Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Five of Cups – Free Tarot Reading

Weekly Tarotcast™: 9-24-19 through 10-01-19

Five of Cups

5 of Cups Thoth Tarot card.

The Five of Cups, a free Tarot reading for you. This week’s Tarotcast card focuses on disappointment, regret and loss. Notice I say focused on. We may be dwelling on negative feelings from past experiences. We’d be better off focusing on events that are actually occurring here and now, in the present.

The Elements

Here, Fire and Water seek mutual annihilation rather than cooperation. Scorpio’s waters dissolve and putrefy, thwarting Mars’ action.

The Number 5

The Fives of the Minor Arcana challenge order and structure. Their suit and element get shaken out of complacency, stagnation or stasis. They bring a period of cleansing, regeneration, or reassessment in events and relationships. The number 5 keeps energy flowing. Otherwise, the solidification and stability created by the fours would degenerate into inertia.

Kabbalah

On the Tree of Life, this card represents the formula 5. We begin with sephiroth or sphere 5, Geburah (Strength). The sphere of Mars; motion, aggression, storms and stress. Combined with the suit of Cups (Briah, the creative world, the element of Water – our emotions). Plus Mars in Scorpio equaling “Disappointment.”

Astrology

This card represents Mars in Scorpio. It rules from 0 to 10 degrees Scorpio (October 23rd to November 1st). If your birthday falls on or between those dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. This attribution wouldn’t appear to be a problem. Mars was the traditional ruler of Scorpio before Pluto’s discovery. With Pluto demoted (or is it a planet again?) Mars becomes its only ruling planet once again. Issues arise from Mars being too comfortably at home here. Mars’ wants fiery, disruptive action. Scorpio seeks watery, deep and secretive transformation.

In real-time astrology, the Sun entered Air-sign Libra on September 23rd. This is the autumn equinox and first day of fall in the Northern Hemisphere. Next-door neighbors on the wheel of the Zodiac, Libra has lessons for Scorpio. Rational, mental Air energy can harmonize with emotional Water’s deep, intuitive understanding. This combination can bring the head and heart into alignment. From this perspective we have a nice complement to the energy of this week’s card.

Saturn opposes the True North Node of the Moon on September 28th. This energy intensifies that of this week’s card. Clinging to old beliefs and habits prevents us from growing. Fear of change can keep us stuck in what’s familiar even if that no longer serves us.

New Moon in Libra on September 28th. The energy of this lunation is optimistic and cooperative. We’ll pay more attention to our relationships. This energy is excellent for negotiation and building partnerships. This is also a great time for resolving conflicts.

Shadow

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes resistance to change. We’re unable to release negative feelings and we’re clinging to negative past events. Obsession with past mistakes (our own or those of others) creates bitterness.

Light

Let’s focus on letting bygones be bygones, picking up the pieces, and moving forward. We have the ability through conscious choice to focus on what we DO have. This is preferable to dwelling on what we’ve lost or haven’t yet received or accomplished.

Alchemy

Power colors: scarlet red, black, azure blue and deep greenish-blue.

Power stones: ruby, bloodstone, garnet and jet (Mars). Or, choose topaz (Scorpio). Worn as jewelry or carried as power stones, these will help balance and mellow out the intense energy. They allow us to gain new hope by relinquishing the past.

Power metals: iron (Mars) and plutonium (Pluto). Neither is good for wearing. They do remind us that strength coupled with adaptability can serve us well. If ill-used, destruction results.

Power fragrances: heather, wild rose, pine, carnation and poppy. These will help us process past experiences. We can heal, take action in the present and move into the future.

Power foods: sweet basil, allspice, cayenne, garlic, ginger and pepper. All will enhance the benefits previously described.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: 7 of Wands

Weekly Tarotcast™: 9-17-19 through 9-24-19

7 of Wands

7 of Wands

The 7 of Wands is this week’s Tarotcast card. This card warns us that we may be wasting our energy this week. There is a struggle going on for sure. Feelings of bravery and assertiveness against feelings of degeneration and weakness. There are challenges and obstacles galore. We may feel as if no one has our back – our struggle is ours alone, and there may not be much help or support. If we do achieve a victory, it’s likely to come through our own efforts.

The Elements

The Fire of Leo burns hot with bravery and inspiring leadership. But it can also lose itself in the heat of Martial battle, destroying everything in sight. Discipline dissolves into chaos and disorder.

