Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Nine of Cups

Weekly Tarotcast™:  4-25-17 through 5-02-17

Nine of Cups

NineofCups

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Nine of Cups. This is one of the happiest, most positive and optimistic cards in the deck, especially in all matters emotional, including romantic love!

Is everybody happy? You bet! This week is a great time to get centered, smile and celebrate while enjoying the pleasures and comforts of the very best things life has to offer.  This card is the big “YES” – so be prepared to say yes to just about anything this week, and be prepared for the big “YES”  in terms of good things coming your way.

The Nines of the Minor Arcana bring things toward a conclusion. They represent integration, fulfillment and attainment for their respective suits and elements, in this case Cups and Water energy. Social and sensual pleasures are still enjoyed in moderation, desires are satisfied and contentment reigns.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, this card represents the formula 9: sephiroth or sphere 9, Yesod (meaning Foundation – sphere of Luna, where energy crystallizes) in the suit of Cups (Briah, the Creative world; the element of Water – our heart and emotions) plus Jupiter in Pisces (more on that in a moment) equaling Happiness.

Astrologically, this card represents Jupiter in Pisces, and rules from 10 to 20 degrees Pisces, or March 1st through March 10th, so if your birthday falls on or between those dates you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. Jupiter’s knack for enjoying the good life and “bigger, better, more” energy is right at home in the mutable water sign of the Fish, where things are comfortable and cozy.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is in Earth-sign Taurus – a sign that knows plenty about sensual pleasures. The New Moon in Taurus on April 26th finds us finds us taking charge of providing for our own security and sense of safety. The material aspects of our lives take center stage as we decide what we truly value, what brings us true happiness and fulfillment. This is a great time to reconnect with nature, to honor our physical bodies, and to enjoy the world of the five physical senses.

Mercury remains retrograde in Earth-sign Taurus (through May 3rd). This energy is excellent for identifying our needs for security and comfort and it’s also perfect for reviewing financial matters and business commitments. Old projects may have newly-discovered value, and we revive them with a fresh perspective and enthusiasm.

Both of these transits complement the energy of this forecast period and can enhance the prevailing energy if used wisely.

Jupiter is currently retrograde in Air-sign Libra (through June 9th). Jupiter retro can actually bring us good luck, although it may come from an unexpected source or an area previously overlooked in our lives.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes conceit and vanity. Avoid being gullible.  Check your “Too Good to Be True” Meter, because if something really IS too good to be true you’ll want to take a pass.

Let’s focus on sharing our good fortune and positive news with others and allowing them to share theirs with us! Stay receptive and be ready to say “YES” – accept affirmatives into your life this week.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include sea-green, blue, purple, violet and white.

Of course, there couldn’t be a better time to listen to music that makes you want to dance, sing, or – if you’re feeling too shy for those, just lifts your spirits high! How about Pharrell Williams’ “Happy?” or “Don’t Worry, Be Happy?” The word “happy” doesn’t even have to be in the title. One of my all-time favorites (and a song I lovingly describe as the happiest flippin’ song in the world) is “Jackie Wilson Said” by Van Morrison. Whatever works for you.

Amethyst, aquamarine, sapphire, emerald or topaz worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will help us to clarify and manifest what makes us happy and serves our highest good.

Tin is this week’s metal, not great for wearing – but a strong alloy (and ally) for strength and flexibility.

Scent your home, bath and body with musk, lavender, jasmine, heliotrope, carnation, opium poppy, cedar, honeysuckle and hyssop to feel love, happiness and optimism; to awaken Pisces gentle, loving nature and to radiate Jupiter’s noble power.

Foods prepared with clove, sage, anise, cinnamon, nutmeg and mint especially in liquids (soups, teas) and in all types of desserts and sweets will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: The Priestess

Weekly Tarotcast™:  4-18-17 through 4-25-17

 The Priestess

2-ThePriestess

The weekly Tarotcast card is The Priestess, also known as The High Priestess. Our intuition and inspiration will be flowing freely this week. The Priestess is the embodiment of feminine consciousness – she is the Yin principle and she guards the gate of the unconscious.  Her purity and virginity are spiritual rather than physical, and her veil – like a bridal veil – can be lifted only by the initiate of the Light.

