Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Ace of Wands

Weekly Tarotcast®: 6-27-17 through 7-04-17

 Ace of Wands

AceofWands

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Ace of Wands.  This week we’ll be experiencing bursts of creativity, enthusiasm, vitality and assertiveness. The Ace of Wands represents the root of the powers of the Fire element: Yang (masculine energy), creativity, passion, courage, risk-taking, initiative and active drive.

All of the Aces of the Tarot can be a bit confusing, especially since they actually have a closer bond with the Princesses (Pages) of each suit (Wands, Cups, Swords, Disks) than they do with cards 2 through 10 of their respective suits. This card has the Princess of Wands as its Throne, and together with her, rules the Cancer-Leo-Virgo celestial quadrant above the North Pole as well as the continent of Asia.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life this card represents the 1st sephiroth or sphere of Kether (the Crown, origin) through the element of Fire – the first spark of creation (Atziluth) the Father of the creative idea and the process by which energy begins its journey into manifestation in the material world.

Astrologically, for interpretive purposes, it incorporates the energy, qualities and characteristics of the three Fire signs – bravery (Aries), generosity (Leo) and optimism (Sagittarius).

This card represents the possibilities for expansion, creativity, adventure, inspiration and positive action.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is in Water-sign Cancer, Fire-sign Leo’s next door neighbor. Just following this forecast period, Mercury enters Leo on July 5th.  This transit highlights focused concentration, will power and strength. If some of the pitfalls of this energy are well-managed, creativity and fresh ideas can spark a project or plan.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes arrogance, over-confidence, failure through over-ambition, or destruction through aggression.

Let’s focus on new beginnings, movement, development and optimistic exploration of future potential.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include all of the brilliant iridescence reflected from pure white light, especially the colors of flame and sunshine: red, red-orange, yellow and gold.

Fire opal, ruby, carnelian, garnet, red jasper, bloodstone, quartz crystal, tiger’s eye, rhodochrosite and agate worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will enhance our fiery passions and creativity this week.

Gold and brass are this week’s metals – wear them with pride, but not arrogance!

Scent your home, bath and body with hibiscus, red poppy, citrus scents such as orange and lime, juniper and cinnamon for feelings of optimism about the future and to recognize new opportunities.

Foods prepared with allspice, basil, cinnamon, oranges, limes, garlic, onion and red peppers (spicy – how about some Thai, Cajun or Caribbean food!) will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Eight of Cups

Weekly Tarotcast™:  6-20-17 through 6-27-17

Eight of Cups

EightofCups

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Eight of Cups.  This is not the cheeriest of the cup cards, but does indicate leaving the past behind and walking away from situations and relationships we’ve outgrown, been disappointed with, or that have simply reached their natural conclusion.  While those actions might be painful, they are often necessary for our further development and can be viewed as positive  – or at least a move in a more positive direction.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, this card represents the formula 8:  sephiroth or sphere 8, Hod (meaning Splendor – which deals with illusions, imbalance and weakness of the Yang or masculine energy) in the suit of Cups (Briah – the Creative world, the element of Water, our emotions) plus Saturn in Pisces (more on that in a moment) equaling Indolence.

The Eights of the Minor Arcana evaluate, organize, reason and communicate for their respective suits and elements. Their energy may lack harmony, but they can restore symmetry and balance. The eights bring justice, karmic balancing or rebalancing, order and structure along with the limitations and boundaries of those states.

Astrologically, this card represents Saturn in Pisces and rules from 0 to 10 degrees Pisces, or February 19th through February 28th so if your birthday falls on or between those dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. Saturn’s heavy-handed, hard-nosed energy in a delicate water sign like Pisces leaves the Fish without much mojo, or the strength to stand up and fight.  And indolence means inclined to be lazy or to resist action.

In real-time astrology, Neptune (one of Pisces’ ruling planets) is retrograde in Pisces (through November 22nd). Retrograde Neptune obscures and blurs life’s practical matters. We may lose some motivation and inspiration. We can feel a loss of faith, becoming more indecisive, but also more receptive. Inner exploration is a positive use of this energy.