The Number 7

The Sevens of the Minor Arcana illustrate the motives behind manifestation. The balance of the sixes gives way to questioning and exploration. Disruption arises from the search for the underlying causes of action. The Sevens dissolve and deconstruct.

Kabbalah

On the Tree of Life this card represents the formula 7. Sephiroth or sphere 7, Netzach (Victory) sphere of Venus. Illusion, imbalance, weakness. In the suit of Wands (Atziluth, the archetypal world). The element of Fire; the will. Plus Mars in Leo equaling Valour.

Astrology

The 7 of Wands card represents Mars in Leo. It rules from 20 to 30 degrees Leo, or August 12th through August 22nd. If your birthday falls on or between these dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. Mars in Leo is ambitious and idealistic, with the ability to persevere. Valour is another word for courage. In this case it may come across as vanity, bravado, false machismo, or senseless resistance.

In real-time astrology, the Sun continues its transit of Earth-sign Virgo through September 23rd. It enters Air-sign Libra on the Autumnal Equinox, the first day of fall. Virgo’s practical energy can help offset some of the negative aspects of this week’s card. Libra’s calm and diplomatic nature can also offer some relief. Venus-ruled Libra corresponds to this card’s position on the Tree of Life. Netzach, sphere of Venus has a weakening effect. Cool, rational thinking may save the day.

Saturn turns direct on September 18th in its home sign of Earthy Capricorn. We’re ready to fulfill our responsibilities. Our goals are realistic. We’re aware of our limitations, but clear about our long-term plans.

Shadow

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes indecisiveness. Blind ignorance. Swaggering arrogance with nothing to back it up. A mismatch between our assertiveness and our plain old good sense. If there was ever a week to choose your battles wisely, this would be the one.

Light

Let’s focus on conserving our energy. Let’s use it as positively as we can. More, let’s realize that sometimes the most courageous thing we can do is forgo a battle – just skip it. Bravery can mean walking away from a battle we’re guaranteed to lose.

Alchemy

Power colors: amber, all shades of red, yellow and deep purple.

Power metals: Mars iron and Leo gold. Wear the Leo (yellow or rose) gold to remind you of Leo’s big-hearted courage but skip the Lion’s arrogance and vanity. We can’t wear iron, but it can remind us of when to show true strength and what that looks like.

Power stones: ruby, bloodstone, garnet, amber and diamond. Wear as jewelry or carry as power stones to avoid the tendency to be hot-headed or combative this week.

Power fragrances: marigold, sunflower, wild rose, pine, and tobacco (no, you don’t need to smoke it!). These will keep us focused on winnable battles, and to make good use of our energy and time.

Power foods: foods prepared with allspice, cayenne, garlic, ginger and pepper. Also thistle (think artichokes!) Along with beverages made from hops (beer), or wormwood (the Green Fairy – absinthe). In moderation, of course. All will enhance the benefits previously described.

Your Weekly Tarotcast: Two of Pentacles

Weekly Tarotcast™: 9-10-19 through 9-17-19

Two of Pentacles (Disks)

This week’s Tarotcast card is the Two of Pentacles. This suit is also called Coins and in my favorite Tarot deck, Disks (pictured above). This card represents the ways in which we’re able to maintain balance and harmony in the midst of change.

Like a juggling act, we’re managing to keep all the balls in the air or keep all the plates spinning. We’re also adjusting for internal and environmental fluctuations. This is the kind of multi-tasking that actually works. There is no benefit in trying to do many things at once but doing none of them very well. Instead, we’re making skilled, split-second changes. Our attention and priorities are in flux, but we keep everything going in the proper rhythm.

The Elements

The primal matter of Earth is also the throne of Spirit. The serpent forming the infinity symbol on this card depicts the unending cycle of matter becoming Spirit and Spirit becoming matter.

The Number 2

The Twos of the Minor Arcana show balanced but polarized states. The twos are duality. This is our way of seeing and being in the world to understand it. Here we weigh and balance things against their opposites. Good vs. bad, dark vs. light, positive vs. negative. Until we differentiate, we can’t resolve and unify.

Kabbalah

On the Tree of Life this card represents the formula 2. Sephiroth or sphere 2, Chokmah (Wisdom). The sphere of the Zodiac, and Divine Masculine or Yang energy. In the suit of Disks (Assiah, the material world). The element of Earth- our physical bodies, material assets and resources. Plus Jupiter in Capricorn equaling Change.

Astrology

This card corresponds to Jupiter in Capricorn. It rules from zero to 10 degrees Capricorn, or December 22nd through December 30th. If your birthday falls on or between these dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. Jupiter in Capricorn is at its best when it can organize. It leads through a disciplined, step-by-step plan of action.