Her invitation to us this week is to look within for our answers, she knows but doesn’t tell. Our ability to unravel mysteries and discover information that’s been hidden or held in secret will be enhanced this week. This doesn’t mean we get to pry or spy; rather, by tapping into our own psychic abilities, intuition and dreams, and trusting what we see and feel with our inner senses, answers come to us and enlighten us.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, the High Priestess travels Path 13, joining sephiroth or sphere 1, Kether (meaning the Crown) to sephiroth or sphere 6, Tiphareth (meaning Beauty).  Its Hebrew letter is Gimel which means “camel”.  Think that’s odd? Symbolically, the Priestess traverses the Abyss – the desert of the soul. Just like the camel crossing the physical desert, she is the only creature capable of successfully crossing the wasteland.

Astrologically this card is the planetary trump of the Moon, and represents the Moon in its highest aspect – the aspect that joins the human to the divine.

In real-time astrology, the Sun enters Earth-sign Taurus on April 19th.  This transit harmonizes nicely with this week’s card. Although this isn’t the best time to engage in radical change, we can look within to find the best ways to expand on what we already know and already have. We can cultivate a special appreciation for the aspects of our lives that sustain and support us, and provide a lasting foundation on which to build and grow.

Just following this forecast period, on April 26th the New Moon in Taurus finds us taking charge of providing for our own security and sense of safety. The material aspects of our lives take center stage as we decide what we truly value, what brings us happiness and fulfillment.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes falling into illusions, phoniness and escape from reality. Lunar energy – like lunar light – can be deceptive and seductive if we’re careless or trust our physical vision only.

Let’s focus on openness and receptivity while maintaining an awareness that not everything is as it appears on the surface; and let’s remember to process information wisely rather than accepting anything at face value.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include silver, pearlescent white and cool, pale blue.

Chalcedony, clear crystals, opals or moonstones worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will enhance our psychic and intuitive abilities this week and help us see clearly to the truth of the matters at hand.

Silver is this week’s metal.  Wear it for its clear, bright light – silver is one of the most reflective of all precious metals, is the “whitest” of them, and is also the most electrically conductive. Think about all of that in conjunction with the Priestess’ energy, and you’ll have a powerful week ahead.

Scent your home, bath and body with poppy, lily, white rose, gardenia, jasmine, lotus flower, myrrh and sandalwood to purify and cleanse mind, body and spirit and to invite clear inner vision.

Foods prepared with coconut, lotus root, poppy seeds, cloves and wintergreen (mint) as well as tea brewed with jasmine will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: The Empress

Weekly Tarotcast™:  4-11-17 through 4-18-17

 The Empress

3-TheEmpress

The weekly Tarotcast card is The Empress. We may experience strong urges to nurture and share this week. We find ourselves and others more open, receptive and compassionate.  Enjoy your home, have a party, serve comfort foods and indulge in rich desserts.  All activities centered on help and support – especially of children and animals, are favored with success.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life this card travels Path 14, joining sephiroth or sphere 2, Chokmah (meaning Wisdom) to sephiroth or sphere 3, Binah (meaning Understanding).  Its Hebrew letter is Daleth (which means “door”) and a woman’s body is the door through which we all pass when we enter this life.

Astrologically, this card is the Planetary trump of Venus. She is woman in all her many forms. Fertility is highlighted – in every sense of that word. New ideas, planting and gardening, seed money for investment or projects, and even news of pregnancy all present positive possibilities in the coming week.

In real-time astrology, April 11th brings us a Full Moon in Air-sign Libra. This moon phase perfectly matches and enhances the energy of this week’s card and starts off this forecast period on a high note. This Full Moon in the sign of good luck, conjunct the planet of good luck (Jupiter) may find us feeling an unexpected and unexplainable wave of happiness and contentment.