The Sun and Mercury both enter Pisces’ fellow-Water sign Cancer on June 21st. The Sun in Cancer is sentimental, domestic and family-oriented.  Mercury in Cancer shifts our thoughts and actions to absorbing information on a more instinctive and intuitive level. The Sun and Mercury working together can help us balance emotions and intellect, creating objectivity, a nice counterbalance to the more difficult aspects of this week’s card.

With the New Moon in Cancer on June 23rd we can build and reinforce our foundation. All of the things that create our sense of “home” can be tended, strengthened and nurtured. Acknowledging and appreciating our family and close friends helps us feel safe and secure. This energy tempers some of the harsher aspects of this week’s card.

Saturn, retrograde in Fire-sign Sagittarius (which shares its ruling planet, Jupiter, with Pisces) will move into Pisces fellow-Water sign, Scorpio on June 20th. The main message of Saturn’s transit through both signs is to avoid repeating our mistakes.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes depression, self-pity, apathy, and at its very worst – suicidal thoughts or tendencies.

Let’s focus on the positive or light side of this energy – and there is some – the wisdom to let go of what no longer serves our highest good. Often relinquishing control is our only good option, and finding the reserves of strength we need to take a fresh look, a breath of fresh air, or a drink of fresh water changes things enough for us to regain a positive outlook.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include indigo, black and blue (for Saturn), violet and white for Pisces.

Sapphire, emerald and amethyst (for Pisces) and onyx, obsidian, jet and garnet (for Saturn) worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will also help us keep our hearts open and our heads held high. They can also help us balance and recharge our batteries.

Lead (Saturn) and tin (Pisces) are this week’s metals  – neither is good for wearing, but for reminding us that flexibility can serve us best when we’re under the weight of change.

Scent your home, bath and body with heliotrope, carnation, opium poppy (the scent, not the drug), valerian, comfrey, musk and patchouli – they will soothe and heal us this week. Saturn’s influence in Pisces may not be the most comfortable energy – still, let’s make the most of the opportunities it presents.

Foods prepared with thyme or teas brewed from comfrey or valerian will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Four of Cups

Weekly Tarotcast™:  6-13-17 through 6-20-17

 Four of Cups

FourofCups

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Four of Cups.  This card’s energy is protective and nurturing, what we commonly think of as the maternal instinct. Caring, affection and the creation of emotional stability will be recurring themes during this week, and we will likely be looking for ways to express ourselves in terms of unconditional love. All of this can contribute to a period of relative ease and feelings of security; however, this energy borders on being too much of a good thing.  Attempts to bind, restrict or limit others under the guise of “love” quickly turns “mothering” into smothering.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, this card represents the formula 4: sephiroth or sphere 4, Chesed (meaning Mercy, the sphere of Jupiter and the rule of law), in the suit of Cups (Briah, the Creative world; the element of Water – our heart and emotions) plus the Moon in Cancer (more on that in a moment), equaling “Luxury.”

The Fours of the Minor Arcana are where the form and structure of their respective elements and suits are stabilized and nurtured for further development and manifestation. They bring unification, domestication, reflection, or gestation in events and situations.

Astrologically, this card corresponds to the Moon in Cancer and rules from 20 to 30 degrees Cancer, or July 12th through July 21st so if your birthday falls on or between these dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us.  The Moon rules the sign of Cancer and is very much at home in this most home-y of the signs – comfort, coziness and nesting instincts will be very much in evidence this week.

In real-time astrology, Neptune retrogrades in Cancer’s fellow-Water sign Pisces on June 16th (through November 22nd). Retrograde Neptune obscures and blurs life’s practical matters. We can feel a loss of faith and inspiration, becoming more indecisive, but also more receptive. Inner exploration is a positive use of this energy.

Just following this forecast period, the Sun and Mercury both enter Cancer on June 21st. As they travel closely together, the focus will be on how we spend our time and energy on effective and productive communication. The Sun in Cancer is sentimental, domestic and family-oriented.

