Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Four of Wands

Weekly Tarotcast™: 5-22-18 through 5-29-18

 Four of Wands

fourofwands

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Four of Wands. We’ll be focused on committed relationships of all kinds, from business partnerships to friendships and marriage.  Our commitment to others, their commitment to us and our shared endeavors, are all positively influenced by this card’s energy.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life this card represents the formula 4: sephiroth or sphere 4, of Chesed (meaning Mercy – the sphere of Jupiter and materialization) in the suit of Wands (Atziluth, the archetypal world, the element of Fire – our will) plus Venus in Aries (more on that in a moment) equaling Completion.

The Fours of the Minor Arcana are where the form and structure of their respective elements and suits are stabilized and nurtured for further development and manifestation. They bring unification, domestication, reflection, or gestation in events and situations.

Astrologically, this card represents Venus in Aries and rules from 20 to 30 degrees Aries, or April 11th through April 20th so if your birthday falls on or between these dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us.  This is nicely tuned energy, reminding us that the Aries drive toward achievement and success is best accomplished with the tact, gentleness and diplomacy of Venus.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is transiting Air-sign Gemini. Venus is transiting Water-sign Cancer (through June 13th). We seek familiarity, safety and security in our romantic relationships and may find ourselves feeling especially affectionate and sentimental.

Chiron – an asteroid with an erratic orbit, known as the Wounded Healer in astrology, entered Aries in April of this year and completes a long transit of that sign in 2027. This tremendously transformative energy is a great complement to the energy of this forecast period – Aries the Healed Warrior can bring strength, resolve and gentle understanding into his or her own life and into the world.

The completion of a strong and healthy foundation on which to build is offered to us with this week’s energy. Lastly, the Full Moon in Aries fellow Fire-sign Sagittarius on May 29th reminds us to look beyond our normal routines and our usual thoughts, actions and environments. This is a Full Moon of growth and expansion so pay special attention to what you want to promote and increase at this time.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes overestimating ourselves or our abilities, senseless and frantic activity, egotistical self-indulgence and vanity.

Let’s focus on the inner fulfillment, harmonious partnership and aspiration to spiritual ideals that this card can bring.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include Venus’ emerald green, spring green, sky blue and bright rose pink along with Aries’ scarlet red.

Emerald, opal, jade, sapphire, lapis lazuli (for Venus) as well as ruby, bloodstone, diamond, garnet (for Aries) will both energize us and keep us attentive to the feelings and needs of others.

Copper and iron are this week’s metals.  Choose copper for its healing and balancing properties. Iron isn’t great for wearing, but in combination with copper (if the copper is copper sulfate), the two create sparks – like fireworks!

Scent your home, bath and body with wild rose, hibiscus, bergamot, plumeria, violet and magnolia as well apple, vanilla and strawberry to balance drive and strength with fairness this week.

Foods prepared with apple, vanilla and strawberry as well as everyone’s favorite thistle – the artichoke – will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Eight of Cups

Weekly Tarotcast™: 5-15-18 through 5-22-18

 Eight of Cups

EightofCups

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Eight of Cups.  This is not the cheeriest of the cup cards, but does indicate leaving the past behind and walking away from situations and relationships we’ve outgrown, been disappointed with, or that have simply reached their natural conclusion.  While those actions might be painful, they are often necessary for our further development and can be viewed as positive – or at least a move in a more positive direction.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, this card represents the formula 8: sephiroth or sphere 8, Hod (meaning Splendor – which deals with illusions, imbalance and weakness of the Yang or masculine energy) in the suit of Cups (Briah – the Creative world, the element of Water, our emotions) plus Saturn in Pisces (more on that in a moment) equaling Indolence.

The Eights of the Minor Arcana evaluate, organize, reason and communicate for their respective suits and elements. Their energy may lack harmony, but they can restore symmetry and balance. The eights bring justice, karmic balancing or rebalancing, order and structure along with the limitations and boundaries of those states.

