Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Fortune

Weekly Tarotcast™: 6-19-18 through 6-26-18

Fortune

The weekly Tarotcast card is Fortune (known as the Wheel of Fortune in many decks). We’ll be experiencing a lot of changes this week. The traditional interpretation of this card is good luck. That’s only partially true – this is the card of our luck – or fortunes – changing: that can mean if our fortunes have been bad, they’re likely to change for the better. But if they’ve been good, the wheel is turning, so it’s a good idea to watch out for obstacles or pitfalls. This card can represent the risk-taker; one who is willing to gamble on an opportunity, not necessarily certain of the result, but able to turn a lucky break to his or her own advantage.

The card symbolizes the only constant in our lives: change. No matter the current situation, remember that it is not forever. The Wheel turns; the cycle changes and progresses; and all that is now will pass away, giving birth to new experiences, circumstances and connections.

This card also represents the Wheel of Karma; there is a feeling that events coming to pass are beyond our control. Understand that whatever is occurring has been created by our deeds and thoughts. The law of Karma operates independently of the concept of blind luck.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life this card travels path 21, joining sephiroth or sphere 4, Chesed (meaning Mercy) to sephiroth or sphere 7, Netzach (meaning Victory). Its Hebrew letter is Kaph, meaning the palm of the hand, and this is an apt image for either the fortune we’re born with (as palmistry would interpret what is written in the lines found there) or the fortune we make through the things we do and the actions we take – what we create through our own efforts.

Astrologically, this card is the planetary trump of Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system. This is the planet of expansion – bigger, better, more.

In real time astrology, the Sun moves into Water-sign Cancer on June 21st. While the Sun moves through this sentimental, emotional, and somewhat secretive sign, we may find our focus shifting to home, family and how we establish and maintain security.

Jupiter is retrograde in Cancer’s fellow Water-sign Scorpio (through July 10th). Jupiter retrograde can be extremely beneficial. During this forecast period we may be focused on transformative changes, death/rebirth, and other deeply personal philosophies and concepts. As we are drawn inward into Scorpio’s mysterious realm, we may be reevaluating our personal lives, relationships or careers. Jupiter retro can be an undisguised blessing for helping us reach a resolution.

On June 18th Neptune begins its retrograde transit of its home Water-sign Pisces. This is a challenging time for honoring limits and boundaries. We’re likely to be more disorganized and have trouble following a routine. We may find ourselves restless and dissatisfied. Watch out for the tendency to take the easy way out, or any other escapist tendencies; it’s better to take clear-minded and well-considered action.

Ending up this forecast period, Mars begins its retrograde transit of Air-sign Aquarius. The energy of this transit makes it difficult for us to act unless we are totally committed and believe completely in the situation or cause we’re dealing with. We are strong supporters of our cause or idea but we may spend more time thinking about it than doing something about it.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes feelings of fatalism, disempowerment and a perceived lack of control over our own course in life.

Let’s focus on the positives, which promise that we can always roll with the inevitable changes that come naturally in life, and that we can gain greater awareness when we transcend polarity (good/bad, up/down, light/dark, etc.)

A little home alchemy: Power colors this week include violet, bright blue, purple and yellow.

Sapphire, amethyst or diamond worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will keep you feeling optimistic and help you take educated and informed “risks.”

This week’s metal is tin – not great for wearing, but often used to improve the strength and flexibility of other metals. So, it’s a good reminder of the powers of adaptation and transformation.

Scent your home, bath and body with poppy and honeysuckle to use Jupiter’s expansive energy to your benefit; recognize opportunities and take some intelligent risks.

Foods prepared with mint, clove, cinnamon, nutmeg and sage will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Six of Cups

Weekly Tarotcast™: 6-05-18 through 6-12-18

Six of Cups

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Six of Cups. This card represents pleasure in all its many forms – well-being, harmony, natural desires operating without effort or strain, ease and satisfaction; and most definitely including physical and sexual pleasure. Here there is joy, fulfillment and emotional renewal, sometimes linked to our fondest wishes, memories and nostalgia for the past.

When the element of Water is penetrated and fertilized by the Sun, great power is released. The deep satisfaction of nearly-inexhaustible creativity comes through the power of the feminine principle energized by union with the male – the Yin and Yang, as symbolized beautifully in this card.