Mercury in Cancer shifts our thought and actions to absorbing information on a more instinctive and intuitive level.  The theoretical and abstract hold less interest for us than what affects us – and the people around us – personally and directly. The Sun and Mercury working together can help us balance emotions and objectivity, a nice complement to the energy of this week’s card.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes possessiveness, as well as control and manipulation through emotions. It reminds us how easy it is to go from comfort to crushing boredom and from cozy familiarity to contempt – and the resulting winds of rebellion can blow pretty hard.

Let’s focus on the sense of being emotionally grounded by loving energy and enjoy restful domesticity this week. Use this energy as a way to recharge your batteries before going back out into the world, but don’t seek to stay here indefinitely.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include blue, pearl white and silver for the Moon as well as amber, maroon and bright russet for Cancer.

Emerald, cat’s eye, pearl, opal, rock crystal and moonstone worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will help you balance the need for cocooning with the need for outside stimuli this week.

Silver is this week’s metal – wear it to feel emotionally stable, caring and affectionate.

Scent your home, bath and body with poppy, white rose, water lily, coconut, gardenia, jasmine, lotus, myrrh and sandalwood to enhance healthy maternal instincts and your nurturing, supportive nature.

Foods prepared with watercress, poppy seeds, coconut, and wintergreen as well as tea brewed from jasmine or wintergreen (mint) will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Three of Wands

Weekly Tarotcast™:  6-06-17 through 6-13-17

 Three of Wands

ThreeofWands

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Three of Wands. This week we’ll be poised at the brink of success, and we will definitely benefit from a shot of positive group energy. We’ll be successful in our interaction with others, be inspired, and connect with a talent pool of valuable people and resources to take us into the next phase of our endeavors. We will need to make sure that our energy stays collaborative and not coercive, though.

The Threes of the Minor Arcana are the form, structure and first results or manifestations, representing the effects of energy in action for their suit and element. They bring a perspective, a viewpoint and an understanding of events and situations. The threes show our first attempts at resolution and unification after the polarization and duality of the twos.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, this card represents the formula 3: sephiroth or sphere 3, Binah (Understanding, the sphere of Saturn, and the Divine Feminine or Yin energy); in the suit of Wands (Atziluth, the archetypal world; the element of Fire – the life-force of the soul, the will;) plus the Sun in Aries (more on that in a moment) equaling Virtue.

Astrologically, this card corresponds to the Sun in Aries and rules from 10 to 20 degrees Aries, or March 31st to April 10th, so if your birthday falls on or between these dates you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us.

This energy is powerful, confident, creative and lively.  We can take the initiative in some nearly-brilliant ways and make our dreams of success a reality.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is transiting Air-sign Gemini and Mercury enters Gemini (Gemini’s ruling planet in its home sign) on the first day of this forecast period.

The Full Moon on June 9th in Aries’ fellow Fire-sign, Sagittarius is well-aspected to Jupiter (stationing direct) but gets some static from both Neptune and Pluto. This Full Moon urges us to expand beyond our comfort zones, routines, usual ways of thinking and even our familiar geographical surroundings. Think about what you want to grow but don’t let your plans get blown out of proportion. This aspect along with a Venus-Mars sextile (Mars is Aries’ ruling planet) occurring near the time of this Full Moon enhances our people skills and highlights mutually beneficial connections. This energy fits beautifully with that of this week’s card.

Jupiter turns direct on June 9th in Air-sign Libra (Aries’ polar opposite sign) so we may find renewed and increased enthusiasm for certain projects and relationships. Jupiter direct increases our self-confidence as well as our faith in other people – business associates or relationship partners.
Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes overdoing anything, acting-out, creating drama, and engaging in attention-seeking behaviors as well as steam-rolling over others and stealing or not crediting their ideas and input.

Let’s focus on putting positive energy into constructive action. We have the perfect conditions to manifest our developing confidence and self-assurance, taking opportunities to achieve success.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include orange, red, scarlet, crimson, amber, yellow and gold (for both the Sun and Aries).

Ruby, bloodstone, diamond, amber, topaz and garnet worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will help us do the right things for the right reasons – the meaning of “Virtue” and this week – as the old saying goes, “virtue is its own reward”.

Gold is this week’s metal – yellow or rose gold, in this case – strong, beautiful and eternal. Wear it to find the right tools, formulate the right plan and act with the right attitude.