Astrologically, this card represents Saturn in Pisces and rules from 0 to 10 degrees Pisces, or February 19th through February 28th so if your birthday falls on or between those dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. Saturn’s heavy-handed, hard-nosed energy in a delicate water sign like Pisces leaves the Fish without much mojo, or the strength to stand up and fight.  And indolence means inclined to be lazy or to resist action.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is transiting Earth-sign Taurus. The May 15h New Moon in Taurus finds us ready and able to take charge, assume a leadership role and make strides in providing for our future security. This energy can provide a welcome balance during this forecast period by enhancing our feelings of self-worth. It is beneficial for reconnecting with our physical bodies, our senses and the natural world.

May 15h also begins Uranus’ transit of Taurus (through 2026). Although seemingly contrary to Taurus’ nature, with this aspect we find that change is easier, and we’re inclined to shake things up. Combined with this week’s card, some new and novel approaches may be just what we need.

Saturn continues its retrograde transit of Earth-sign Capricorn (the sign it rules). No one likes to backtrack, but sometimes clearing up old or unfinished business is the only way to truly move forward. Rather than complain, accept slow progress versus no progress.

On May 19th Venus enters Pisces’ fellow Water-sign, Cancer (through June 13th).  We seek familiarity, safety and security in our romantic relationships and may find ourselves feeling especially affectionate and sentimental. Care is necessary though, as sentimentality can turn to melancholy and self-indulgence. We are also more self-protective and may react – or overreact if we feel threatened.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes depression, self-pity, apathy, and at its very worst – suicidal thoughts or tendencies.

Let’s focus on the positive or light side of this energy – and there is some – the wisdom to let go of what no longer serves our highest good. Often relinquishing control is our only good option, and finding the reserves of strength we need to take a fresh look, a breath of fresh air, or a drink of fresh water changes things enough for us to regain a positive outlook.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include indigo, black and blue (for Saturn), violet and white for Pisces.

Sapphire, emerald and amethyst (for Pisces) and onyx, obsidian, jet and garnet (for Saturn) worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will also help us keep our hearts open and our heads held high. They can also help us balance and recharge our batteries.

Lead (Saturn) and tin (Pisces) are this week’s metals – neither is good for wearing, but for reminding us that flexibility can serve us best when we’re under the weight of change.

Scent your home, bath and body with heliotrope, carnation, opium poppy (the scent, not the drug), valerian, comfrey, musk and patchouli – they will soothe and heal us this week. Saturn’s influence in Pisces may not be the most comfortable energy – still, let’s make the most of the opportunities it presents.

Foods prepared with thyme or teas brewed from comfrey or valerian will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: The Lovers

Weekly Tarotcast™: 5-08-18 through 5-15-18

 The Lovers

6-TheLovers

The weekly Tarotcast card is The Lovers. This is one of those cards with an apparently obvious meaning and on one level, this card does represent romantic partnerships, relationships and marriage.  However, this card speaks more to the importance of choice – and the making of correct choices – in many areas of our lives beyond our love relationships.  To make our best choices, we need to know who we are and what we want and need in order to find personal fulfillment.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life this card travels Path 17, joining sephiroth or sphere 3, Binah (meaning Understanding) to sephiroth or sphere 6, Tiphareth (meaning Beauty).  Its Hebrew letter is Zain (a sword) – surprising? Seems like that would be more in keeping with a fighter than a lover.  But as an intellectual “weapon” the sword’s sharp blade cuts through illusion and irrelevancy, and it comes to a point – all things we need to do in order to choose well.

Astrologically, this card is the zodiacal trump of Gemini, ruled by the planet Mercury.  The usual idea of twins – identical in appearance and often complementary in nature, is used here to depict the union of opposites, and the merging into totality – two becoming one, or duality resolving into unity.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is currently transiting Earth-sign Taurus. On May 13th, Mercury will enter Taurus (Gemini’s next-door neighbor sign). During this transit our focus will be on useful, practical plans and actions. We are grounded in reality and this should have a positive effect on the choices we make. Mercury is in mutual reception with Venus (Taurus’ ruling planet) from May 13th -18th.

Two planets are in mutual reception when they are in each other’s signs: in this case, Mercury is in Taurus and Venus is in Gemini.