The sixes of the Minor Arcana restore harmony and balance to their respective suits and elements. After the disruption of the fives – cleansing, regenerating, reassessing and creating conflict in a previously stable system – the sixes bring affirmation, confirmation, validation and solidification.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, this card represents the formula 6: sephiroth or sphere 6, Tiphareth (meaning Beauty, sphere of the Sun; energy in complete, balanced manifestation) in the suit of Cups (Briah, the creative world; the element of Water, our emotions) plus the Sun in Scorpio (more on that in a moment) equaling Pleasure.

Astrologically, this card symbolizes the Sun in Scorpio and rules from 10 to 20 degrees Scorpio, or November 2nd through November 12th, so if your birthday falls on or between those dates you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. The Sun brings out the warm, sensuous and even fun-loving side of the Scorpion.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is transiting Air-sign Gemini (through June 21st). This energy is perfect for learning, and communication is on the increase. We’re active and social during this transit; a nice complement to the energy of this week’s card.

Mercury enters Scorpio’s fellow Water-sign, Cancer on June 12th, the last day of this forecast period. We will likely be thinking more, speaking less and processing information on a deeper level during this transit. Our intuition is in high gear and our instincts are spot-on. We’re more interested in how things affect us personally, and how they affect our close friends, family and home life. Emotions are likely to be intense and it will be a challenge to remain objective.

Retrograde Jupiter continues its transit of Scorpio (turning direct on July 10th). Sexuality and intimacy are strongly highlighted with this transit. While there is a desire for deep connection, it is probably best to proceed slowly and steadily toward that desire.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes escape from reality and emotional imprisonment in or by the past.

Let’s focus on rich, positive emotional experiences and utilizing our creative power this week.

A little home alchemy: Power colors this week include yellow, orange, golden yellow, amber and red along with deep blue-green and dark brown.

Topaz, ruby, jet, amber carnelian, diamond and tiger’s eye worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will heighten our physical senses and creativity.

Gold, iron and plutonium are this week’s metals – only gold of course, is really wearable. In this case yellow gold is your best choice. But the strength of iron and the reactivity of plutonium can serve as good reminders of what happens when we release our creative spirit.

Scent your home, bath and body with heather, sweet basil, marigold, orange, rosemary, acacia, cedar, cinnamon, clove, and frankincense to stimulate your creativity and to connect fully with all of your physical senses this week. Feeling seductive? You’ll be dynamite, so be careful!

Foods prepared with sweet basil, sunflower seeds, galangal, oranges, rosemary, cinnamon and clove as well as beverages brewed from hops (beer!) or juniper (gin!), in moderation of course, will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Ten of Swords

Weekly Tarotcast™: 5-29-18 through 6-05-18

 Ten of Swords

TenofSwords

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Ten of Swords.  No trips to happy-land this week, folks. As with all of the other tens of the Minor Arcana, the energy here can’t degenerate any further without completely transforming into the energy of another suit (in this case, the next suit is Disks).  Here, since Swords represent the mind and the intellect – another way of saying the Ego – and, since they are in the final process of destruction, all I can say is “ouch.”  If there is any positive side to this, it’s that despite the pain experienced by the Ego-self, our true Self can come through the process better – and more whole – on the other side.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, this card represents the formula 10: sephiroth or sphere 10, Malkuth (meaning Kingdom, the sphere of the Earth and the material world) in the suit of Swords (the element of Air, our thoughts and mental faculties, Ruach – the intellectual world) plus the Sun in Gemini (more on that in a moment) equaling Ruin.

Astrologically, this card symbolizes the Sun in Gemini. It rules from 20 to 30 degrees Gemini, or June 11th through June 20th so if your birthday falls on or between those dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. The Sun in Gemini is the complete identification of the Ego-Self with the mind and the intellect – a recipe for self-destruction.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is currently transiting Gemini (through June 20th).   We’re likely to be active and curious during this forecast period, but caution is needed in order not to engage in purely mental or intellectual pursuits. Get into your body, and incorporate some physical activity to counter-balance living solely in your head.