On April 15th Venus turns direct, having entered Water-sign Pisces back on April 2nd. We may have been reviewing our relationships and our finances, questioning the value and quality of what we give and receive. We may be retracing our steps right along with the Goddess of Love and Beauty – the challenge may be finding the clarity we need since Pisces’ energy can be both elusive and illusive.

Mercury remains retrograde in Earth-sign Taurus (co-ruled along with Libra by Venus – through May 3rd). Take special care in your communications, expect the unexpected and plan for delays or last-minute changes when traveling. We may also find we’re more clumsy or accident-prone, so use extra caution navigating your physical surroundings also.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes over-indulgence in sensual pleasures (alcohol, drugs, sex, even food), wallowing in self-indulgence to the point of egotism or narcissism, vanity, laziness and envy of others.

Let’s focus on the best energy of this card – embracing the power of the feminine principle (no matter whether we’re female or male). We can find comfort and strength inside our own skins, celebrate our bodies, and our Mother Earth.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors for this week include emerald green, sky blue, bright rose pink, and pale spring green.

Emeralds, opals, jade, sapphire and lapis worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will help us to nurture others and take compassionate action this week, a good balance for pampering ourselves.

Copper is this week metal. Since copper is supposed to have healing properties, this is a great week to see how it works for you.

Scent your home, bath and body with violet, wild rose, bergamot, hibiscus, magnolia, plumeria, rose, strawberry and vanilla to enhance the balance of self-care and other-care.  For a treat, take a candle-lit bath using pink candles and natural mineral salts – you’ll be channeling the positive energy of the Empress in just a few relaxing minutes!

Foods prepared with apples, strawberries and vanilla or teas brewed from rose hips or hibiscus will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Three of Swords

Weekly Tarotcast™:  4-04-17 through 4-11-17

 Three of Swords

ThreeofSwords

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Three of Swords.  This is difficult and challenging energy in a difficult and challenging suit. Most often this card is interpreted as worldly sorrows – loss through separation or death, the end of a relationship, or even a serious illness that causes us suffering.  Often we can’t begin to heal until the source of the suffering or disease is removed. The energy of this card reveals that all things come to an end, but also that all things pass, even profound grief.

The Threes of the Minor Arcana represent the form, structure and the first results or manifestations of their respective elements. They show the effects of energy in action within their suit and element. They bring a perspective, a viewpoint and an understanding of events and situations. The threes show our first attempts at resolution and unification after the polarization and duality of the twos.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life this card represents the formula 3:  sephiroth or sphere 3, Binah (meaning Understanding – supreme Feminine energy, or Yin, also the sphere of Saturn) in the suit of Swords (Yetzirah, the formative world and the element of Air – our mental and intellectual processes) plus Saturn in Libra (more on that in a moment) equaling Sorrow.

From the kabbalistic point of view, the Three of Swords represents a higher consciousness than that which we can easily access in our day-to-day world. Think of the consciousness of worldly suffering that transformed Siddhartha into the Buddha – and the energy becomes transcendent, a higher perception illuminating the path to enlightenment.

Astrologically, this card represents Saturn in Libra and rules from 10 to 20 degrees Libra, or October 3rd to October 12th, so if your birthday falls on or between these dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us.  We may experience a sense of loss during this forecast period but it is more likely that we will feel sadness over something intangible and undefinable.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is transiting Fire-sign Aries (Libra’s polar opposite sign on the wheel of the zodiac). On April 6th Saturn retrogrades in in Aries’ fellow Fire-sign Sagittarius, testing our determination and strength of purpose, as well as our spiritual and philosophical beliefs. Keep your promises to complete any projects or fulfill any responsibilities you’ve already taken on. This is not a good time to add any new obligations.

On April 9th, Mercury retrogrades in Earth-sign Taurus (co-ruled along with Libra by Venus). All the usual warnings about Merc retro apply – be cautious in your communications and avoid signing contracts or taking on new projects if you possibly can. We may also find we’re more clumsy or accident-prone, so take care in your physical surroundings also.

