Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Five of Disks

Weekly Tarotcast™: 11-06-18 through 11-13-18

Five of Disks

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Five of Disks. This suit is also called Pentacles or Coins. This card symbolizes anxiety over money or other material resources. All manner of unpleasant “what ifs” and worst-case-scenarios stubbornly clutter up our thinking.

The Fives of the Minor Arcana challenge the order and structure of their respective suits and elements. Things get shaken out of complacency, stagnation or stasis. They bring a period of cleansing, regeneration, or reassessment in events and relationships. The fives keep energy flowing, or the solidification and stability created by the fours would degenerate into inertia.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, this card represents the formula 5: sephiroth or sphere 5, Geburah (meaning Strength, sphere of Mars; storms, stress and motion), in the suit of Disks (Assiah, the material world; the element of Earth – our physical bodies, assets and resources) plus Mercury in Taurus (more on that in a moment) equaling Worry.

Astrologically, this card represents Mercury in Taurus and rules from 0 to 10 degrees Taurus, or April 21st to April 30th, so if your birthday falls on or between those dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. Mercury in Taurus can be patient, practical and conservative. However, the wrench in the works here is Martial energy – disturbing, disruptive and eager for action – working up the monkey-mind into a frenzy of worry.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is transiting Water-sign Scorpio (through November 22nd). Mars was the traditional ruler of Scorpio before Pluto gained and then lost its planetary status. On October 31st Retrograde Venus moved back into Air-sign Libra (through November 16th). Libra shares its ruling planet Venus with the sign of Taurus. Hear that strange vibration like the striking of a tuning fork? That’s all the complementary energy bouncing around as the transiting planets influence the signs they’re currently moving through while a reciprocal energy resonates in the signs that share these planets.

This forecast period is a great time to prepare for the upcoming Mercury retrograde in Fire-sign Sagittarius on November 16h, just as Venus stations direct. The New Moon in Scorpio on November 7th can help us look our worst imaginary fears, worries and anxieties squarely in the eye, and stare them down.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes harsh judgment, fear and inflexibility in the face of change, negative obsession over imagined loss or poverty, and obstinacy.

Let’s focus on careful thought and action, working smart rather than hard, and even exercising some guarded optimism this week.

A little home alchemy: Power colors this week include red, orange, indigo, olive and warm brown (for Taurus) as well as yellow, purple and gray (for Mercury).

Sapphire, diamond, emerald, turquoise, jade, jasper and topaz worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will help us stay positive while welcoming change – sometimes a temporary loss leads to greater gain. And sometimes the things we worry about the most never actually happen.

Mercury (of course!), zinc and copper are this week’s metals. Only copper is wearable, but mercury’s fluidity and sensitivity; as well as zinc’s strengthening properties (as an alloy) and health benefits (as an essential mineral in the human body) are good reminders of the benefits each can have for us.

Scent your home, bath and body with violet, rose, rosemary, valerian, lavender, lilac, and vervain to quiet your mind and calm your thoughts this week.

Foods prepared with parsley, dill, rosemary, lavender, mace, lemongrass and peppermint as well as tea brewed from peppermint or valerian will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Adjustment

Weekly Tarotcast™: 10-30-18 through 11-06-18

Adjustment

The weekly Tarotcast card is Adjustment. In the Tarot deck I use (Thoth), this card is number 8 of the Major Arcana. However, in many decks the card is called Justice and is number 11 of the Majors. Confused yet? Don’t be. By either its number or its name, the energy here is perfectly balanced, impartial, detached and objective. It represents karmic justice in the highest sense – and it shows us karma for what it truly is – a balancing and harmonizing force in the Universe. The Egyptian Goddess Maat is pictured on this card. Maat judged the souls of the dead by weighing them against one single ostrich feather (ostrich plumes were her sacred symbol).

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, this card travels path 22, joining sephiroth or sphere 5, Geburah (meaning Severity) to sephiroth or sphere 6, Tiphareth (meaning Beauty). This card’s Hebrew letter is Lamed – meaning an ox goad (or whip). That’s a pretty strong symbol for justice and the meting out of punishment, wouldn’t you say? This is one reason – but not the only one – that in designing the Thoth Tarot, Aleister Crowley swapped the number of this card, 8 – with the number 11 of the Strength card (which just to further confuse and confound you, Crowley calls “Lust”). I won’t go into more explanation or I’ll need to write a dissertation.