On May 29th we’ll experience a Full Moon in Fire-sign Sagittarius, Gemini’s polar opposite on the wheel of the Zodiac. This lunation reminds us to look beyond our normal routines and our usual thoughts, actions and environments. This is a Full Moon of growth and expansion so pay special attention to what you want to promote and increase at this time. Caution is needed not to blow things out of proportion, especially since mental activity will be running high.

Mercury enters Gemini on May 29th (one of its home signs). Mercury’s transit of Gemini is beneficial since this is a comfortable and harmonious placement. We may be quite enthusiastic about learning and sharing with others – again, moderation is required to avoid overdoing a good thing.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes extreme violence – usually intellectual but including emotional and even physical manifestation, and catastrophes of all kinds.

Let’s focus on what actually is positive in this card – the way of liberation through abandonment of and separation from those things which are toxic and no longer serve our highest good.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors for this week include olive, russet, yellow, orange and amber, along with gold.

Mercury and gold are this week’s metals, and while Mercury serves as a symbol of change and adaptability, gold can be worn to remind us of the Sun’s power – to burn and scorch, but also to bring life-giving heat and energy.

Diamond, ruby, jade, topaz, amber and agate worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will also serve to remind us that much like a trip to the dentist, the anticipation of pain is often worse than the pain itself. And, we usually feel much better once it’s over.

Scent your home, bath and body with marigold, heliotrope, juniper, orange, acacia, cedar, cinnamon, clove, and frankincense for powerful “solar” energy this week – and use discretion in wielding that energy.

Foods prepared with sunflower seeds, oranges, or seasoned with galangal, cinnamon, clove, parsley and dill; or beverages made with hops (beer) or juniper (gin) – and trust me, this week some alcohol (in moderation) – may serve truly medicinal purposes  – will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Four of Wands

Weekly Tarotcast™: 5-22-18 through 5-29-18

 Four of Wands

fourofwands

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Four of Wands. We’ll be focused on committed relationships of all kinds, from business partnerships to friendships and marriage.  Our commitment to others, their commitment to us and our shared endeavors, are all positively influenced by this card’s energy.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life this card represents the formula 4: sephiroth or sphere 4, of Chesed (meaning Mercy – the sphere of Jupiter and materialization) in the suit of Wands (Atziluth, the archetypal world, the element of Fire – our will) plus Venus in Aries (more on that in a moment) equaling Completion.

The Fours of the Minor Arcana are where the form and structure of their respective elements and suits are stabilized and nurtured for further development and manifestation. They bring unification, domestication, reflection, or gestation in events and situations.

Astrologically, this card represents Venus in Aries and rules from 20 to 30 degrees Aries, or April 11th through April 20th so if your birthday falls on or between these dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us.  This is nicely tuned energy, reminding us that the Aries drive toward achievement and success is best accomplished with the tact, gentleness and diplomacy of Venus.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is transiting Air-sign Gemini. Venus is transiting Water-sign Cancer (through June 13th). We seek familiarity, safety and security in our romantic relationships and may find ourselves feeling especially affectionate and sentimental.

Chiron – an asteroid with an erratic orbit, known as the Wounded Healer in astrology, entered Aries in April of this year and completes a long transit of that sign in 2027. This tremendously transformative energy is a great complement to the energy of this forecast period – Aries the Healed Warrior can bring strength, resolve and gentle understanding into his or her own life and into the world.

The completion of a strong and healthy foundation on which to build is offered to us with this week’s energy. Lastly, the Full Moon in Aries fellow Fire-sign Sagittarius on May 29th reminds us to look beyond our normal routines and our usual thoughts, actions and environments. This is a Full Moon of growth and expansion so pay special attention to what you want to promote and increase at this time.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes overestimating ourselves or our abilities, senseless and frantic activity, egotistical self-indulgence and vanity.

Let’s focus on the inner fulfillment, harmonious partnership and aspiration to spiritual ideals that this card can bring.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include Venus’ emerald green, spring green, sky blue and bright rose pink along with Aries’ scarlet red.

Emerald, opal, jade, sapphire, lapis lazuli (for Venus) as well as ruby, bloodstone, diamond, garnet (for Aries) will both energize us and keep us attentive to the feelings and needs of others.

Copper and iron are this week’s metals.  Choose copper for its healing and balancing properties. Iron isn’t great for wearing, but in combination with copper (if the copper is copper sulfate), the two create sparks – like fireworks!