April 11th brings us a Full Moon in Air-sign Libra. This moon phase smiles on us like a cosmic gift despite all of the challenging energy in this forecast period. A Full Moon in the sign of good luck, conjunct the planet of good luck (Jupiter) may find us feeling an unexpected and unexplainable wave of happiness and contentment as this forecast period draws to a close.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes self-delusion, self-pity and the belief that our pain, misery or loss is the “worst in the world”.

Let’s focus on the fact that with insight, we can realize that the things we are “losing” are actually old or erroneous beliefs and perceptions, or situations and relationships we’ve long outgrown. Painful though it may be, it might be even more painful to remain in illusion, helplessness and blindness.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors for this week include dark brown, black and blue-black (for Saturn).  Balance these with Libra colors – emerald green, deep blue-green and sky blue to combine these energies as harmoniously as possible.

Onyx, garnet, opal and sapphire worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will give us a sense of grounding and the ability to look past our immediate circumstances to the near future.

Copper and lead are this week’s metals – wear the copper and let the lead remind you of what to “get out” in order to move through and past temporarily limiting circumstances.

Scent your home, bath and body with violet, rose, musk, patchouli and valerian to balance Saturn’s heavy energy with the ethereal spirit of Libra.

Foods prepared with thyme as well as tea brewed from comfrey will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: The Hanged Man

Weekly Tarotcast™:  3-21-17 through 3-28-17

 The Hanged Man

12-TheHangedMan

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Hanged Man. This week we’re invited to gain a new perspective, perhaps by turning the familiar, routine and status-quo point of view on its head. This card is no less than a depiction of surrendering the ego to gain enlightenment, and that’s pretty “heady” stuff indeed. We get “stuck” or “hung up” when we are trapped in the material world, forgetting that we are a part of the Divine – we are the Universe and the Universe is us.

When Aleister Crowley and Lady Frieda Harris were working together to create the Thoth Tarot (the deck I use), Crowley attempted with this card to “try to explain the innermost secret of life and all the mysteries of High Magick and the Universe in general,” (DuQuette, Lon Milo). No small endeavor!

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, the Hanged Man travels Path 23, joining sephiroth or sphere 5, Geburah (meaning Severity) to sephiroth or sphere 8, Hod (meaning Splendor).  This is Major Arcana card number 12, and its Hebrew letter is Mem (meaning water).  Here water is flowing, cleansing and purifying – as in baptism and other rituals of rebirth.

Astrologically this card is the elemental trump of – you guessed it – Water.  Water always seeks its own level – and represents the emotions. It is arguably the strongest element and is the birthplace of earthly life. Just over 70% of the earth’s surface is water, and up to 60% of the human body is water, with our brains being composed of 70% water.  Do you feel a sudden need to use the bathroom?

In real-time astrology, the Sun just ended its transit of Water-sign Pisces and entered Fire-sign Aries on March 20th (the spring equinox). We’ll also experience a New Moon in Aries on March 27th. During this transit, action-oriented, go-go Aries energy seeks to show the world a pure, innocently honest face to the world. There is a strong urge to act on impulse (hopefully constructive) – fearlessly and without any filters. Using this energy to best advantage during this forecast period, we are confident, self-reliant, strong and charming.

This week activity is focused in a Cardinal Fire sign, opposing – or balancing, depending on your outlook – the Water element. I think this week’s energy is about restoring balance. Essential to every living thing on earth, wherever water goes – through the air, the earth, or through our bodies’ metabolic (fiery!) furnace – it carries along valuable chemicals, minerals, and nutrients.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes being at a standstill, feeling stuck or resistant to change, and unenlightened self-sacrifice.

Let’s focus on finding redemption and losing the bonds of our ego-selves this week.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include deep blue, sea green, deep olive green, gray, indigo, white and flecked or speckled purple.

Aquamarine, amethyst, blue tourmaline, pearl, coral, blue topaz, lapis and sodalite worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will help us with new perspectives and give us the ability to embrace change by transcending our limitations.

Mercury, silver and copper are this week’s metals, so there are at least two wearable choices to remind us that change is the one constant in life.