Scent your home, bath and body with rose, juniper, orange and frankincense to experience optimism and strength.

Foods prepared with sunflower seeds, galangal, orange, rosemary, cinnamon and clove or some gin (juniper!) or beer (hops!) enjoyed responsibly will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: The Universe

Weekly Tarotcast™:  5-30-17 through 6-06-17

 The Universe

21-TheUniverse

The weekly Tarotcast card is The Universe.  Known in many decks as The World, this is the last card of the Major Arcana. We’ll be experiencing strong feelings of success, completion, fulfillment and synthesis in key areas of our lives this week.

In our work environment, this can mean the completion of a long-term project and we may see the effects of global influence in our business dealings. In our personal and romantic lives, this card indicates expansion and positive changes to the status quo, especially if things have been somewhat dull or stagnant.  At the same time, we’re reminded to attend to our duties and responsibilities that extend beyond the current situation. We will likely gain deep insight into the workings of karma in our lives, and our understanding of the elements of time – past, present and future – will grow and shift toward a more cosmic, universal consciousness.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, this card travels Path 32, joining sephiroth or sphere 9, Yesod (meaning the Foundation) to sephiroth or sphere 10, Malkuth (meaning the Kingdom).  Its Hebrew letter is Tau, meaning “cross,” the last letter of the Hebrew alphabet. The cross is an ancient symbol. At its most basic, it symbolized the arrangement of the universe into four directions, but it also encompasses the entire universe. Tau is the furthest development of the divine made manifest in the physical world, and is used to indicate infinity.

As the last card of the Major Arcana, the Universe represents the completion of the Great Work. The Fool’s journey begins as the zero moves from nothingness to manifestation.  The Universe is that manifestation, its purpose accomplished, ready to return to the divine All-Nothingness.

Astrologically, this card is the planetary trump of Saturn and the elemental trump of Earth. The cycles of both Being and Time are contained in this card. This is the momentary pause after much activity, the experience of rest after hard work (even knowing that there is more work to be done), and feelings of wholeness and unity.

In real-time astrology, we’ll experience a New Moon in Air-sign Gemini on May 25th (Happy World Tarot Day!) and on June 4th Mars enters Water sign Cancer (through July 20th).

This New Moon will stimulate our curiosity and we find our people skills and communication skills improving. We’re more other-oriented and open-minded during this forecast period. The Sun is also transiting Gemini, and these energies harmonize nicely with those of this week’s card.

Mars transiting Cancer will find us behaving more cautiously, but we will stand up and fight for the people and things we hold most dear.  Although we may appear to digress or move erratically, we can plan, strategize and then move effectively toward what we want.

Near the end of this forecast period, Jupiter retrograde in Libra is quintile Saturn retrograde in Sagittarius on June 5th. This combination of expansiveness and restraint will require self-awareness and finesse from us, but the rewards can be considerable if we navigate gracefully.

Venus enters Earth-sign Taurus on June 6th a sign she rules (along with Libra) and where she is comfortably, happily at home.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes superficiality, being deceived by appearances and focusing on them over substance, laziness and depression.

Let’s focus on positive solutions, the satisfaction of a job well-done, completion, wholeness and the sense of returning home in order to get the most benefits from this week’s energy.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include indigo, iridescent blue-black, navy blue for Saturn as well as the earthy colors of russet, olive, amber and golden-yellow.

This is a great week to listen to beautiful music – anything that uplifts you and makes you feel closer to God and universal consciousness, or connects you to your own spirituality.

Onyx, obsidian, jet, garnet, rock crystal, quartz, jasper and azurite worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will combine the best of Saturn responsibility and accountability with the grounded, practical and nurturing qualities of Earth – our mother planet.

Iron and lead are this week’s metals – not great for wearing, but perfect symbols of strength and endurance.