The May 15h New Moon in Taurus finds us ready and able to take charge, assume a leadership role and make strides in providing for our future security. This is a great time to heal our relationship with money and to discover what we truly value. The energy during this forecast period also enhances our feelings of self-worth. Reconnect with your body, your senses and the natural world.

May 15h also begins Uranus’ transit of Taurus (through 2026). Although seemingly contrary to Taurus’ nature, we find that change is easier, and we’re inclined to shake things up especially around our homes. We will likely find new and innovative ways to do business and to make and save money.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes indecisiveness, inconsistency, unenlightened self-sacrifice, imbalance, and a lack of self-insight or self-knowledge.

Let’s focus on decision-making from our hearts this week, as well as the courage and awareness to act in our own best interests without selfishness or ego.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors for this week include orange, yellow, pale mauve and grey.

Carnelian, red coral, jade, agate and topaz worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will help keep our minds and hearts clear as we make our choices.

Mercury is this week’s metal, impossible to wear, but instructive as we employ adaptability when deciding our best course of action.

Scent your home, bath and body with sandalwood, musk, lilac and iris to integrate mind, heart, body and spirit this week.

Foods prepared with parsley, dill, lavender, lemongrass, mace, peppermint and rosemary, as well as tea brewed from peppermint, will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Four of Cups

Weekly Tarotcast™: 5-01-18 through 5-08-18

 Four of Cups

FourofCups

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Four of Cups.  This card’s energy is protective and nurturing, what we commonly think of as the maternal instinct. Caring, affection and the creation of emotional stability will be recurring themes during this week, and we will likely be looking for ways to express ourselves in terms of unconditional love. All of this can contribute to a period of relative ease and feelings of security; however, this energy borders on being too much of a good thing.  Attempts to bind, restrict or limit others under the guise of “love” quickly turns “mothering” into smothering.

The Fours of the Minor Arcana are where the form and structure of their respective elements and suits are stabilized and nurtured for further development and manifestation. They bring unification, domestication, reflection, or gestation to events and situations.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, this card represents the formula 4: sephiroth or sphere 4, Chesed (meaning Mercy, the sphere of Jupiter and the rule of law), in the suit of Cups (Briah, the Creative world; the element of Water – our heart and emotions) plus the Moon in Cancer (more on that in a moment), equaling “Luxury.”

Astrologically, this card corresponds to the Moon in Cancer and rules from 20 to 30 degrees Cancer, or July 12th through July 21st so if your birthday falls on or between these dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us.  The Moon rules the sign of Cancer and is very much at home in this most home-y of the signs – comfort, coziness and nesting instincts will be very much in evidence this week.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is transiting Earth-sign Taurus. This energy harmonizes nicely with the energy of this week’s card. We can cultivate appreciation for the aspects of our lives that sustain and support us, and recognize those things that provide a lasting foundation on which to build and grow.

Just prior to this forecast period, the Full Moon in Cancer’s fellow Water-sign Scorpio, trine Neptune in Water-sign Pisces completed a powerful energy triad in the emotional realm of our lives.  Before things become too intense or overwhelming, the opposition of the Taurus Sun is a welcome, stabilizing and grounding force. This is wonderful energy for releasing and healing. Taurus and Scorpio are both fixed signs – they seek security but also independence; perfect for enhancing the more positive aspects of this week’s card.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes possessiveness, as well as control and manipulation through emotions. It reminds us how easy it is to go from comfort to crushing boredom and from cozy familiarity to contempt – and the resulting winds of rebellion can blow pretty hard.

Let’s focus on the sense of being emotionally grounded by loving energy and enjoy restful domesticity this week. Use this energy as a way to recharge your batteries before going back out into the world, but don’t seek to stay here indefinitely.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include blue, pearl white and silver for the Moon as well as amber, maroon and bright russet for Cancer.

Emerald, cat’s eye, pearl, opal, rock crystal and moonstone worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will help you balance the need for cocooning with the need for outside stimuli this week.

Silver is this week’s metal – wear it to feel emotionally stable, caring and affectionate.

Scent your home, bath and body with poppy, white rose, water lily, coconut, gardenia, jasmine, lotus, myrrh and sandalwood to enhance healthy maternal instincts and your nurturing, supportive nature.

