Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Eight of Swords

Weekly Tarotcast™:  5-23-17 through 5-30-17

 Eight of Swords

EightofSwords

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Eight of Swords.  The suit of Swords can be challenging since it represents disruption and conflict. On the positive side, it also represents analysis, intellect and ideas.  We can use the positive qualities of the Eight of Swords to understand that when we change our thoughts, we change our feelings and beliefs – and we can change our lives!  I love the Wayne Dyer quote, “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” The positive aspects of the Eight of Swords embody this idea beautifully.

The Eights of the Minor Arcana evaluate, organize, reason and communicate for their respective suits and elements. Their energy may lack harmony, but they can restore symmetry and balance. The eights bring justice, karmic balancing or rebalancing, order and structure along with the limitations and boundaries of those states.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life this card represents the formula 8:  sephiroth or sphere 8, Hod (meaning Splendor, the sphere of Mercury and the feminized Yang) in the suit of Swords (Yetzirah, the formative world; the element of Air – our intellect, thoughts and mental activity) plus Jupiter in Gemini (more on that in a moment) equaling “Interference.”

Astrologically, this card symbolizes Jupiter in Gemini and rules from 0 to 10 degrees Gemini, or May 21st through May 31st so if your birthday falls on or between those dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. The message of this card is that things are not as bad as they look.

Hod is the sphere of Mercury – its home sphere, you might say – and Mercury rules Gemini.  Adding Jupiter to the mix brings an element of luck, especially in intellectual pursuits.  However, as with all of the Eights, the influence of Hod causes this card to suffer from imbalance. Hod tends to be the “wet blanket” on all prevailing energies. Even with (mostly) good luck and a good outlook, we can still experience setbacks, delays or the proverbial “fly in the ointment.”  Since fighting is what Swords are all about, we’re not much good when the “fight” has been knocked out of us. But – it’s temporary.

In real-time astrology, the Sun entered Air-sign Gemini on May 20th and we will experience a New Moon in Gemini on May 25th.  With this New Moon, we learn by simply indulging our natural curiosity – and we improve both our people skills and communication skills by doing so.  We’re more other-oriented and open-minded during this forecast period. This energy harmonizes nicely with the energy of this week’s card.

Jupiter is retrograde in Gemini’s fellow Air-sign, Libra (through June 9th). During this retrograde, we’ve had plenty of opportunity to benefit from unexpected good luck and may even have come to, well…expect it. This energy also highlights the more positive aspects of this week’s card, and is a strong reminder about how much of our emotional response to situations depends on our perspective. “Positive” really is in the eye of the beholder.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes confusion, fuzzy thinking, fear of the unknown and crippling uncertainty.  When we believe a situation is impossible or that we have no options, those thoughts become self-fulfilling prophecies.

Let’s focus on the ability to look at the ways we hold ourselves back. Taking the longer view can help us gain a fresh perspective on any situation or relationship. It will free us up and move us forward.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include violet, blue, purple, and yellow as well as silver and pale gray.

Diamond, jade, agate, topaz, sapphire and amethyst worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will counteract feelings of “stuck-ness”, restlessness and absent-mindedness.

Mercury and tin are this week’s metals – while neither is really wearable, their properties can remind us that a positive boost to our mental energy will help us make good choices and avoid getting bogged down in self-criticism.

Scent your home, bath and body with fern, iris, carnation, heliotrope, cedar and honeysuckle to stay clear-minded and look for fresh viewpoints this week.

Foods prepared with parsley, dill, clove, sage, anise, cinnamon, mint and nutmeg will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Ten of Wands

Weekly Tarotcast™:  5-16-17 through 5-23-17

 Ten of Wands

TenofWands

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Ten of Wands.  This week’s energy is a warning against many things – all of which represent the ways in which we imprison ourselves in cages of our own design. This can include anything from workaholism to taking on burdens that aren’t ours to bear.  Personal responsibility is important, but so are boundaries. Taking on the responsibilities that rightly belong to others can lead to feelings of resentment because we’re playing the martyr.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, this card represents the formula 10: sephiroth or sphere 10, Malkuth (meaning Kingdom – sphere of Earth and the full materialization of energy) in the suit of Wands (the element of Fire – Atziluth, the archetypal world; our Will or Spirit in action) plus Saturn in Sagittarius (more on that in a moment) equaling Oppression.