Astrologically, this card is the zodiacal trump of Libra, with Venus as its ruler and Saturn exalted. Again, this is perfectly in keeping with the idea of Justice – the balancing scales of Libra and Saturn’s highest energy – the fulfillment of obligations and responsibilities, both practical and karmic.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is transiting Water-sign Scorpio (through November 22nd). On October 31st Retrograde Venus moves back into Libra. This transit has a strong influence on both love and finances. Things may simply not be straightforward during this period. It’s a better time to review and reflect rather than plunging ahead into new endeavors. Unusual alliances, experimental relationships or those not involving physical intimacy may take priority at this time. When Venus formed a conjunction with the Sun on October 26th, relationship issues were placed under a microscope. This transit in combination with this week’s card can bring about fateful or karmic events – powerful energy is in effect. Venus remains retrograde until November 16th. On October 31st Mercury enters Fire-sign Sagittarius. Jupiter trines Chiron on November 1st, raising our vibrations and allowing us to liberate ourselves from negative or restricting attitudes and beliefs that may have been impeding our progress.

Mercury intensifies this influence with its alignment to Jupiter on October 29th and we’ll be focused on the big picture and the ultimate goal – not the details. We express our message with optimism and enthusiasm.

On November 6 Uranus retrograde enters Fire-sign Aries, Libra’s polar opposite sign on the wheel of the zodiac. Be especially careful with money, assets and resources at this time – and in conjunction with this week’s card, use extra caution when entering into lease or purchase agreements, signing contracts, and the like.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes hypocrisy and self-righteousness. Unless we’ve walked a mile in the other person’s Jimmy Choos, better to hold off on a condemnation. Also, we shouldn’t expect from others what we don’t expect from ourselves; “do as I say, not as I do” is a formula for failure under this week’s influences.

Let’s focus on balancing out various areas of our lives this week. Are we overworking, overeating, or otherwise “over” indulging? Time to work in some healthier harmony and choose the middle way rather than the extremes – we’ll be happier, better-rested and more refreshed if we do.

A little home alchemy: Power colors this week include emerald green, pale green and deep blue and deep blue-green.

Sapphire, lapis, emerald, opal and jade along with garnet, onyx and obsidian worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will enhance our sense of fairness, balance, good judgment and the responsible fulfillment of our obligations.

Copper and lead are this week’s metals – copper is clearly the better choice for wearing.

Scent your home, bath and body with violet, rose, bergamot, apple, strawberry and vanilla and use products made from hempseed, olive and grapeseed oil for natural, luxurious indulgence. All of these will help us channel the beauty, pleasure and luxury of Venus balanced with the responsible, pragmatic sobriety of Saturn and Justice – or rather, Adjustment – will come naturally and positively this week!

Foods prepared with apples, strawberries, vanilla, figs, grapes, dates, lentils, thyme and olive or grapeseed oil will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Ace of Swords

Weekly Tarotcast™: 10-23-18 through 10-30-18

Ace of Swords

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Ace of Swords. We’ll be experiencing the benefits of clarity, courage and mental strength this week. This kind of sharp insight is a double-edged blade and can cut both ways, so be sure that you’re using your power for constructive purposes. This is an ideal time to cut away dead weight and illusions, to pare down to core truths. We find ourselves in a decisive mood and we’re able to communicate complex ideas in fresh ways. Problem resolution is strongly favored through this entire period, so make the most of it!

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, the Aces represent the roots of the four elements, Fire, Water, Air and Earth. They are above and distinct from the other Minor Arcana cards in the same way that Kether (the Crown) is above and distinct from the Tree of life while still remaining connected to it. Not to confuse things, but the Aces are the roots or essences of their respective elements without being actual manifestations of them in their material form. They also have a closer relationship with the Princesses (Pages) of their respective suits (Wands, Cups, Swords and Disks) than they do with cards 2 through 10 of those suits.