Foods prepared with watercress, poppy seeds, coconut, and wintergreen as well as tea brewed from jasmine or wintergreen (mint) will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Seven of Disks

Weekly Tarotcast™: 4-24-18 through 5-01-18

Seven of Disks

SevenofDisks

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Seven of Disks (this suit is also called Pentacles or Coins). We’re in for a period of evaluation as well as a time to pause, reflect and understand that things bear fruit in the proper season. A lack of this basic understanding can mean the crop doesn’t come in at all.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life this card represents the formula 7:  sephiroth or sphere 7, Netzach (meaning Victory, sphere of Venus; the masculinized Female – illusion, imbalance, weakness) of Disks (the element of Earth – Assiah, the material world; our physical bodies, assets and resources) plus Saturn in Taurus (more on that in a moment) = Failure.

The Sevens of the Minor Arcana illuminate the motives for manifestation for their respective suits and elements. Balance gives way to questioning and exploration as well as disruption. The sevens dissolve and deconstruct. They have a weakening effect when it comes to direct action, or conscious, mindful and aware inaction. In this case, the weakening effect is the masculinized Female. We are talking about energies here, not cultural concepts of gender or sex.

Astrologically, this card represents Saturn in Taurus and rules from 20 to 30 degrees Taurus or May 11th through May 20th, so if your birthday falls on or between those dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. The energy here can get weighed down, becoming slow and heavy indeed.  Venus-ruled Taurus under Saturn’s weight can change the Bull’s patient persistence and practical dreams into a loss of confidence, leading to stagnation and the abandonment of all effort.

In real-time astrology, The Sun is transiting Earth-sign Taurus. This energy can help to harmonize some of the energy of this week’s card. We can cultivate appreciation for the aspects of our lives that sustain and support us, and recognize those things that provide a lasting foundation on which to build and grow.

During this forecast period, Saturn is currently retrograde and transiting Taurus’ fellow Earth-sign, Capricorn (through March 2020) the sign which it rules. Saturn transits can help us behave maturely and teach us self-reliance. We take responsibility for ourselves. In combination with this week’s card, we can use some of the more positive and beneficial aspects of this aspect to avoid the pitfalls in our path.

Taurus’ ruling planet Venus enters Air-sign Gemini on April 24th, heightening our curiosity and sociability but possibly triggering flightiness and a tendency to be fickle.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes abandonment of hope and effort, laziness, sloth and failure.

Let’s focus on confronting our fears, temporarily standing still and standing strong as we face them. Otherwise all hope will seem like false hope. This isn’t a particularly optimistic card, so a more serious and practical approach to the events at hand is necessary if we don’t want to experience a spectacular failure.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors for this week include olive green, gold, red-orange, rich brown and deep indigo for Taurus as well as black, gray and dark brown for Saturn. In this case I would choose to emphasize one or the other rather than reinforcing them in combination.

Sapphire, emerald, turquoise and jade for Taurus or obsidian, onyx, jet and garnet for Saturn worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will help us stay grounded, patient and aware instead of lazy and negative. Again, I’d choose either/or rather than a combination.

Lead and copper are this week’s metals – I’d opt for copper and try for its reported benefits in reducing or eliminating joint pain, stiffness and inflammation.  Skip the lead altogether.

Scent your home, bath and body with violet, magnolia, plumeria, rose, apple, vanilla, strawberry, musk and patchouli. It’s a good week to get your hands in some dirt – work in your garden (or a friend’s) or just repot a houseplant. And don’t forget to water!  Activities that take you into nature are positively “grounding.” Take good care of your neck and throat this week – they’ll be more vulnerable than usual.

Foods prepared with violets (yes, they’re edible!), apple, strawberry; nightshade family foods such as potatoes, tomatoes, sweet and hot peppers and eggplant,  thyme and vanilla as well as teas brewed from comfrey and valerian will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: The Priestess

Weekly Tarotcast™: 4-17-18 through 4-24-18

 The Priestess

2-ThePriestess

The weekly Tarotcast card is The Priestess, also known as The High Priestess. Our intuition and inspiration will be flowing freely this week. The Priestess is the embodiment of feminine consciousness – she is the Yin principle and she guards the gate of the unconscious.  Her purity and virginity are spiritual rather than physical, and her veil – like a bridal veil – can be lifted only by the initiate of the Light.

