foods prepared with apple, lemon, lettuce, lotus root, thyme and seaweed as well as teas brewed from chamomile or rose hips will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Seven of Wands

Weekly Tarotcast™: 7-10-18 through 7-17-18

Seven of Wands

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Seven of Wands. This card warns us that we may be wasting our energy this week. For certain, there is a struggle going on – feelings of bravery and assertiveness against feelings of degeneration and weakness. There are challenges and obstacles galore and we may feel as if no one has our back – our struggle is essentially ours alone, and there may not be much help or support. If we do achieve a victory, it’s likely to come solely through our own efforts.

The Sevens of the Minor Arcana illuminate the motives for manifestation of their respective suits and elements. Balance gives way to questioning and exploration as well as the disruption which naturally arises from the search for the underlying causes of creative action. The sevens dissolve and deconstruct.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life this card represents the formula 7: sephiroth or sphere 7, Netzach (meaning Victory, sphere of Venus – illusion, imbalance, weakness) in the suit of Wands (Atziluth, the archetypal world; the element of Fire – the will) plus Mars in Leo (more on that in a moment) equaling Valour.

Astrologically, this card represents Mars in Leo, and rules from 20 to 30 degrees Leo, or August 12th through August 22nd so if your birthday falls on or between these dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. Mars in Leo is ambitious and idealistic, with the ability to persevere. Although valour is another word for courage, in this instance it may come across as vain bravado, false machismo, or senseless resistance.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is transiting Water-sign Cancer, Leo’s next-door neighbor sign (until July 22nd). Just following this forecast period, the Sun will begin its annual transit of Fire-sign Leo. Mars continues its retrograde transit of Leo’s polar-opposite sign of Aquarius through the month of July. Especially in conjunction with the energy of this week’s card, we are impatient to resolve an ongoing problem or bring a project to conclusion. We can feel stuck and frustrated because things are just not moving forward. The past refuses to stay behind us.

Mercury transits Leo through the month of July (through September 5th). We’re likely to focus more on the big picture and less on the details. When Mercury retrogrades in Leo following this forecast period (July 26th to August 19th) we may revisit old recreational or creative pursuits with renewed interest and enthusiasm. Our perspective on past projects can change and we may even consider revamping them based on our new viewpoint. Mercury starts its shadow phase on July 7th so events occurring on and after this date may be the first to need review or revision during the retrograde period.

We have a New Moon partial Solar Eclipse in Cancer on July 12th. This lunation is a great chance for a fresh start. We’ll be exploring and attending to our feelings as well as our deepest needs and desires. We find deeper appreciation for our family and closest friends – especially for the sense of community, belonging, safety and security we find in our relationships with them. Our need and desire for intimacy is strong during this moon phase. This energy can be a great complement to the energy of this week’s card – urging us to reach out for support as we begin a new stage of our journey.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes indecisiveness, blind ignorance, swaggering arrogance with nothing to back it up, and a mismatch between our assertiveness and our plain old good sense. If there was ever a week to choose your battles wisely, this would be the one.

Let’s focus on conserving our energy and using it positively, as well as realizing that sometimes the most courageous thing we can do is forgo a battle – just skip it.

A little home alchemy: Power colors for this week include amber, all shades of red, yellow and deep purple.

Mars iron and Leo gold are this week’s metals. Wear the Leo (yellow or rose) gold to remind you of Leo’s big-hearted courage, but skip the Lion’s arrogance and vanity.

Ruby, bloodstone, garnet, amber and diamond worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will help balance out the tendency to be hot-headed or combative this week.

Scent your home, bath and body with marigold, sunflower, wild rose, pine, and tobacco (no, you don’t need to smoke it!) this week to stay focused on winnable battles, and to make good use of your energy and time.

Foods prepared with allspice, cayenne, garlic, ginger and pepper, as well as thistle (think artichokes!) along with beverages made from hops (beer), or wormwood (the Green Fairy – absinthe) – all in moderation, of course – will provide the same beneficial effects.