Scent your home, bath and body with gardenia, lemon, lilac, lily of the valley, lotus, rose and valerian to relax the physical body and free the spiritual one this week.

Foods prepared with apple, lemon, lettuce, lotus root, thyme and seaweed (sushi!) as well as tea made from chamomile will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: The Chariot

Weekly Tarotcast™:  3-14-17 through 3-21-17

 The Chariot

7-TheChariot

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Chariot. The “go for it” energy of this card allows us to show what we have learned through experience and hard work, and to prove our abilities. We know the reason for our journey and we’re focused intently on getting there.  Literally or figuratively, we are on a journey and our actions will determine both the course of the journey itself as well as the outcome when we arrive at our destination.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, the Chariot travels path 18, joining sephiroth or sphere 3, Binah (Understanding) to sephiroth or sphere 5, Geburah (Severity).  This Major Arcana card is numbered 7, and its Hebrew letter is Cheth, meaning “fence”.   Seems odd that something we associate with boundaries and limitations would represent a moving vehicle, doesn’t it? Well, here’s how it works: The Hebrew word for life, living, or alive is “Cha’i,” written in the Hebrew alphabet as, “Cheth Yod”. In Judaism, the word is used as an emblem of charity, longevity, and good fortune – pretty good and powerful ways of moving through the world, right?

Astrologically, this card is the zodiacal trump of Cancer, which is ruled by the Moon, with Jupiter exalted.

In real-time astrology, the Sun continues its transit of Cancer’s fellow Water-sign, Pisces until March 20th enhancing our compassion and spirituality. As the Sun moves into Fire-sign Aries, we welcome the astrological new year and the spring equinox with the Ram’s assertive and enterprising energy.

We may still be feeling the effects of a Full Moon in Earth-sign Virgo (occurred on March 12th) prompting us to create more order and structure in our lives. We may be more judgmental of ourselves and others, or we can feel more tension and anxiety during this forecast period.

Jupiter will form a square with Pluto on March 30th, use this week’s energy as a springboard into the energy coming at the end of the month. This aspect highlights ambition – we are optimistic and confident that we can achieve our goals. It’s easy to create conflict and opposition though – and we may find tact and diplomacy hard to come by.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes becoming the ego-ruled driver who runs down anything in his path, or who becomes frustrated to the boiling point, acting out in road-rage over obstacles, rough patches or detours.

Let’s focus on rolling along confidently but compassionately. We can benefit by taking well-planned action to maintain a steady course.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include amber, green, maroon, brownish-reds, and russet.

Emerald, garnet and amber worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will help us enjoy the spirit of adventure and self-discovery this card represents.

Silver is this week’s metal. Wear it to balance the sensitive lunar energies with the expansive Jupiter blessings coming your way.

Scent your home, bath and body with poppy, white rose, cedar, cypress and honeysuckle to channel the power of the Chariot – and the charioteer – and keep moving toward your goal.

Foods prepared with watercress and dandelion greens as well as clove, sage, cinnamon, poppy seed, anise, mint, nutmeg, sage and cardamom will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Four of Disks

Weekly Tarotcast™:  3-07-17 through 3-14-17

 Four of Disks

fourofdisks

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Four of Disks. This card indicates the ways we hang on to or cling to our possessions – material and otherwise.  We’re willing to work hard and will sacrifice our long-term goals for immediate gain, which in some circumstances is a positive. However, the darker side of this energy is that we tend to be possessive and there’s a definite lack of satisfaction in what we’re guarding and holding so closely.  There’s a sense of poverty or scarcity consciousness to this card, and often if we cling too tightly to what we consider our “wealth” with no enjoyment of it or even practical use for it, it ceases to be of any value.

There are benefits to being frugal and smart with a dollar – that’s the middle-ground of this card. But we do need to remind ourselves that if we’re hanging on to every red cent until old Abe Lincoln screams, we’re coming from a place of fear that will rarely serve us or bring more wealth – or abundance consciousness – our way.