Her invitation to us this week is to look within for our answers, she knows but doesn’t tell. Our ability to unravel mysteries and discover information that’s been hidden or held in secret will be enhanced this week. This doesn’t mean we get to pry or spy; rather, by tapping into our own psychic abilities, intuition and dreams, and trusting what we see and feel with our inner senses, answers come to us and enlighten us.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, the High Priestess travels Path 13, joining sephiroth or sphere 1, Kether (meaning the Crown) to sephiroth or sphere 6, Tiphareth (meaning Beauty).  Its Hebrew letter is Gimel which means “camel”.  Think that’s odd? Symbolically, the Priestess traverses the Abyss – the desert of the soul. Just like the camel crossing the physical desert, she is the only creature capable of successfully crossing the wasteland.

Astrologically this card is the planetary trump of the Moon, and represents the Moon in its highest aspect – the aspect that joins the human to the divine.

In real-time astrology, Saturn is transiting Earth-sign Capricorn, its home sign (through March 2020).  It will retrograde there on April 17th. Combined with the energy of this week’s card, this could be a good time to hit “pause” and review our plans, go deep within to learn and trust the lessons of our own intuitive sense. This Saturn retrograde can stir up feelings of guilt and self-doubt. Combined with the energy of this forecast period, we can find the courage to pass through that dark night of the soul – the desert – confidently steady and sure-footed.  Pluto will also retrograde in Capricorn on April 22nd, giving us the opportunity to reassess our use of personal power. We may be more inclined to hide our desires for power and control.

The Sun enters Earth-sign Taurus on April 19th.  Taurus is ruled by the planet Venus, and the Moon is exalted in this sign. This transit harmonizes nicely with this week’s card. Although this isn’t the best time to engage in radical change, we can look within to find the best ways to expand on what we already know and already have. We can cultivate a special appreciation for the aspects of our lives that sustain and support us, and provide a lasting foundation on which to build and grow.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes falling into illusions, phoniness and escape from reality. Lunar energy – like lunar light – can be deceptive and seductive if we’re careless or trust our physical vision only.

Let’s focus on openness and receptivity while maintaining an awareness that not everything is as it appears on the surface; and let’s remember to process information wisely rather than accepting anything at face value.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include silver, pearlescent white and cool, pale blue.

Chalcedony, clear crystals, opals or moonstones worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will enhance our psychic and intuitive abilities this week and help us see clearly to the truth of the matters at hand.

Silver is this week’s metal.  Wear it for its clear, bright light – silver is one of the most reflective of all precious metals, is the “whitest” of them, and is also the most electrically conductive. Think about all of that in conjunction with the Priestess’ energy, and you’ll have a powerful week ahead.

Scent your home, bath and body with poppy, lily, white rose, gardenia, jasmine, lotus flower, myrrh and sandalwood to purify and cleanse mind, body and spirit and to invite clear inner vision.

Foods prepared with coconut, lotus root, poppy seeds, cloves and wintergreen (mint) as well as tea brewed with jasmine will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Eight of Disks

Weekly Tarotcast™: 4-10-18 through 4-17-18

Eight of Disks

EightofDisks

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Eight of Disks.  This suit is also called Pentacles or Coins. This card symbolizes order, self-discipline, attention to detail, and the benefits of knowing when to watch and wait, to wait and see. A stable, secure foundation is established, upon which one can build as needed when the time is right.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, this card represents the formula 8: sephiroth or sphere 8, Hod (meaning Splendor, sphere of Mercury and the feminized Male) in the suit of Disks (the element of Earth – Assiah, the material world; our physical bodies, assets and resources) plus the Sun in Virgo (more on that in a moment) equaling Prudence.

The Eights of the minor Arcana evaluate, organize, reason and communicate for their respective suits and elements. The eights bring justice, karmic balancing or rebalancing, order and structure within limitations and boundaries. Like their counterparts the Sevens, their position on the Tree of Life is somewhat weak and unbalanced. So where’d all this balanced energy in the Eight of Disks come from? It gets its unique benefits from its astrological correspondence.