Frankly, this is not the most pleasant energy around.  Since all of the tens of the Minor Arcana cards are in the sephiroth of Malkuth on the tree of life, this lowest sephiroth represents the material world, and is the position in which all the elements (in this case Fire) expend their energy in its grossest, and often most destructive form.

Astrologically this card represents Saturn in Sagittarius, and rules from 20 to 30 degrees Sagittarius, or December 13th to December 21st so if your birthday falls on or between these dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. Sagittarius is the most ethereal of the fire signs – Saturn’s oppressive, repressive, heavy iron boots can be freedom-loving Sagittarius’ worst nightmare realized.

In real-time astrology, Saturn is retrograde, completing its 2 ½ year transit of Fire-sign Sagittarius from September 17th, 2015 through December 20th, 2017.

Saturn’s retrograde further slows down a planet that normally moves slowly, but this can allow effective methods and strategies time to develop. However when combined with sometimes impetuous Sag energy, this can also cause frustration. If properly used, this energy can be great for establishing and honoring boundaries – and give us an unerring education in how and when to say “no!”

On May 19th, Saturn trines Uranus in Sagittarius’s fellow Fire-sign, Aries. These energies are normally opposite – with Saturn representing authority and tradition while Uranus is progressive and rebellious. However, during this forecast period the trine aspect can be the “spoonful of sugar” that helps the medicine go down. Even if that’s not in the most delightful way, it’s a lot more palatable than it could be.

This energy can be felt as a revival, a change in perspective that allows us to take old ideas or plans and look at them with fresh eyes.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card abounds – fixation, obsession, repression and oppression are rife. So are inflexible attitudes and beliefs and the idea of a punishing, vengeful God.

Let’s focus on what positives are available, mainly the strength to persevere and the use of slow, structured growth to push past our internal obstacles.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include yellow, indigo, black, blue and green.

Sapphire, emerald and topaz enhance the light, mobile energy of Sagittarius while obsidian, garnet, onyx and jet represent Saturn’s grounding force.  This week wearing either (but not in combination) as jewelry or carried as power stones will keep us moving forward slowly but surely and keep our boundaries securely in place.

Tin and lead are this week’s metals.  Neither is good for wearing, but can be good reminders of the strength to be found when we combine our efforts in positive alliances.

Scent your home, bath and body with carnation, sage, valerian, comfrey, musk, patchouli, slippery elm, thyme, and witch hazel to enhance any of the positives available this week.

Foods prepared with thyme and sage, or teas brewed from valerian or comfrey will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Fortune

Weekly Tarotcast™:  5-09-17 through 5-16-17

 Fortune

10-Fortune

The weekly Tarotcast card is Fortune (known as the Wheel of Fortune in many decks).  We’ll be experiencing a lot of changes this week. The traditional interpretation of this card is good luck. That’s only partially true – this is the card of our luck – or fortunes – changing: that can mean if our fortunes have been bad, they’re likely to change for the better. But if they’ve been good, the wheel is turning, so it’s a good idea to watch out for obstacles or pitfalls. This card can represent the risk-taker; one who is willing to gamble on an opportunity, not necessarily certain of the result, but able to turn a lucky break to his or her own advantage.

The card symbolizes the only constant in our lives: change. No matter the current situation, remember that it is not forever. The Wheel turns; the cycle changes and progresses; and all that is now will pass away, giving birth to new experiences, circumstances and connections.

This card also represents the Wheel of Karma; there is a feeling that events coming to pass are beyond our control. Understand that whatever is occurring has been created by our deeds and thoughts.  The law of Karma operates independently of the concept of blind luck. On the kabalistic Tree of Life this card travels path 21, joining sephiroth or sphere 4, Chesed (meaning Mercy) to sephiroth or sphere 7, Netzach (meaning Victory).  Its Hebrew letter is Kaph, meaning the palm of the hand, and this is an apt image for either the fortune we’re born with (as the art of palmistry would read what is written in the lines found there) or the fortune we make through the things we do and the actions we take – what we create through our own efforts.