The Fours of the Minor Arcana are where the form and structure of their respective elements and suits are stabilized and nurtured for further development and manifestation. They bring unification, domestication, reflection, or gestation in events and situations.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life this card represents the formula 4: sephiroth or sphere 4, Chesed (meaning Mercy – the sphere of Jupiter and materialization), in the suit of Disks (Assiah, the material world – assets and resources; the element of Earth – our physical bodies and senses) plus the Sun in Capricorn (more on that in a moment) equaling Power.

Astrologically, this card symbolizes the Sun in Capricorn and rules from 20 to 30 degrees Capricorn, or January 10th through January 19th so if your birthday falls on or between those dates you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. The Sun is a reminder of the positive strengths of this card.   Careful guarding and tending of what we value and being attentive to our resources without becoming miserly will serve our long-term goals for building security.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is currently transiting Water-sign Pisces.

On March 9th Mars enters Capricorn’s fellow Earth-sign Taurus. The best use of this energy is assessing our values and priorities, and becoming very clear about what’s truly important in our lives. Some of what we once valued may no longer serve us, and we’ll be considering new and better options for using our energy and resources.

With the Full Moon in the third Earth-sign, Virgo on March 12th, we’ll have the combined energies of an Earth sign trifecta during this forecast period. Opposing the Sun in Pisces, this Virgo Full Moon heightens the energy of this forecast period – to know what we truly value and hold onto it, but not so tightly or stubbornly that we smother its energy. And especially with the Sun in Pisces, remember that all that glitters isn’t gold. Don’t be distracted by “shiny things.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes compulsive behavior, stubbornness and stagnation – we can too easily become “penny-wise and pound-foolish.”

Let’s focus on using earthly power and material assets as instruments for good and positive endeavors.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include indigo, black and dark gray combined with orange, red-orange, amber and gold.

Onyx, jet, garnet and opal along with ruby, amber and carnelian worn as jewelry, or carried as power stones will give you a good judgment in determining the cost of things in relation to their worth.

Lead is this week’s metal so choose to wear the yellow gold of the Sun instead. There’s literal alchemy at work here – the ancient alchemists strove to turn base metal (lead) into gold.

Scent your home, bath and body with snowdrop, heliotrope, juniper, marigold, orange, rosemary, acacia, cedar, cinnamon, clove, and frankincense to open up a healthy perspective on what it truly means to have wealth and abundance in your life.

Foods prepared with nightshade-family foods (tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, eggplant) as well as galangal, orange, rosemary, cinnamon, clove and sunflower seeds or juniper berries will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Six of Cups

Weekly Tarotcast™:  2-28-17 through 3-07-17

 Six of Cups

SixofCups

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Six of Cups. The meaning of this card is pleasure in all its many forms – well-being, harmony, natural desires operating without effort or strain, ease and satisfaction; and most definitely including physical and sexual pleasure. Here there is joy, fulfillment and emotional renewal, sometimes linked to our fondest wishes, memories and nostalgia for the past.

When the element of Water is penetrated and fertilized by the Sun, great power is released. The deep satisfaction of nearly-inexhaustible creativity comes through the power of the feminine principle energized by union with the male – the Yin and Yang, as represented beautifully in this card.

The sixes of the Minor Arcana restore harmony and balance to their respective suits and elements.  After the disruption of the fives – cleansing, regenerating, reassessing and creating conflict in a previously stable system – the sixes bring affirmation, confirmation, validation and solidification.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, this card represents the formula 6: sephiroth or sphere 6, Tiphareth (meaning Beauty, sphere of the Sun; energy in complete, balanced manifestation) in the suit of Cups (Briah, the creative world; the element of Water and the emotions) plus the Sun in Scorpio (more on that in a moment) equaling Pleasure.

Astrologically, this card symbolizes the Sun in Scorpio and rules from 10 to 20 degrees Scorpio, or November 2nd through November 12th, so if your birthday falls on or between those dates you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. The Sun brings out the warm, sensuous and even fun-loving side of the Scorpion.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is currently transiting Scorpio’s fellow Water-sign, Pisces. When retrograde Jupiter (in Air-sign Libra) opposes Uranus on March 2nd, we will likely benefit more from introspection or assessment of our recent plans and goals than overt action or over-reliance on luck.