Astrologically, this card symbolizes the Sun in Virgo and rules from 0 to 10 degrees Virgo, or August 23rd to September 1st, so if your birthday falls on or between those dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us.  The Sun in Virgo brings a positive and stabilizing energy into this card since often in material matters – whether business ventures or gardening – there is an inherent benefit in knowing when to do nothing – to simply plant the seeds and wait.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is transiting Fire-sign Aries. This week’s card would seem to be in opposition to Aries’ action-oriented, sometimes impulsive nature. But along with knowing when to wait, this week’s card also encompasses knowing when to take appropriate, considered (some might say calculated) action. This year, mid-April is a busy time in the heavens and a busy time for this forecast period.

Jupiter retrograde (in Water-sign Scorpio) sextiles Pluto in Earth-sign Capricorn on April 14th. This is the second of three exact sextiles occurring this year. The last is on September 12th. This powerful transit sparks our ambitions and favors business, legal issues and commerce in general. Our personal influence and faith are on the rise. We give of our energy and time freely, in the pursuit of or professional or private goals. We are persuasive and convincing in presenting ideas or decision-making. This can be invaluable for resolving a long-standing problem or fully utilizing our resources.

On April 15th when Mercury stations direct in Aries we may find ourselves revisiting and reviewing recent decisions or returning to prior communications with a fresh perspective on the matters at hand.

April 15th also brings us the New Moon in Aries. We are bold in showing our true selves to the rest of the world. We can act on our motivations fearlessly and without anxiety about others’ expectations of us. As long as these impulses remain constructive, we acquire new independence, confidence, strength and integrity. There is a refreshingly innocent aspect to our way of engaging with others.

Last but not least, Saturn is transiting its home sign of Capricorn (through March 2020).  It will retrograde in that sign on April 17th. Combined with the energy of this week’s card, this could be a good time to hit “pause” and wait for our next, best opportunity to act.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes over-attention to detail and missing the big picture, manipulation of people or situations to gain an unfair advantage, and paralysis through extended inaction.

Let’s focus on practicality and getting our house spiritually and physically in order this week.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include orange, red, golden yellow, amber, slate gray, green and plum.

Carnelian, jade, jasper, amber, diamond and topaz worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will help us find order, organization and balance.

Gold and platinum are this week’s metals.  Wear ‘em if you’ve got ‘em!

Scent your home, bath and body with orange, cinnamon, clove, rosemary, valerian, heliotrope, mistletoe, cedar, and frankincense to balance mind, body and spirit this week.

Foods prepared with galangal, orange, rosemary, cinnamon, clove, sunflower seeds or oil, hops (beer!) and juniper (gin!) will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: The Devil

Weekly Tarotcast™: 4-03-18 through 4-10-18

 The Devil

15-TheDevil

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Devil. This card signifies both burdens and temptations, being enslaved by our desires through short-sightedness and a lack of perspective.  Passivity, victim consciousness and fear are embodied in this card.  We escape from bondage only when we realize that the chains which bind us and hold us back can be removed at will – our will.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life this card travels path 26: joining sephiroth or sphere 6, Tiphareth (meaning Beauty) to sephiroth or sphere 8, Hod (meaning Splendor).  Its Hebrew letter is Ayin which means “eye.” Our physical “eye” is our way of seeing the world. Our other “I”, or ego, is the way we want to see ourselves and want the world to see us.

Astrologically, this card is the zodiacal trump of Capricorn in which Saturn rules and Mars is exalted.

In real-time astrology, Saturn is transiting its home sign of Capricorn (through March 2020).  During the roughly two and a quarter years of this transit, we may find that new restrictions, limitations and boundaries are established or that existing ones are maintained. There are no easy shortcuts and this is not the time to cut corners. Saturn gives us what we truly earn and deserve, the way to reap rewards is through concentrated efforts and steady, patient progress.