Astrologically, this card is the planetary trump of Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system. This is the planet of expansion – bigger, better, more.

In real time astrology, Jupiter is retrograde in Air-sign Libra.  Jupiter retrograde can be extremely beneficial. This energy draws us inward and helps us to consider things from perspectives other than our own. If you have delayed making a difficult decision, or if it’s time to reevaluate your personal life, relationships or career, Jupiter retro can be an undisguised blessing.

Immediately following this forecast period, Jupiter is quincunx Neptune in Pisces on May 17th. This is the second formation of this aspect (the first occurred on October 23rd last year) and the third will occur July 4th this year.

This is a challenging time for honoring limits and boundaries. We’re likely to be more disorganized and have trouble following a routine. We may find ourselves restless and dissatisfied. Watch out for the tendency to take the easy way out, or any other escapist tendencies; it’s better to take clear-minded and well-considered action.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes feelings of fatalism, disempowerment and a perceived lack of control over our own course in life.

Let’s focus on the positives, which promise that we can always roll with the inevitable changes that come naturally in life, and that we can gain greater awareness when we transcend polarity (good/bad, up/down, light/dark, etc.)

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include violet, bright blue, purple and yellow.

Sapphire, amethyst or diamond worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will keep you feeling optimistic and help you take educated and informed “risks.”

This week’s metal is tin – not great for wearing, but often used to improve the strength and flexibility of other metals. So, it’s a good reminder of the powers of adaptation and transformation.

Scent your home, bath and body with poppy and honeysuckle to use Jupiter’s expansive energy to your benefit; recognize opportunities and take some intelligent risks.

Foods prepared with mint, clove, cinnamon, nutmeg and sage will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Ten of Disks

Weekly Tarotcast™:  5-02-17 through 5-09-17

 Ten of Disks

TenofDisks

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Ten of Disks (this suit is also called Pentacles or Coins). This week’s energy is focused on financial prosperity as well as building on a firm foundation for our personal and family life.  Materially, we find ways to grow our assets and resources. We also find creative ways to put money to good use through wise investing or smart budgeting.

This is the very last Tarot card – the point at which spirit manifests fully as matter, and the point which signals the reintegration of matter into spirit. It is a complete picture of the cycle of regeneration. Unlike any of the other small cards including the Tens of the other suits, the Ten of Disks has a unique mission. From the very bottom of the cosmos, it must somehow link to the innermost secret of creation and reincarnate at the very top of the Tarot cycle. Its job is to regenerate the world.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, this card represents the formula 10:  sephiroth or sphere 10, Malkuth (meaning Kingdom – the material world) in the suit of Disks (the element of Earth, Assiah – our physical bodies, and material assets or resources) plus Mercury in Virgo (more on that in a moment) equaling Wealth.

Astrologically this card corresponds to Mercury in Virgo.  It rules from 20 to 30 degrees Virgo, or September 12th through September 22nd, so if your birthday falls on or between those dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. Many people forget that Mercury also rules the sign of Virgo (as well as Gemini). Mercury’s creativity and cleverness are turned to practical and productive endeavors in Virgo, so our own intelligence and willingness to work smarter rather than harder reaps big rewards this week.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is transiting Virgo’s fellow Earth-sign, Taurus. This transit harmonizes nicely with this week’s Tarot card and is a positive influence during this forecast period.

Having spent part of its retrograde in Taurus, Mercury turns direct in Aries on May 3rd. Mercury rules Virgo (and Gemini) and despite the usual retro caveats, this has been an exceptionally good retrograde period for shaking off old beliefs or outmoded mindsets that no longer serve us.

Jupiter retrograde in Libra is quintile Saturn retrograde in Sagittarius on May 3rd which indicates that we can grow and expand in a controlled, disciplined way during this forecast period. Our responsibilities and obligations can be handled with a combination of both style and substance.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes greed for money and material possessions; it also indicates a lack of understanding of the connection between the physical and the spiritual worlds.