Astrologically, this card is the root of the powers of Air and rules the Capricorn-Aquarius-Pisces quadrant of the heavens above Earth’s North Pole, and the geographical area of the Americas. Whew! I’m glad that’s done – I bet you are too.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life this card represents the 1st sephiroth or sphere of Kether (the Crown, origin) through the element of Air – Yetzirah; the Formative world and the intellect, our thinking mind.

Astrologically, for interpretive purposes, this card incorporates the energy, qualities and characteristics of the three Air signs – clarity (Gemini), justice (Libra) and rebellion (Aquarius).

In real-time astrology, the Sun concludes its transit of Air-sign Libra on the first day of this forecast period, entering into Water-sign Scorpio. Retrograde Venus is currently transiting Scorpio but will move back into Libra immediately following this forecast period on October 31st. Retrograde Venus will mostly influence love and finances. Things may simply not be straightforward during this period. It’s a better time to review and reflect rather than plunging ahead into new endeavors.

A Full Moon in Earth-sign Taurus on October 24th awakens strong interest in all aspects of the physical world: money, resources and our bodies’ sensual needs and desires. Be careful about taking stubborn or inflexible stances, especially in conjunction with the energy of this week’s card. Healthy self-interest is necessary and welcome, especially activities and pursuits that promote mind-body harmony.

Don’t forget that a sword is a weapon – a finely crafted tool to cut through any obstacle or confusion. A sword extends the power of its user to fight and prevail. It can wield a cruel force, but also a clean, sharp one. The gift of the Ace of Swords is mental clarity, truth, justice and fortitude.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes restlessness, aggression, belligerence, premature action and limited thinking.

Let’s focus on open-mindedness, the thirst and quest for knowledge, purposeful, constructive thought and decisive power to get the best that this energy has to offer.

A little home alchemy: The power color this week is brilliant white. The purity of the Aces is singular, and doesn’t include shading or gradations, although pure white contains the prismatic colors of the visual spectrum.

Diamonds or clear quartz worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will bring clarity, mental acuity and perceptual sharpness to us this week.

Tin and copper are this week’s metals and correspond to Elemental Air energy. Copper is great for wearing, tin not so much. Both are excellent when alloyed with other metals to enhance strength, flexibility and integrity – enough said.

Scent your home, bath and body with acacia, benzoin, clover, frankincense, lavender, myrrh, pine, vervain (verbena) and yarrow to keep a clear head and to keep your actions steady, impartial and constructive.

Foods prepared with anise, lavender and lemongrass as well as tea brewed from vervain (verbena) will provide the same beneficial effects.

Weekly Tarotcast™: Two of Swords

Weekly Tarotcast™: 10-16-18 through 10-23-18

Two of Swords

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Two of Swords. We’ll be given the opportunity to reconcile differences this week, from a prime position of equilibrium. It’s rare that we can weigh every problem and challenge with the utmost fairness; so make the most of this week’s energies of balance, justice and impartiality to heal old wounds and arrive at win-win solutions to complex problems.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life this card represents the formula 2: sephiroth or sphere 2, Chokmah (meaning Wisdom, sphere of the Zodiac and pure Masculine energy, the All-Father, Yang) in the suit of Swords (Yetzirah, the formative world; the element of Air – our intellect and mental processes) plus the Moon in Libra (more on that in a moment) equaling Peace.

The Twos of the Minor Arcana are the balanced but polarized states of their respective element. The twos are duality, and this is our way of seeing and being in the world in order to understand it; weighing and balancing things against their opposites – good vs. bad, dark vs. light, positive vs. negative. Until we differentiate, we can’t resolve and unify.

Astrologically, this card represents the Moon in Libra, and rules from 0 to 10 degrees Libra, or September 23rd through October 2nd so if your birthday falls on or between these dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. Swords are the suit of war, disruption and violence and the old name of this card was Peace Restored – we can look at this card as a welcome but temporary break from conflict with a chance to make some genuine, positive changes.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is transiting Air-sign Libra (through October 23rd), and we experienced a New Moon in Libra prior to this forecast period (October 8th). This energy makes our relationships a priority and focuses our attention squarely on taking charge of them. It’s also perfect for working on our partnership and negotiation skills; and for resolving conflicts – all of which are harmonious with the energy of this week’s card.