Venus retrogrades in Fire-sign Aries on March 4th so if we’ve rushed into anything, we may find ourselves bogged down in delays and even reversals or turnarounds. Particularly in our romantic relationships and our pursuit of physical and emotional pleasure, during this forecast period slower is better.

This week’s card is also a perfect energetic match for Fat Tuesday (Mardi Gras)!

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes escape from reality and emotional imprisonment in or by the past.

Let’s focus on rich, positive emotional experiences and utilizing our creative power this week.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include yellow, orange, golden yellow, amber and red along with deep blue-green and dark brown.

Topaz, ruby, jet, amber carnelian, diamond and tiger’s eye worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will heighten our physical senses and creativity.

Gold, iron and plutonium are this week’s metals – only gold of course, is really wearable. In this case yellow gold is your best choice.  But the strength of iron and the reactivity of plutonium can serve as good reminders of what happens when we release our creative spirit.

Scent your home, bath and body with heather, sweet basil, marigold, orange, rosemary, acacia, cedar, cinnamon, clove, and frankincense to stimulate your creativity and to connect fully with all of your physical senses this week. Feeling seductive? You’ll be dynamite, so be careful!

Foods prepared with sweet basil, sunflower seeds, galangal, oranges, rosemary, cinnamon and clove as well as beverages brewed from hops (beer!) or juniper (gin!), in moderation of course, will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: The Sun

Weekly Tarotcast™:  2-21-17 through 2-28-17

 The Sun

19-thesun

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Sun. This card is one of the planetary trumps of the Tarot.  In some older fortune-telling traditions, the Sun is interpreted as the questioner, or the face that the questioner shows to the world.  Another, more modern way of interpreting this card is that the Sun reminds us that we are each a solar being.  We are light-beings in physical bodies, here in the material world.

This week we can enjoy rewards and recognition for our hard work, experience success, and even feel a sense of vindication if we’ve had to struggle through opposition or obstacles to bring a task to completion.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life this card travels Path 30,  joining sephiroth or sphere 8, Hod (meaning Splendor) with sephiroth or sphere 9, Yesod (meaning Foundation).  Its Hebrew letter is “Resh” (meaning “head”), and if you think about the face we show the world, that makes perfect sense. Also, as solar beings in physical bodies, our brains, eyes, ears, noses and mouths – many of the important ways with which we connect to our world and also with the divine – are located in the prime real estate right above our necks.

Astrologically, this card is – you guessed it – the planetary trump of the Sun (what else could it be, really?)

In real-time astrology, the Sun is currently transiting Water-sign Pisces. When Mercury enters Pisces on February 25th, we are attuned to subtle cues and we absorb information and impressions subliminally. During this forecast period we communicate with imagination and sensitivity, but we may have some difficulty focusing on details and meeting commitments.

We’ll also experience a New Moon Solar eclipse in Pisces on February 26th

The last of a set of eclipses along the Virgo-Pisces axis. We may feel this as a strong push from the cosmos to take good care of our physical and mental health, and to achieve a good work-life balance. The sign of Pisces influences our imagination, dreams, ideals, compassion and the ways in which we may be of service to our fellow beings.

Combined with the energy of this week’s card, a spotlight (or bright sunlight) will illuminate any flaws in the major areas of our lives. This can be an invitation to review and revise our plans, or to start fresh in a new direction.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes arrogance, egotism or smug self-assurance. Even this card has a shadow side (the Sun’s light does create shadows, right?), so we would do well to avoid illusions or delusions of grandeur.

Let’s focus on enjoying success, cultivating optimism, and remembering that big goals and dreams require intention and work to come into being.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors for this week include orange, yellow, gold and red.

Gold is this week’s metal. In this case, yellow or rose gold – and it’s great for wearing so that we can feel the positive power and glory of the sun operating in our lives.