Let’s focus on discovering the value of everyday things and understanding that abundance is more than how much money we have in our wallets or our bank accounts.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include yellow, purple, grey and indigo for Mercury as well as green and plum for Virgo.

Carnelian, jade and jasper worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will help us feel comfortable, secure and generous.

This week’s metals are platinum (how’s that for feeling rich?) and of course Mercury – which can’t be worn or handled safely. Wear platinum if you’re lucky enough to own it; or mindfully aspire to it – you never know what you can attract until you try.

Scent your home, bath and body with valerian, lavender, lily of the valley and lilac to bring a sense of abundant well-being into your environment.

Foods prepared with rosemary, parsley, dill, peppermint and lemongrass will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Nine of Cups

Weekly Tarotcast™:  4-25-17 through 5-02-17

Nine of Cups

NineofCups

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Nine of Cups. This is one of the happiest, most positive and optimistic cards in the deck, especially in all matters emotional, including romantic love!

Is everybody happy? You bet! This week is a great time to get centered, smile and celebrate while enjoying the pleasures and comforts of the very best things life has to offer.  This card is the big “YES” – so be prepared to say yes to just about anything this week, and be prepared for the big “YES”  in terms of good things coming your way.

The Nines of the Minor Arcana bring things toward a conclusion. They represent integration, fulfillment and attainment for their respective suits and elements, in this case Cups and Water energy. Social and sensual pleasures are still enjoyed in moderation, desires are satisfied and contentment reigns.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, this card represents the formula 9: sephiroth or sphere 9, Yesod (meaning Foundation – sphere of Luna, where energy crystallizes) in the suit of Cups (Briah, the Creative world; the element of Water – our heart and emotions) plus Jupiter in Pisces (more on that in a moment) equaling Happiness.

Astrologically, this card represents Jupiter in Pisces, and rules from 10 to 20 degrees Pisces, or March 1st through March 10th, so if your birthday falls on or between those dates you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. Jupiter’s knack for enjoying the good life and “bigger, better, more” energy is right at home in the mutable water sign of the Fish, where things are comfortable and cozy.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is in Earth-sign Taurus – a sign that knows plenty about sensual pleasures. The New Moon in Taurus on April 26th finds us finds us taking charge of providing for our own security and sense of safety. The material aspects of our lives take center stage as we decide what we truly value, what brings us true happiness and fulfillment. This is a great time to reconnect with nature, to honor our physical bodies, and to enjoy the world of the five physical senses.

Mercury remains retrograde in Earth-sign Taurus (through May 3rd). This energy is excellent for identifying our needs for security and comfort and it’s also perfect for reviewing financial matters and business commitments. Old projects may have newly-discovered value, and we revive them with a fresh perspective and enthusiasm.

Both of these transits complement the energy of this forecast period and can enhance the prevailing energy if used wisely.

Jupiter is currently retrograde in Air-sign Libra (through June 9th). Jupiter retro can actually bring us good luck, although it may come from an unexpected source or an area previously overlooked in our lives.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes conceit and vanity. Avoid being gullible.  Check your “Too Good to Be True” Meter, because if something really IS too good to be true you’ll want to take a pass.

Let’s focus on sharing our good fortune and positive news with others and allowing them to share theirs with us! Stay receptive and be ready to say “YES” – accept affirmatives into your life this week.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include sea-green, blue, purple, violet and white.

Of course, there couldn’t be a better time to listen to music that makes you want to dance, sing, or – if you’re feeling too shy for those, just lifts your spirits high! How about Pharrell Williams’ “Happy?” or “Don’t Worry, Be Happy?” The word “happy” doesn’t even have to be in the title. One of my all-time favorites (and a song I lovingly describe as the happiest flippin’ song in the world) is “Jackie Wilson Said” by Van Morrison. Whatever works for you.

Amethyst, aquamarine, sapphire, emerald or topaz worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will help us to clarify and manifest what makes us happy and serves our highest good.

Tin is this week’s metal, not great for wearing – but a strong alloy (and ally) for strength and flexibility.