Scent your home, bath and body with valerian, comfrey, musk, patchouli, cedar, honeysuckle and magnolia to keep you energized, centered and successful this week.
Foods prepared with thyme, sage, and any whole grains, nuts and seeds will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Eight of Swords

Weekly Tarotcast™:  5-23-17 through 5-30-17

 Eight of Swords

EightofSwords

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Eight of Swords.  The suit of Swords can be challenging since it represents disruption and conflict. On the positive side, it also represents analysis, intellect and ideas.  We can use the positive qualities of the Eight of Swords to understand that when we change our thoughts, we change our feelings and beliefs – and we can change our lives!  I love the Wayne Dyer quote, “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” The positive aspects of the Eight of Swords embody this idea beautifully.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life this card represents the formula 8:  sephiroth or sphere 8, Hod (meaning Splendor, the sphere of Mercury and the feminized Yang) in the suit of Swords (Yetzirah, the formative world; the element of Air – our intellect, thoughts and mental activity) plus Jupiter in Gemini (more on that in a moment) equaling “Interference.”

Astrologically, this card symbolizes Jupiter in Gemini and rules from 0 to 10 degrees Gemini, or May 21st through May 31st so if your birthday falls on or between those dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. The message of this card is that things are not as bad as they look.

Hod is the sphere of Mercury – its home sphere, you might say – and Mercury rules Gemini.  Adding Jupiter to the mix brings an element of luck, especially in intellectual pursuits.  However, as with all of the Eights, the influence of Hod causes this card to suffer from imbalance. Hod tends to be the “wet blanket” on all prevailing energies. Even with (mostly) good luck and a good outlook, we can still experience setbacks, delays or the proverbial “fly in the ointment.”  Since fighting is what Swords are all about, we’re not much good when the “fight” has been knocked out of us. But – it’s temporary.

In real-time astrology, the Sun entered Air-sign Gemini on May 20th and we will experience a New Moon in Gemini on May 25th.  With this New Moon, we learn by simply indulging our natural curiosity – and we improve both our people skills and communication skills by doing so.  We’re more other-oriented and open-minded during this forecast period. This energy harmonizes nicely with the energy of this week’s card.

Jupiter is retrograde in Gemini’s fellow Air-sign, Libra (through June 9th). During this retrograde, we’ve had plenty of opportunity to benefit from unexpected good luck and may even have come to, well…expect it. This energy also highlights the more positive aspects of this week’s card, and is a strong reminder about how much of our emotional response to situations depends on our perspective. “Positive” really is in the eye of the beholder.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes confusion, fuzzy thinking, fear of the unknown and crippling uncertainty.  When we believe a situation is impossible or that we have no options, those thoughts become self-fulfilling prophecies.

Let’s focus on the ability to look at the ways we hold ourselves back. Taking the longer view can help us gain a fresh perspective on any situation or relationship. It will free us up and move us forward.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include violet, blue, purple, and yellow as well as silver and pale gray.

Diamond, jade, agate, topaz, sapphire and amethyst worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will counteract feelings of “stuck-ness”, restlessness and absent-mindedness.

Mercury and tin are this week’s metals – while neither is really wearable, their properties can remind us that a positive boost to our mental energy will help us make good choices and avoid getting bogged down in self-criticism.

Scent your home, bath and body with fern, iris, carnation, heliotrope, cedar and honeysuckle to stay clear-minded and look for fresh viewpoints this week.

Foods prepared with parsley, dill, clove, sage, anise, cinnamon, mint and nutmeg will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Ten of Wands

Weekly Tarotcast™:  5-16-17 through 5-23-17

 Ten of Wands

TenofWands

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Ten of Wands.  This week’s energy is a warning against many things – all of which represent the ways in which we imprison ourselves in cages of our own design. This can include anything from workaholism to taking on burdens that aren’t ours to bear.  Personal responsibility is important, but so are boundaries. Taking on the responsibilities that rightly belong to others can lead to feelings of resentment because we’re playing the martyr.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, this card represents the formula 10: sephiroth or sphere 10, Malkuth (meaning Kingdom – sphere of Earth and the full materialization of energy) in the suit of Wands (the element of Fire – Atziluth, the archetypal world; our Will or Spirit in action) plus Saturn in Sagittarius (more on that in a moment) equaling Oppression.