Scent your home, bath and body with wild rose, hibiscus, bergamot, plumeria, violet and magnolia as well apple, vanilla and strawberry to balance drive and strength with fairness this week.

Foods prepared with apple, vanilla and strawberry as well as everyone’s favorite thistle – the artichoke – will provide the same beneficial effects.

Your Weekly Tarotcast™: Eight of Cups

Weekly Tarotcast™: 5-15-18 through 5-22-18

 Eight of Cups

EightofCups

The weekly Tarotcast card is the Eight of Cups.  This is not the cheeriest of the cup cards, but does indicate leaving the past behind and walking away from situations and relationships we’ve outgrown, been disappointed with, or that have simply reached their natural conclusion.  While those actions might be painful, they are often necessary for our further development and can be viewed as positive – or at least a move in a more positive direction.

On the kabalistic Tree of Life, this card represents the formula 8: sephiroth or sphere 8, Hod (meaning Splendor – which deals with illusions, imbalance and weakness of the Yang or masculine energy) in the suit of Cups (Briah – the Creative world, the element of Water, our emotions) plus Saturn in Pisces (more on that in a moment) equaling Indolence.

The Eights of the Minor Arcana evaluate, organize, reason and communicate for their respective suits and elements. Their energy may lack harmony, but they can restore symmetry and balance. The eights bring justice, karmic balancing or rebalancing, order and structure along with the limitations and boundaries of those states.

Astrologically, this card represents Saturn in Pisces and rules from 0 to 10 degrees Pisces, or February 19th through February 28th so if your birthday falls on or between those dates, you’ll be feeling this week’s energy even more than the rest of us. Saturn’s heavy-handed, hard-nosed energy in a delicate water sign like Pisces leaves the Fish without much mojo, or the strength to stand up and fight.  And indolence means inclined to be lazy or to resist action.

In real-time astrology, the Sun is transiting Earth-sign Taurus. The May 15h New Moon in Taurus finds us ready and able to take charge, assume a leadership role and make strides in providing for our future security. This energy can provide a welcome balance during this forecast period by enhancing our feelings of self-worth. It is beneficial for reconnecting with our physical bodies, our senses and the natural world.

May 15h also begins Uranus’ transit of Taurus (through 2026). Although seemingly contrary to Taurus’ nature, with this aspect we find that change is easier, and we’re inclined to shake things up. Combined with this week’s card, some new and novel approaches may be just what we need.

Saturn continues its retrograde transit of Earth-sign Capricorn (the sign it rules). No one likes to backtrack, but sometimes clearing up old or unfinished business is the only way to truly move forward. Rather than complain, accept slow progress versus no progress.

On May 19th Venus enters Pisces’ fellow Water-sign, Cancer (through June 13th).  We seek familiarity, safety and security in our romantic relationships and may find ourselves feeling especially affectionate and sentimental. Care is necessary though, as sentimentality can turn to melancholy and self-indulgence. We are also more self-protective and may react – or overreact if we feel threatened.

Misuse, darkening or the shadow energy of this card includes depression, self-pity, apathy, and at its very worst – suicidal thoughts or tendencies.

Let’s focus on the positive or light side of this energy – and there is some – the wisdom to let go of what no longer serves our highest good. Often relinquishing control is our only good option, and finding the reserves of strength we need to take a fresh look, a breath of fresh air, or a drink of fresh water changes things enough for us to regain a positive outlook.

A little home alchemy:  Power colors this week include indigo, black and blue (for Saturn), violet and white for Pisces.

Sapphire, emerald and amethyst (for Pisces) and onyx, obsidian, jet and garnet (for Saturn) worn as jewelry or carried as power stones will also help us keep our hearts open and our heads held high. They can also help us balance and recharge our batteries.

Lead (Saturn) and tin (Pisces) are this week’s metals – neither is good for wearing, but for reminding us that flexibility can serve us best when we’re under the weight of change.

Scent your home, bath and body with heliotrope, carnation, opium poppy (the scent, not the drug), valerian, comfrey, musk and patchouli – they will soothe and heal us this week. Saturn’s influence in Pisces may not be the most comfortable energy – still, let’s make the most of the opportunities it presents.

Foods prepared with thyme or teas brewed from comfrey or valerian will provide the same beneficial effects.