Scent your home, bath and body with musk, lavender, jasmine, heliotrope, carnation, opium poppy, cedar, honeysuckle and hyssop to feel love, happiness and optimism; to awaken Pisces gentle, loving nature and to radiate Jupiter’s noble power.

Foods prepared with clove, sage, anise, cinnamon, nutmeg and mint especially in liquids (soups, teas) and in all types of desserts and sweets will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: The Priestess

Weekly Tarotcast™:  4-18-17 through 4-25-17

 The Priestess

2-ThePriestess

The weekly Tarotcast card is The Priestess, also known as The High Priestess. Our intuition and inspiration will be flowing freely this week. The Priestess is the embodiment of feminine consciousness – she is the Yin principle and she guards the gate of the unconscious.  Her purity and virginity are spiritual rather than physical, and her veil – like a bridal veil – can be lifted only by the initiate of the Light.

Her invitation to us this week is to look within for our answers, she knows but doesn’t tell. Our ability to unravel mysteries and discover information that’s been hidden or held in secret will be enhanced this week. This doesn’t mean we get to pry or spy; rather, by tapping into our own psychic abilities, intuition and dreams, and trusting what we see and feel with our inner senses, answers come to us and enlighten us.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, the High Priestess travels Path 13, joining sephiroth or sphere 1, Kether (meaning the Crown) to sephiroth or sphere 6, Tiphareth (meaning Beauty).  Its Hebrew letter is Gimel which means “camel”.  Think that’s odd? Symbolically, the Priestess traverses the Abyss – the desert of the soul. Just like the camel crossing the physical desert, she is the only creature capable of successfully crossing the wasteland.

Astrologically this card is the planetary trump of the Moon, and represents the Moon in its highest aspect – the aspect that joins the human to the divine.

In real-time astrology, the Sun enters Earth-sign Taurus on April 19th.  This transit harmonizes nicely with this week’s card. Although this isn’t the best time to engage in radical change, we can look within to find the best ways to expand on what we already know and already have. We can cultivate a special appreciation for the aspects of our lives that sustain and support us, and provide a lasting foundation on which to build and grow.

Just following this forecast period, on April 26th the New Moon in Taurus finds us taking charge of providing for our own security and sense of safety. The material aspects of our lives take center stage as we decide what we truly value, what brings us happiness and fulfillment.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes falling into illusions, phoniness and escape from reality. Lunar energy – like lunar light – can be deceptive and seductive if we’re careless or trust our physical vision only.

Let’s focus on openness and receptivity while maintaining an awareness that not everything is as it appears on the surface; and let’s remember to process information wisely rather than accepting anything at face value.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include silver, pearlescent white and cool, pale blue.

Chalcedony, clear crystals, opals or moonstones worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will enhance our psychic and intuitive abilities this week and help us see clearly to the truth of the matters at hand.

Silver is this week’s metal.  Wear it for its clear, bright light – silver is one of the most reflective of all precious metals, is the “whitest” of them, and is also the most electrically conductive. Think about all of that in conjunction with the Priestess’ energy, and you’ll have a powerful week ahead.

Scent your home, bath and body with poppy, lily, white rose, gardenia, jasmine, lotus flower, myrrh and sandalwood to purify and cleanse mind, body and spirit and to invite clear inner vision.

Foods prepared with coconut, lotus root, poppy seeds, cloves and wintergreen (mint) as well as tea brewed with jasmine will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: The Empress

Weekly Tarotcast™:  4-11-17 through 4-18-17

 The Empress

3-TheEmpress

The weekly Tarotcast card is The Empress. We may experience strong urges to nurture and share this week. We find ourselves and others more open, receptive and compassionate.  Enjoy your home, have a party, serve comfort foods and indulge in rich desserts.  All activities centered on help and support – especially of children and animals, are favored with success.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life this card travels Path 14, joining sephiroth or sphere 2, Chokmah (meaning Wisdom) to sephiroth or sphere 3, Binah (meaning Understanding).  Its Hebrew letter is Daleth (which means “door”) and a woman’s body is the door through which we all pass when we enter this life.