Amber, ruby, diamond, carnelian and tiger’s eye worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will give us sunny confidence and a positive outlook this week.

Scent your home, bath and body with marigold, sunflower, heliotrope, orange, rosemary, cedar and frankincense to feel warm, outgoing, confident and positive (but not arrogant!) this week.

Foods prepared with orange, rosemary, galangal, cinnamon, clove and sunflower seeds, or beverages made with hops (beer!) or juniper (gin!) – enjoyed in moderation, of course – will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: The Aeon

Weekly Tarotcast™:  2-14-17 through 2-21-17

 The Aeon

20-TheAeon

Happy Valentine’s Day!

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Aeon.  This card is called “Judgment,” and also “The Last Judgment” in many Tarot systems. This card signifies a spiritual awakening, releasing the past, paying off old debts (both material and karmic), and starting a fresh chapter in our lives with a new (or renewed) sense of personal responsibility and self-direction.

Many people wonder why Crowley changed the name of this particular card (as he did several others) in his Thoth Tarot.  To avoid writing a dissertation, let it suffice to say that he believed that the event depicted in other Tarot systems – that of the world being literally destroyed by fire – was an obsolete concept.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, this card travels path 31, joining sephiroth or sphere 8, Hod (meaning Splendor) with sephiroth or sphere 10, Malkuth (meaning Kingdom). Its Hebrew letter is Shin – which is represented as both three headed and four headed. In Kabbalah, the three-headed shin is the shin of this world while the four- headed shin is the shin of the World to Come.  One meaning of Shin is “change;” it also means “tooth.” When things are in a state of transformational flux, a rush to judgment – or an error in judgment – can “bite” us you-know-where.

Astrologically, this card is the elemental trump of Fire and of Spirit. The Thoth Tarot card depicts the Egyptian God Horus –  the God of Force (Spirit) and Fire ascendant, taking his place as the Lord of the new Aeon after spiritually destroying the old world by fire. It only looks like the end of the world to those who can’t accept that old points of view can be – and are being – replaced by or integrated with new ones.

In real-time astrology, we’re in the opposite element to that of this week’s card – it’s water, water everywhere. On February 14th Jupiter (retrograde in Libra) is quincunx Chiron in Water-sign Pisces. When two planets form a quincunx, or in this case a planet and an asteroid, it’s very difficult for them to get along and communicate with each other.

We may find ourselves disillusioned by something or someone. We may struggle to balance our spiritual needs with our romantic/relational needs, and to maintain compassion as well as drive in our relationships. Avoid the temptation to slip into “people-pleaser” mode, and don’t rush to go against your beliefs or better judgment (there’s that word again!)   We may also question our goals, beliefs, or faith – feelings of doubt and uncertainty run high during this forecast period.

On February 18th, the Sun enters Pisces and we become more understanding, forgiving, and compassionate. Spiritual development comes into stronger focus. The caution here is that all the Fire and Force of this week’s energy can dry up the tender, delicate, dreamlike beginnings of Pisces’ watery ideas and ideals before they are fully-formed and can stand on their own.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes self-delusion, egomaniacal obsessions, megalomania and limited, ego-based perceptions of reality.

Let’s focus on the rebirth, renewal and awakening that are the best and most positive manifestations of this card’s energy.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include scarlet, orange, gold, crimson and emerald (for Fire) as well as white, violet and the colors of the prismatic spectrum (for Spirit).

Diamonds, carnelian, ruby, garnet and fire opal worn as jewelry, or carried as power stones will awaken the energy of both Fire and Spirit united.

Gold and brass are this week’s metals – wear gold (especially yellow or rose gold) if you can!

Scent your home, bath and body with hibiscus, red poppies, thistle and juniper to unite the positive, dynamic power of Fire and the transcendent energy of Spirit in your life this week!

Foods prepared with bay leaf, allspice, juniper berries, basil, cinnamon, garlic, lime, oranges and red peppers; as well as hibiscus tea or tasty, herbaceous gin, (in moderation please!) will provide the same beneficial effects.