Mars is transiting Earth-sign Capricorn (through May 16th). This energy along with that of the Saturn transit are perfect energetic matches to this week’s card – both positive and negative. During this forecast period, we continue to operate with structured, deliberate planning and action. Extra care may be required due to the influence of both Saturn and Pluto on Mars for most of this month. Defensiveness and impulsive, knee-jerk reactions can result. When retrograde Mercury forms a square to Mars and Saturn on April 4th and 5th we may experience frustrations in communication, especially that having to do with learning or decision-making processes.

Back to the Tarot perspective: the Judeo-Christian idea of the Devil as the personification of evil is light-years away from its interpretation in the Tarot. Certainly the devil – the scapegoat, if you will – is blamed for all of the temptations of sin that lead us to self-destruction and of all the terrible things that can befall us.  If we believe that earthly life – the material world – is our separation from and our estrangement from God (or the Universe, or the realm of Spirit), then surely this card as the representative of that world is scary indeed.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes self-destructive behaviors, “fatal attractions” and obsessions, hysteria and paranoia.

Let’s focus on seeing and embracing both the light and shadow sides which comprise our complete Self. That way, we get a much more positive and beneficial use of the energies of this card.  Spirit embodied in material form is capable of choice, action and creativity.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include indigo, blue-black, black and gray. Add violet, red and brown to bring Capricorn’s strength, endurance and perseverance to your endeavors.

Onyx, jet, garnet and opal worn as jewelry, or carried as power stones will give you an earthy confidence and creative energy.

Lead is this week’s metal.  Not great for wearing, but a good reminder of what to “get out,” especially in areas where our ego or materialistically-based beliefs can weigh us down.

Scent your home, bath and body with snowdrop, rose, pine, musk and patchouli to create positive channels for creativity and determination.  Let’s harness this powerful energy toward beneficial goals this week!

Foods prepared with any of the nightshade family (potatoes, tomatoes, etc.), thyme, allspice, cayenne, garlic, ginger, pepper, and thistle (artichokes!) as well as teas brewed from valerian and comfrey will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Eight of Wands

Weekly Tarotcast™: 3-27-18 through 4-03-18

 Eight of Wands

eightofwands

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Eight of Wands.  This card represents the end of stagnation and delay. Good news is on the way, and it’s coming quickly – communication in all forms is highlighted this week. As far as how quickly news travels? Well, time (and motion) are relative, after all.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life this card represents the formula 8: sephiroth or sphere 8, Hod (meaning Splendor – the sphere of Mercury and the feminized Male), in the suit of Wands, (the element of Fire – Atziluth, the archetypal world; our Will or Spirit in action) plus Mercury in Sagittarius (more on that in a moment) equaling Swiftness.

This card benefits from its astrological influence where ideas or impulses are inspired to rise and expand to serve a higher purpose.

Astrologically, this card represents Mercury in Sagittarius and rules from 0 to 10 degrees Sagittarius or November 23rd to December 2nd, so if your birthday falls on or between these dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. We’ll need to keep eyes and ears open for information that may surprise us, short-term and/or short-distance travel is also a possibility.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is transiting Sagittarius’ fellow Fire-sign Aries (through April 19th).  Usually, Fortune favors the bold and the race goes to the swift while the Sun visits the sign of the Ram.

However, just prior to this forecast period, Mercury stationed retrograde in Aries (through April 15th, when Mercury stations direct once again). We can use this energy best when we focus on independent, courageous thinking; a fresh perspective allows us to see problems, projects and relationships in new ways. The retrograde influence slows down the effects of this week’s card, and the usual retrograde warnings apply – think twice or even three times before speaking or acting, and anticipate delays or missed connections. We may be better off thinking and planning rather than taking action.

Mercury’s transit of Aries lasts through May 13th – a little longer than usual. We’ll have no shortage of big ideas but we can also be impatient and lack sensitivity in our communications.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes stubbornness, over-zealousness, hasty or ill-considered decisions and superficiality.

Let’s focus on flexibility and our intellectual/mental power – including the power to analyze and adjust to make the most of this week’s positive possibilities.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include yellow, purple, grey, indigo and violet for Mercury as well as blue, yellow and green for Sagittarius.

Diamond, jade, jasper, topaz, aquamarine and sapphire worn as jewelry, or carried as power stones will enhance the benefits of Mercury and Sagittarius’s swift communication this week – and keep us adaptable to changes in the pace of events.