Venus turned retrograde in Water-sign Scorpio on October 5th (Libra’s next-door-neighbor – through November 16th) but will move back into Libra on October 31st. Retrograde Venus will mostly influence love and finances. Things may simply not be straightforward during this period. It’s a better time to review and reflect rather than plunging ahead into new endeavors. Often during a Venus retro old friends and lovers may re-appear in our lives and could complicate current relationships. We are also more likely to reminisce about the past. This energy can be helpful in dealing with – and healing – past relationship issues.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes unresolved tensions, indecision, and an inability or unwillingness to take action.

Let’s focus on fulfilling our quest for knowledge and positive, constructive, peaceful activities this week.

A little home alchemy: Power colors this week include blue, blue-green, emerald green and silver.

Opal, lapis, sapphire and moonstone worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will help us with our impartial assessment of people and situations and help us draw correct conclusions and exercise good judgment.

Copper and silver are this week’s metals – copper is believed to have therapeutic properties, silver is always a beautiful choice.

Scent your home, bath and body with violet, white rose, poppy, water lily, gardenia, jasmine, myrrh and sandalwood for peaceful thoughts and calm deliberation.

Foods prepared with coconut, lotus root or teas brewed from wintergreen (mint) or jasmine will provide the same beneficial effects.

The Tarotcast comes to you FREE each week, with a new post every Tuesday!

Weekly Tarotcast™: Ten of Disks

Weekly Tarotcast™: 10-09-18 through 10-16-18

Ten of Disks

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Ten of Disks (this suit is also called Pentacles or Coins). This week’s energy is focused on financial prosperity as well as building on a firm foundation for our personal and family life. Materially, we find ways to grow our assets and resources. We also find creative ways to put money to good use through wise investing or smart budgeting.

The Tens of the Minor Arcana are the completion, full manifestation and culmination of the energy of their respective suits and elements.

This Ten is special, as it is the very last Tarot card: the point at which spirit manifests fully as matter, and the point which signals the reintegration of matter into spirit. It is a complete picture of the cycle of regeneration. Unlike any of the other small cards including the Tens of the other suits, the Ten of Disks has a unique mission. From the very bottom of the cosmos, it must somehow link to the innermost secret of creation and reincarnate at the very top of the Tarot cycle. Its job is nothing less than to regenerate the world.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, this card represents the formula 10: sephiroth or sphere 10, Malkuth (meaning Kingdom – the material world) in the suit of Disks (the element of Earth, Assiah – our physical bodies, and material assets or resources) plus Mercury in Virgo (more on that in a moment) equaling Wealth.

Astrologically this card corresponds to Mercury in Virgo. It rules from 20 to 30 degrees Virgo, or September 12th through September 22nd, so if your birthday falls on or between those dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. Many people forget that Mercury rules the sign of Virgo (as well as Gemini). Mercury’s creativity and cleverness are turned to practical and productive endeavors in Virgo, so our own intelligence and willingness to work smarter rather than harder reaps big rewards this week.

In real-time astrology, the Sun continues its transit of Virgo’s next-door-neighbor, Air-sign Libra (through October 23rd). On October 9th Mercury enters Water-sign Scorpio (through October 31st) and we look deep beneath the surface of events. The exploration of hidden or previously untapped aspects of practical and material matters is highlighted during this forecast period. We may discover assets or resources that were unknown to us, but work to our benefit.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes greed for money and material possessions; it also indicates a lack of understanding of the connection between the physical and the spiritual worlds.

Let’s focus on discovering the value of everyday things and understanding that wealth is more than how much money we have in our wallets or our bank accounts.

A little home alchemy: Power colors this week include yellow, purple, grey and indigo for Mercury as well as green and plum for Virgo.

Carnelian, jade and jasper worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will help us feel comfortable, secure and generous.

This week’s metals are platinum (how’s that for feeling rich?) and of course Mercury – which can’t be worn or handled safely. Wear platinum if you’re lucky enough to own it; or mindfully aspire to it – you never know what you can attract until you try.

Scent your home, bath and body with valerian, lavender, lily of the valley and lilac to bring a sense of abundant well-being into your environment.

Foods prepared with rosemary, parsley, dill, peppermint and lemongrass will provide the same beneficial effects.