Astrologically, this card is the Planetary trump of Venus. She is woman in all her many forms. Fertility is highlighted – in every sense of that word. New ideas, planting and gardening, seed money for investment or projects, and even news of pregnancy all present positive possibilities in the coming week.

In real-time astrology, April 11th brings us a Full Moon in Air-sign Libra. This moon phase perfectly matches and enhances the energy of this week’s card and starts off this forecast period on a high note. This Full Moon in the sign of good luck, conjunct the planet of good luck (Jupiter) may find us feeling an unexpected and unexplainable wave of happiness and contentment.

On April 15th Venus turns direct, having entered Water-sign Pisces back on April 2nd. We may have been reviewing our relationships and our finances, questioning the value and quality of what we give and receive. We may be retracing our steps right along with the Goddess of Love and Beauty – the challenge may be finding the clarity we need since Pisces’ energy can be both elusive and illusive.

Mercury remains retrograde in Earth-sign Taurus (co-ruled along with Libra by Venus – through May 3rd). Take special care in your communications, expect the unexpected and plan for delays or last-minute changes when traveling. We may also find we’re more clumsy or accident-prone, so use extra caution navigating your physical surroundings also.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes over-indulgence in sensual pleasures (alcohol, drugs, sex, even food), wallowing in self-indulgence to the point of egotism or narcissism, vanity, laziness and envy of others.

Let’s focus on the best energy of this card – embracing the power of the feminine principle (no matter whether we’re female or male). We can find comfort and strength inside our own skins, celebrate our bodies, and our Mother Earth.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors for this week include emerald green, sky blue, bright rose pink, and pale spring green.

Emeralds, opals, jade, sapphire and lapis worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will help us to nurture others and take compassionate action this week, a good balance for pampering ourselves.

Copper is this week metal. Since copper is supposed to have healing properties, this is a great week to see how it works for you.

Scent your home, bath and body with violet, wild rose, bergamot, hibiscus, magnolia, plumeria, rose, strawberry and vanilla to enhance the balance of self-care and other-care.  For a treat, take a candle-lit bath using pink candles and natural mineral salts – you’ll be channeling the positive energy of the Empress in just a few relaxing minutes!

Foods prepared with apples, strawberries and vanilla or teas brewed from rose hips or hibiscus will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Three of Swords

Weekly Tarotcast™:  4-04-17 through 4-11-17

 Three of Swords

ThreeofSwords

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Three of Swords.  This is difficult and challenging energy in a difficult and challenging suit. Most often this card is interpreted as worldly sorrows – loss through separation or death, the end of a relationship, or even a serious illness that causes us suffering.  Often we can’t begin to heal until the source of the suffering or disease is removed. The energy of this card reveals that all things come to an end, but also that all things pass, even profound grief.

The Threes of the Minor Arcana represent the form, structure and the first results or manifestations of their respective elements. They show the effects of energy in action within their suit and element. They bring a perspective, a viewpoint and an understanding of events and situations. The threes show our first attempts at resolution and unification after the polarization and duality of the twos.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life this card represents the formula 3:  sephiroth or sphere 3, Binah (meaning Understanding – supreme Feminine energy, or Yin, also the sphere of Saturn) in the suit of Swords (Yetzirah, the formative world and the element of Air – our mental and intellectual processes) plus Saturn in Libra (more on that in a moment) equaling Sorrow.

From the kabbalistic point of view, the Three of Swords represents a higher consciousness than that which we can easily access in our day-to-day world. Think of the consciousness of worldly suffering that transformed Siddhartha into the Buddha – and the energy becomes transcendent, a higher perception illuminating the path to enlightenment.

Astrologically, this card represents Saturn in Libra and rules from 10 to 20 degrees Libra, or October 3rd to October 12th, so if your birthday falls on or between these dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us.  We may experience a sense of loss during this forecast period but it is more likely that we will feel sadness over something intangible and undefinable.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is transiting Fire-sign Aries (Libra’s polar opposite sign on the wheel of the zodiac). On April 6th Saturn retrogrades in in Aries’ fellow Fire-sign Sagittarius, testing our determination and strength of purpose, as well as our spiritual and philosophical beliefs. Keep your promises to complete any projects or fulfill any responsibilities you’ve already taken on. This is not a good time to add any new obligations.