Frankly, this is not the most pleasant energy around.  Since all of the tens of the Minor Arcana cards are in the sephiroth of Malkuth on the tree of life, this lowest sephiroth represents the material world, and is the position in which all the elements (in this case Fire) expend their energy in its grossest, and often most destructive form.

Astrologically this card represents Saturn in Sagittarius, and rules from 20 to 30 degrees Sagittarius, or December 13th to December 21st so if your birthday falls on or between these dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. Sagittarius is the most ethereal of the fire signs – Saturn’s oppressive, repressive, heavy iron boots can be freedom-loving Sagittarius’ worst nightmare realized.

In real-time astrology, Saturn is retrograde, completing its 2 ½ year transit of Fire-sign Sagittarius from September 17th, 2015 through December 20th, 2017.

Saturn’s retrograde further slows down a planet that normally moves slowly, but this can allow effective methods and strategies time to develop. However when combined with sometimes impetuous Sag energy, this can also cause frustration. If properly used, this energy can be great for establishing and honoring boundaries – and give us an unerring education in how and when to say “no!”

On May 19th, Saturn trines Uranus in Sagittarius’s fellow Fire-sign, Aries. These energies are normally opposite – with Saturn representing authority and tradition while Uranus is progressive and rebellious. However, during this forecast period the trine aspect can be the “spoonful of sugar” that helps the medicine go down. Even if that’s not in the most delightful way, it’s a lot more palatable than it could be.

This energy can be felt as a revival, a change in perspective that allows us to take old ideas or plans and look at them with fresh eyes.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card abounds – fixation, obsession, repression and oppression are rife. So are inflexible attitudes and beliefs and the idea of a punishing, vengeful God.

Let’s focus on what positives are available, mainly the strength to persevere and the use of slow, structured growth to push past our internal obstacles.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include yellow, indigo, black, blue and green.

Sapphire, emerald and topaz enhance the light, mobile energy of Sagittarius while obsidian, garnet, onyx and jet represent Saturn’s grounding force.  This week wearing either (but not in combination) as jewelry or carried as power stones will keep us moving forward slowly but surely and keep our boundaries securely in place.

Tin and lead are this week’s metals.  Neither is good for wearing, but can be good reminders of the strength to be found when we combine our efforts in positive alliances.

Scent your home, bath and body with carnation, sage, valerian, comfrey, musk, patchouli, slippery elm, thyme, and witch hazel to enhance any of the positives available this week.

Foods prepared with thyme and sage, or teas brewed from valerian or comfrey will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Fortune

Weekly Tarotcast™:  5-09-17 through 5-16-17

 Fortune

10-Fortune

The weekly Tarotcast card is Fortune (known as the Wheel of Fortune in many decks).  We’ll be experiencing a lot of changes this week. The traditional interpretation of this card is good luck. That’s only partially true – this is the card of our luck – or fortunes – changing: that can mean if our fortunes have been bad, they’re likely to change for the better. But if they’ve been good, the wheel is turning, so it’s a good idea to watch out for obstacles or pitfalls. This card can represent the risk-taker; one who is willing to gamble on an opportunity, not necessarily certain of the result, but able to turn a lucky break to his or her own advantage.

The card symbolizes the only constant in our lives: change. No matter the current situation, remember that it is not forever. The Wheel turns; the cycle changes and progresses; and all that is now will pass away, giving birth to new experiences, circumstances and connections.

This card also represents the Wheel of Karma; there is a feeling that events coming to pass are beyond our control. Understand that whatever is occurring has been created by our deeds and thoughts.  The law of Karma operates independently of the concept of blind luck. On the kabalistic Tree of Life this card travels path 21, joining sephiroth or sphere 4, Chesed (meaning Mercy) to sephiroth or sphere 7, Netzach (meaning Victory).  Its Hebrew letter is Kaph, meaning the palm of the hand, and this is an apt image for either the fortune we’re born with (as the art of palmistry would read what is written in the lines found there) or the fortune we make through the things we do and the actions we take – what we create through our own efforts.

Astrologically, this card is the planetary trump of Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system. This is the planet of expansion – bigger, better, more.