In real-time astrology, the Sun continues its transit of Earth-sign Virgo. On September 14th both Venus and Mercury enter Air-sign Libra. With Venus in Libra
We seek harmony and balance. We will go to great lengths to avoid discord and conflict.

Mercury in Libra brings a time of Indecisiveness. We try to weigh opposing viewpoints. We want to cooperate with others and reach consensus. negotiating, or arbitration during this cycle.

The September 14th Full Moon in Water-sign Pisces combines with the opposition of Neptune and Mars in Pisces. This challenging pattern finds us on the brink of taking decisive action. But getting our thoughts in order and putting our plans into action is difficult. The atmosphere of uncertainty causes hesitation.

Shadow

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes unreliability and uncertainty. Imbalance and insecurity. Indecision, not adapting to cyclical changes, and a lack of direction.

Light

Let’s focus on the positive side of instability (and yes, there really is one!) by being flexible and adaptive while keeping our eyes on the goal or purpose we’re aiming for.

Alchemy

Power colors: violet, blue, rich purple and yellow (Jupiter). Indigo, black and grey (Capricorn).

Power stones: sapphire, amethyst and diamond along with onyx, jet, garnet and opal. Wear as jewelry or carry as power stones to enhance the beneficial effects of Jupiter in Capricorn. Expansion of reputation and influence. Good social and professional standing.

Power metals: lead and tin. Neither particularly good for wearing. Both are useful when alloyed (and allied) with other metals to increase flexibility and endurance.

Power fragrances: carnation, poppy, heliotrope, honeysuckle and cedar. These keep you alert and flexible as you adapt and adjust to changing priorities and demands.

Power foods: foods prepared with clove, sage, cinnamon, mint and nutmeg. Also the tasty (and healthy) members of the nightshade family: potatoes, tomatoes, bell peppers, hot peppers and eggplant. All will enhance the benefits previously described.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Four of Cups Tarot

Weekly Tarotcast™: 9-03-19 through 9-10-19

Four of Cups Tarot

Four of Cups Tarot

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Four of Cups. The Four of Cups Tarot is protective and nurturing. These are qualities associated with the maternal instinct. Caring, affection and emotional stability will be recurring themes during this week.

We will likely be looking for ways to express unconditional love. This can contribute to a period of relative ease and feelings of security. Yet, this energy borders on being too much of a good thing. “Mothering” turns into smothering when we attempt to bind, restrict or limit others in the name of “love”.

The Elements

The fluid element of Water does not contain itself or conform to structure. Unstable liquid needs something outside itself to impose order.

The Number 4

The Fours of the Minor Arcana bring form and structure to their respective elements. Here is stability and nurturing for further development and manifestation. The Fours bring unification, domestication, reflection, or gestation to events and situations.

Kabbalah

On the Tree of Life, this card represents the formula 4. Sephiroth or sphere 4, Chesed (Mercy, the sphere of Jupiter and the rule of law). Plus the suit of Cups (Briah, the Creative world; the element of Water – our heart and emotions). Plus the Moon in Cancer (more on that in a moment), equaling “Luxury.”

Astrology

This card corresponds to the Moon in Cancer. It rules from 20 to 30 degrees Cancer, or July 12th through July 21st. If your birthday falls on or between these dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. The Moon rules the sign of Cancer and is very much at home in this most home-y of the signs. Comfort, coziness and nesting instincts will be very much in evidence this week.

In real-time astrology, the Sun continues its transit of Earth-sign Virgo. The earthy, pragmatic energy of the planets in Virgo brings healing and resolution. The recent new Moon in Virgo motivates us to improve our lives. We organize and refine our work. We pay more positive attention to our health. We can enjoy a period of creativity, fertility and productivity. This energy complements the positive aspects of this week’s card.

As a cardinal Water sign, Cancer needs to take emotional action. Support, nurturing and encouragement are second-nature. The goal here is to balance that by respecting personal boundaries. Love that confines and restricts kills the object of affection.

Shadow

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of the Four of Cups Tarot card includes possessiveness. Attempts to control and manipulate through the emotions. It reminds us how easy it is to go from comfort to crushing boredom. Sliding from cozy familiarity into contempt, the winds of rebellion can blow hard.

Light

Let’s focus on the sense of being emotionally grounded by loving energy. Enjoy restful domesticity this week, knowing it is a temporary state. Use this energy to recharge your batteries before going back out into the world. You can’t stay here forever.