On April 9th, Mercury retrogrades in Earth-sign Taurus (co-ruled along with Libra by Venus). All the usual warnings about Merc retro apply – be cautious in your communications and avoid signing contracts or taking on new projects if you possibly can. We may also find we’re more clumsy or accident-prone, so take care in your physical surroundings also.

April 11th brings us a Full Moon in Air-sign Libra. This moon phase smiles on us like a cosmic gift despite all of the challenging energy in this forecast period. A Full Moon in the sign of good luck, conjunct the planet of good luck (Jupiter) may find us feeling an unexpected and unexplainable wave of happiness and contentment as this forecast period draws to a close.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes self-delusion, self-pity and the belief that our pain, misery or loss is the “worst in the world”.

Let’s focus on the fact that with insight, we can realize that the things we are “losing” are actually old or erroneous beliefs and perceptions, or situations and relationships we’ve long outgrown. Painful though it may be, it might be even more painful to remain in illusion, helplessness and blindness.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors for this week include dark brown, black and blue-black (for Saturn).  Balance these with Libra colors – emerald green, deep blue-green and sky blue to combine these energies as harmoniously as possible.

Onyx, garnet, opal and sapphire worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will give us a sense of grounding and the ability to look past our immediate circumstances to the near future.

Copper and lead are this week’s metals – wear the copper and let the lead remind you of what to “get out” in order to move through and past temporarily limiting circumstances.

Scent your home, bath and body with violet, rose, musk, patchouli and valerian to balance Saturn’s heavy energy with the ethereal spirit of Libra.

Foods prepared with thyme as well as tea brewed from comfrey will provide the same beneficial effects.

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Eight of Disks.  This suit is also called Pentacles or Coins. This card symbolizes order, self-discipline, attention to detail, and the benefits of knowing when to watch and wait, to wait and see. A stable, secure foundation is established, upon which one can build as needed when the time is right.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, this card represents the formula 8: sephiroth or sphere 8, Hod (meaning Splendor, sphere of Mercury and the feminized Male) in the suit of Disks (the element of Earth – Assiah, the material world; our physical bodies, assets and resources) plus the Sun in Virgo (more on that in a moment) equaling Prudence.

The Eights of the minor Arcana evaluate, organize, reason and communicate for their respective suits and elements. The eights bring justice, karmic balancing or rebalancing, order and structure within limitations and boundaries. Like their counterparts the Sevens, their position on the Tree of Life is somewhat weak and unbalanced. So where’d all this balanced energy in the Eight of Disks come from? It gets its unique benefits from its astrological correspondence.

Astrologically, this card symbolizes the Sun in Virgo and rules from 0 to 10 degrees Virgo, or August 23rd to September 1st, so if your birthday falls on or between those dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us.  The Sun in Virgo brings a positive and stabilizing energy into this card since often in material matters – whether business ventures or gardening – there is an inherent benefit in knowing when to do nothing – to simply plant the seeds and wait.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is transiting Fire-sign Aries. This week’s card would seem to be in opposition to Aries’ action-oriented, sometimes impulsive nature. But along with knowing when to wait, this week’s card also encompasses knowing when to take appropriate, considered (some might say calculated) action.

On March 30th Jupiter square Pluto. Since the tendency with this configuration is to push too hard and to overlook important details, it’s important to temper these urges with the positive aspects available during this forecast period. It’s ok to think big – just don’t forget about the practical details.

Mercury (Virgo’s ruling planet) enters Virgo’s fellow Earth-sign, Taurus on March 31st. This energy brings solid, practical ideas to the mix and reinforces the influence of this week’s card. Mercury will retrograde on April 9th, the beginning of the new forecast period. Be prepared.

On April 2nd Venus retrograde enters Water-sign Pisces (Virgo’s polar opposite on the wheel of the zodiac). Be especially careful – since Venus rules finances as well as love and partnerships), we’ll want to make sure that our assets and resources are being well-managed and protected.