In real time astrology, Jupiter is retrograde in Air-sign Libra.  Jupiter retrograde can be extremely beneficial. This energy draws us inward and helps us to consider things from perspectives other than our own. If you have delayed making a difficult decision, or if it’s time to reevaluate your personal life, relationships or career, Jupiter retro can be an undisguised blessing.

Immediately following this forecast period, Jupiter is quincunx Neptune in Pisces on May 17th. This is the second formation of this aspect (the first occurred on October 23rd last year) and the third will occur July 4th this year.

This is a challenging time for honoring limits and boundaries. We’re likely to be more disorganized and have trouble following a routine. We may find ourselves restless and dissatisfied. Watch out for the tendency to take the easy way out, or any other escapist tendencies; it’s better to take clear-minded and well-considered action.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes feelings of fatalism, disempowerment and a perceived lack of control over our own course in life.

Let’s focus on the positives, which promise that we can always roll with the inevitable changes that come naturally in life, and that we can gain greater awareness when we transcend polarity (good/bad, up/down, light/dark, etc.)

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include violet, bright blue, purple and yellow.

Sapphire, amethyst or diamond worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will keep you feeling optimistic and help you take educated and informed “risks.”

This week’s metal is tin – not great for wearing, but often used to improve the strength and flexibility of other metals. So, it’s a good reminder of the powers of adaptation and transformation.

Scent your home, bath and body with poppy and honeysuckle to use Jupiter’s expansive energy to your benefit; recognize opportunities and take some intelligent risks.

Foods prepared with mint, clove, cinnamon, nutmeg and sage will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Ten of Disks

Weekly Tarotcast™:  5-02-17 through 5-09-17

 Ten of Disks

TenofDisks

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Ten of Disks (this suit is also called Pentacles or Coins). This week’s energy is focused on financial prosperity as well as building on a firm foundation for our personal and family life.  Materially, we find ways to grow our assets and resources. We also find creative ways to put money to good use through wise investing or smart budgeting.

This is the very last Tarot card – the point at which spirit manifests fully as matter, and the point which signals the reintegration of matter into spirit. It is a complete picture of the cycle of regeneration. Unlike any of the other small cards including the Tens of the other suits, the Ten of Disks has a unique mission. From the very bottom of the cosmos, it must somehow link to the innermost secret of creation and reincarnate at the very top of the Tarot cycle. Its job is to regenerate the world.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, this card represents the formula 10:  sephiroth or sphere 10, Malkuth (meaning Kingdom – the material world) in the suit of Disks (the element of Earth, Assiah – our physical bodies, and material assets or resources) plus Mercury in Virgo (more on that in a moment) equaling Wealth.

Astrologically this card corresponds to Mercury in Virgo.  It rules from 20 to 30 degrees Virgo, or September 12th through September 22nd, so if your birthday falls on or between those dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. Many people forget that Mercury also rules the sign of Virgo (as well as Gemini). Mercury’s creativity and cleverness are turned to practical and productive endeavors in Virgo, so our own intelligence and willingness to work smarter rather than harder reaps big rewards this week.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is transiting Virgo’s fellow Earth-sign, Taurus. This transit harmonizes nicely with this week’s Tarot card and is a positive influence during this forecast period.

Having spent part of its retrograde in Taurus, Mercury turns direct in Aries on May 3rd. Mercury rules Virgo (and Gemini) and despite the usual retro caveats, this has been an exceptionally good retrograde period for shaking off old beliefs or outmoded mindsets that no longer serve us.

Jupiter retrograde in Libra is quintile Saturn retrograde in Sagittarius on May 3rd which indicates that we can grow and expand in a controlled, disciplined way during this forecast period. Our responsibilities and obligations can be handled with a combination of both style and substance.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes greed for money and material possessions; it also indicates a lack of understanding of the connection between the physical and the spiritual worlds.

Let’s focus on discovering the value of everyday things and understanding that abundance is more than how much money we have in our wallets or our bank accounts.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include yellow, purple, grey and indigo for Mercury as well as green and plum for Virgo.

Carnelian, jade and jasper worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will help us feel comfortable, secure and generous.