Mercury and zinc are this week’s metals.  Neither is wearable, both are good reminders of adaptability and the strength of good connections and combinations.

Scent your home, bath and body with carnation, iris, valerian, lilac, lavender and vervain to stay clear-headed and intellectually sharp.  We’ll be energetic, vigilant and optimistic while we attend to the demands and details of the week.

Foods prepared with sage, parsley, dill, rosemary, lemongrass, mace, and peppermint or tea brewed from peppermint, will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: The Tower

Weekly Tarotcast™: 3-20-18 through 3-27-18

 The Tower

16-TheTower

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Tower.  OUCH! This week we’ll be experiencing disruption and destruction – and the harder we try to hold on to the status quo, the more difficult it will be.  Tearing down is phase one of rebuilding and what appears to be a catastrophe can be transformed into something better. The Tower shows us that things must be torn down (or fall apart) before we can begin to build anew.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life this card travels Path 27, joining sephiroth or sphere 7, Netzach (meaning Victory) with sephiroth or sphere 8, Hod (meaning Splendor).  Its Hebrew Letter is Pe’ (meaning “mouth”).  The mouth is how we speak words, express thoughts, and sometimes breathe – and a very large, fanged mouth is shown on the card. In the order of the Hebrew alphabet, Pe’ follows the letter Ayin (meaning “eye”); lo and behold, a large eye crowns this card. Jewish mystics believed that the eye is the doorway to reality, and the mouth brings reality into being. The word of God creates. The Hindu God Shiva is the God of destruction – and to destroy, he need only open his eye.

Spheres 7 and 8 are opposite each other on the tree, and are two sides of the same coin. They depict equal but opposite errors and as polar opposites, denote weakness. When united, they cancel each other out – effective as a metaphor for the kind of annihilation we’re talking about when we talk Tower energy.

Astrologically, this card is the planetary trump of Mars in all his aggressive, violent glory.  Change is coming by any means necessary, and much as we may dislike, fear or resist it; without change everything would fall into stagnation and ruin without rejuvenation.

In real-time astrology, the Sun enters Mars-ruled, Fire-sign Aries on March 20th – starting the astrological New Year and bringing the Spring Equinox. On a positive note this energy can be assertive rather than aggressive and if used wisely, brings needed change. Destruction of the old can be controlled with a minimum of collateral damage.

Just prior to this forecast period on March 17th, Mars entered Earth-sign Capricorn (through May 16th).  Under this influence we approach the pursuit of our goals in structured, well-planned ways. We may find it easier to manage our energy and set a deliberate pace toward achieving our desires. This is a very positive positioning of Mars as it is exalted in the sign of Capricorn.

On March 22nd Mercury retrogrades in Aries (through April 15th). We can use this energy best when we focus on our independence and courage; we can use a fresh perspective to see problems, projects and relationships in new ways.

Mercury’s transit of Aries lasts through May 13th – a little longer than usual. We’ll have no shortage of bold ideas but we can also be impatient and lack sensitivity in our communications. Combined with the energy of this week’s card, the usual retrograde warnings apply – think twice or even three times before speaking or acting, and anticipate delays or missed connections.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes blind destruction and a lust for ruin – trashing everything just for the sake of watching it all fall apart without respect for the cycles of which destruction is only one step or phase.

Let’s focus on overcoming the obstacles of outmoded thinking and action, and the enlightenment that comes when new ideas and inspirations strike us like a lightning-bolt of truth.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include scarlet, red, azure and emerald.

Ruby, bloodstone and garnet worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will help us channel Mars’ strength without the martial violence this week.

Iron is this week’s metal – not great for wearing but a great reminder of strength and endurance.

Scent your home, bath and body with rose, pine and tobacco (no, you don’t have to smoke it) to further enhance feelings of enlightenment, sharp, clear perception of the truth and the constancy of change this week.

Foods prepared with allspice cayenne, garlic, ginger, pepper and thistle (think artichokes!), or chasing the Green Fairy thanks to the wormwood in absinthe (in moderation of course) will provide the same beneficial effects.