Finally, on April 6th when Saturn turns retrograde, it’s a good time to reaffirm commitments, assess projects and reorganize if needed, and keep our promises to complete any projects or fulfill any responsibilities we’ve already taken on. This is not a good time to add anything to an already-full schedule.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes over-attention to detail and missing the big picture, manipulation of people or situations to gain an unfair advantage, and paralysis through extended inaction.

Let’s focus on practicality and getting our house spiritually and physically in order this week.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include orange, red, golden yellow, amber, slate gray, green and plum.

Carnelian, jade, jasper, amber, diamond and topaz worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will help us find order, organization and balance.

Gold and platinum are this week’s metals.  Wear ‘em if you’ve got ‘em!

Scent your home, bath and body with orange, cinnamon, clove, rosemary, valerian, heliotrope, mistletoe, cedar, and frankincense to balance mind, body and spirit this week.

Foods prepared with galangal, orange, rosemary, cinnamon, clove, sunflower seeds or oil, hops (beer!) and juniper (gin!) will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: The Hanged Man

Weekly Tarotcast™:  3-21-17 through 3-28-17

 The Hanged Man

12-TheHangedMan

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Hanged Man. This week we’re invited to gain a new perspective, perhaps by turning the familiar, routine and status-quo point of view on its head. This card is no less than a depiction of surrendering the ego to gain enlightenment, and that’s pretty “heady” stuff indeed. We get “stuck” or “hung up” when we are trapped in the material world, forgetting that we are a part of the Divine – we are the Universe and the Universe is us.

When Aleister Crowley and Lady Frieda Harris were working together to create the Thoth Tarot (the deck I use), Crowley attempted with this card to “try to explain the innermost secret of life and all the mysteries of High Magick and the Universe in general,” (DuQuette, Lon Milo). No small endeavor!

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, the Hanged Man travels Path 23, joining sephiroth or sphere 5, Geburah (meaning Severity) to sephiroth or sphere 8, Hod (meaning Splendor).  This is Major Arcana card number 12, and its Hebrew letter is Mem (meaning water).  Here water is flowing, cleansing and purifying – as in baptism and other rituals of rebirth.

Astrologically this card is the elemental trump of – you guessed it – Water.  Water always seeks its own level – and represents the emotions. It is arguably the strongest element and is the birthplace of earthly life. Just over 70% of the earth’s surface is water, and up to 60% of the human body is water, with our brains being composed of 70% water.  Do you feel a sudden need to use the bathroom?

In real-time astrology, the Sun just ended its transit of Water-sign Pisces and entered Fire-sign Aries on March 20th (the spring equinox). We’ll also experience a New Moon in Aries on March 27th. During this transit, action-oriented, go-go Aries energy seeks to show the world a pure, innocently honest face to the world. There is a strong urge to act on impulse (hopefully constructive) – fearlessly and without any filters. Using this energy to best advantage during this forecast period, we are confident, self-reliant, strong and charming.

This week activity is focused in a Cardinal Fire sign, opposing – or balancing, depending on your outlook – the Water element. I think this week’s energy is about restoring balance. Essential to every living thing on earth, wherever water goes – through the air, the earth, or through our bodies’ metabolic (fiery!) furnace – it carries along valuable chemicals, minerals, and nutrients.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes being at a standstill, feeling stuck or resistant to change, and unenlightened self-sacrifice.

Let’s focus on finding redemption and losing the bonds of our ego-selves this week.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include deep blue, sea green, deep olive green, gray, indigo, white and flecked or speckled purple.

Aquamarine, amethyst, blue tourmaline, pearl, coral, blue topaz, lapis and sodalite worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will help us with new perspectives and give us the ability to embrace change by transcending our limitations.

Mercury, silver and copper are this week’s metals, so there are at least two wearable choices to remind us that change is the one constant in life.

Scent your home, bath and body with gardenia, lemon, lilac, lily of the valley, lotus, rose and valerian to relax the physical body and free the spiritual one this week.

Foods prepared with apple, lemon, lettuce, lotus root, thyme and seaweed (sushi!) as well as tea made from chamomile will provide the same beneficial effects.