This week’s metals are platinum (how’s that for feeling rich?) and of course Mercury – which can’t be worn or handled safely. Wear platinum if you’re lucky enough to own it; or mindfully aspire to it – you never know what you can attract until you try.

Scent your home, bath and body with valerian, lavender, lily of the valley and lilac to bring a sense of abundant well-being into your environment.

Foods prepared with rosemary, parsley, dill, peppermint and lemongrass will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Nine of Cups

Weekly Tarotcast™:  4-25-17 through 5-02-17

Nine of Cups

NineofCups

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Nine of Cups. This is one of the happiest, most positive and optimistic cards in the deck, especially in all matters emotional, including romantic love!

Is everybody happy? You bet! This week is a great time to get centered, smile and celebrate while enjoying the pleasures and comforts of the very best things life has to offer.  This card is the big “YES” – so be prepared to say yes to just about anything this week, and be prepared for the big “YES”  in terms of good things coming your way.

The Nines of the Minor Arcana bring things toward a conclusion. They represent integration, fulfillment and attainment for their respective suits and elements, in this case Cups and Water energy. Social and sensual pleasures are still enjoyed in moderation, desires are satisfied and contentment reigns.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, this card represents the formula 9: sephiroth or sphere 9, Yesod (meaning Foundation – sphere of Luna, where energy crystallizes) in the suit of Cups (Briah, the Creative world; the element of Water – our heart and emotions) plus Jupiter in Pisces (more on that in a moment) equaling Happiness.

Astrologically, this card represents Jupiter in Pisces, and rules from 10 to 20 degrees Pisces, or March 1st through March 10th, so if your birthday falls on or between those dates you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. Jupiter’s knack for enjoying the good life and “bigger, better, more” energy is right at home in the mutable water sign of the Fish, where things are comfortable and cozy.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is in Earth-sign Taurus – a sign that knows plenty about sensual pleasures. The New Moon in Taurus on April 26th finds us finds us taking charge of providing for our own security and sense of safety. The material aspects of our lives take center stage as we decide what we truly value, what brings us true happiness and fulfillment. This is a great time to reconnect with nature, to honor our physical bodies, and to enjoy the world of the five physical senses.

Mercury remains retrograde in Earth-sign Taurus (through May 3rd). This energy is excellent for identifying our needs for security and comfort and it’s also perfect for reviewing financial matters and business commitments. Old projects may have newly-discovered value, and we revive them with a fresh perspective and enthusiasm.

Both of these transits complement the energy of this forecast period and can enhance the prevailing energy if used wisely.

Jupiter is currently retrograde in Air-sign Libra (through June 9th). Jupiter retro can actually bring us good luck, although it may come from an unexpected source or an area previously overlooked in our lives.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes conceit and vanity. Avoid being gullible.  Check your “Too Good to Be True” Meter, because if something really IS too good to be true you’ll want to take a pass.

Let’s focus on sharing our good fortune and positive news with others and allowing them to share theirs with us! Stay receptive and be ready to say “YES” – accept affirmatives into your life this week.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include sea-green, blue, purple, violet and white.

Of course, there couldn’t be a better time to listen to music that makes you want to dance, sing, or – if you’re feeling too shy for those, just lifts your spirits high! How about Pharrell Williams’ “Happy?” or “Don’t Worry, Be Happy?” The word “happy” doesn’t even have to be in the title. One of my all-time favorites (and a song I lovingly describe as the happiest flippin’ song in the world) is “Jackie Wilson Said” by Van Morrison. Whatever works for you.

Amethyst, aquamarine, sapphire, emerald or topaz worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will help us to clarify and manifest what makes us happy and serves our highest good.

Tin is this week’s metal, not great for wearing – but a strong alloy (and ally) for strength and flexibility.

Scent your home, bath and body with musk, lavender, jasmine, heliotrope, carnation, opium poppy, cedar, honeysuckle and hyssop to feel love, happiness and optimism; to awaken Pisces gentle, loving nature and to radiate Jupiter’s noble power.

Foods prepared with clove, sage, anise, cinnamon, nutmeg and mint especially in liquids (soups, teas) and in all types of desserts and sweets will provide the same beneficial effects.