Alchemy

Power colors: blue, pearl white and silver for the Moon as well as amber, maroon and bright russet for Cancer.

Power stones: emerald, cat’s eye, pearl, opal, rock crystal and moonstone. Wear as jewelry or carry as power stones. They will help you balance the need for cocooning with the need for outside stimuli.

Power metals: silver. Wear it to feel stable, caring and affectionate.

Power fragrances: poppy, white rose, water lily, coconut, gardenia, jasmine, lotus, myrrh and sandalwood. They will enhance healthy maternal instincts. Your nurturing, supportive nature also knows when to let go.

Power foods: foods prepared with watercress, poppy seeds, coconut, and wintergreen. Tea brewed from jasmine or wintergreen (mint). All will enhance the benefits previously described.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Adjustment

Weekly Tarotcast™: 8-27-19 through 9-03-19

Tarot cards – Adjustment

The weekly Tarotcast card is Adjustment. In the Tarot deck I use (Thoth), this card is number 8 of the Major Arcana. But, in many decks the card is Justice and is number 11 of the Majors. Confused yet? Don’t be.

In the Tarot cards Adjustment is balanced, impartial, detached and objective. It represents karmic justice in the highest sense. It shows us karma for what it truly is – a balancing and harmonizing force in the Universe. This card depicts the Egyptian Goddess Maat. Maat judged the souls of the dead by weighing them against one single ostrich feather. Ostrich plumes were her sacred symbol.

Kabbalah

On the Tree of Life, this card travels path 22. It joins sephiroth or sphere 5, Geburah (Severity) to sephiroth or sphere 6, Tiphareth (Beauty). This card’s Hebrew letter, Lamed – means an ox goad (or whip). That’s a pretty strong symbol for justice and the meting out of punishment, wouldn’t you say? This is one of many reasons that Aleister Crowley swapped the number of this card, 8 with the number 11 of the Strength card. Which to further confuse and confound you, Crowley calls “Lust”. I won’t go into more explanation or I’ll need to write a dissertation.

Astrology

This card is the zodiacal trump of Libra, with Venus as its ruler and Saturn exalted. Again, this is in keeping with the idea of Justice. The Libra Scales balancing Saturn’s highest energy. The fulfillment of obligations and responsibilities, both practical and karmic.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is transiting Earth-sign Virgo. Venus (ruling planet of Libra) entered Virgo on August 21st. Mercury enters Virgo on August 29th. We also experience a New Moon in Virgo on August 30th. These energies complement the power of balance and correction in this week’s card.

With the New Moon, we have the opportunity to improve our lives. We organize and refine our work. We pay more positive attention to our health. We can enjoy a period of fertility and productivity.

The earthy, pragmatic energy of the planets in Virgo brings healing and resolution. Avoid judgmental attitudes. As a cardinal Air sign, Libra needs to to take action. The goal here is that those actions are fair and unbiased.

Shadow

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes hypocrisy and self-righteousness. Unless we’ve walked a mile in the other person’s Jimmy Choos, better to hold off on a condemnation. Also, we shouldn’t expect from others what we don’t expect from ourselves. “Do as I say, not as I do” is a formula for failure under this week’s influences.

Light

Let’s focus on balancing out various areas of our lives this week. Are we overworking, overeating, or otherwise “over” indulging? Time to work in some healthier harmony. Choose the middle way rather than the extremes – we’ll be happier, better-rested and more refreshed if we do.

Alchemy

Power colors: emerald green, pale green and deep blue and deep blue-green.

Power stones: sapphire, lapis, emerald, opal, jade, garnet, onyx and obsidian. Wear these as jewelry or carry them as power stones. They will enhance our sense of fairness, balance, good judgment. They will help us fulfill our responsibilities and obligations.

Power metals: copper and lead. Copper is the better choice for wearing. Meditate on the idea that lead is very heavy, but also soft and malleable.

Power fragrances: violet, rose, bergamot, apple, strawberry and vanilla. Also, beauty products made from hempseed, olive and grapeseed oils. These are natural, luxurious indulgences. All will help us channel the beauty, pleasure and luxury of Venus. At the same time, they will balance the responsible, pragmatic sobriety of Saturn. Justice – or rather, Adjustment – will come naturally and positively this week!

Power foods: foods prepared with apples, strawberries, vanilla, figs, grapes, dates, lentils, thyme. Also olive or grapeseed oil. All provide the same beneficial effects already described.

The Tarotcast comes to you FREE each week, with a new post every Tuesday!
